Re: I want to ask her out but...
Normally I'd say that you guys ARE just friends... but I dunno. Telling a parent you aren't involved with somebody is different from saying it to, for instance, a friend.
Key Questions:
1) Does she generally prefer to keep her parents from knowing too much about her personal life?
2) How does she act around your peers? That's the real key.

Re: I want to ask her out but...
Cuddle a bit, while you talk for hours, then kiss her.
Failing that just ask her out.

just do it. better to take a chance than wonder "what if" the rest of your life.

Re: I want to ask her out but...
What you gotta do is make sure there's some kind of fall back to asking her out.
The easiest way is by just being honest.
Tell her you like her in the way of a close friend and would like to see if it could be more than that and see what she says to it.
Most importantly, make sure you drop in the line "...but only if it wouldn't affect what we have now because your friendship means a LOT to me."
There are risks involved in taking a friendship to a higher level and she will more than likely know that so let her know that even if it doesn't work out as well as you'd hope, you'll always be her friend.
Hope that helps you pal.
