Wedding Rings...
I just thought I'd get a discussion going on weddings rings. Just make sure to post your sex along with your post. What do you think of them? How expensive should they be? Etc?
I personally don't believe in expensive wedding rings. I know a guy who got a 17,000 ring for his fiancee and because of it they have to postpone their (also ridiculously priced) wedding, house, car, etc for a couple of years for him to pay off the ring. He's putting unecessary strains on the relationship because he thinks she'll love him more for it.
I don't think the ring should be above, say, 3000 dollars unless the man is a great provider (300k+). Really, the ring symbolizes something great, a union, but it doesn't do a better job if it's a 700 carat 20 million dollar ring. Save the money and buy your wife a nice car if you want, or put the money towards a house, or a trip to hawaii. Or put it towards your wedding, americans on average spend 28,000 on a wedding. No way in hell I'm paying that much.
This culture pisses me off, discuss.

Re: Wedding Rings...
(male) As cheap as possible, if at all. Personally i dislike gold but it's traditional.
Cheap because a wedding ring is worn 24/7 and gets lost, worn, damaged.
Or buy one expensive one for special occasions and a cheap (under $150) for every day.

Re: Wedding Rings...
I don't know about price, but any wedding ring I'm giving is going to be half white and half yellow gold, and very post-modern. They will be good quality, but not too expensive.

Re: Wedding Rings...
my wedding ring (http://tinyurl.com/qja26) bought 16 years ago in Germany. Cost 150 DM for the pair (that's about $100 or fifty quid). Very low carat (.333) so quite hard wearing.
Wife lost hers years ago and i bought her a new one a couple of years back, which cost me $140.

Re: Wedding Rings...
I don't care about mine. I just want a straight gold coloured band. I don't care what carat it is, as long as it slips off easily...for...you know.

A job that nets 100k, - 40% income tax, -20% RRSP, +25% bonus, and let's add another 5% for no reason.
Your pay is 70k after taxes and shit. /12 is 5.8 grand. 3 months is 17.5.
You're going to spend 17.5 THOUSAND dollars on a ring that's probably going to get lost within the first 2 years?

Re: Wedding Rings...
My wife's ring was 5,500 total and I thought that was reasonable. It is so easy to run up a tab on a girl's ring. But mine was less than 600 so that made up for the difference.

my ring now is like that. not a wedding ring, but yeah quite a cool design. i love the multi-tonal thing.
honestly, yeah i love to look at big sparkly gorgeous expensive wedding rings, but in the end it wouldn't really matter to me. if someone cares about me enough to marry me, the ring is just sort of the proof i suppose you could say. :P i'd rather it be unique and pretty in an interesting way than only noticeable for the fact that i can't lift my hand under the weight.

Re: Wedding Rings...
My dad bought my mum a £55ish 9 carat ring
well it was the engagement ring but still
it has a tiny diamond you practically need a magnifying glass to see it.
He said he would get a more expenisive one later but she never let him and never takes the ring off as well as her wedding ring
As for me (female) I'd want a white gold ring, a pretty one. Not too expensive, definitely under £1,000 unless we were ridiculously rich

That's like my friend's Mum. You don't even see the diamond at first glance!
I like the traditional, plain gold, solitaire rings. And being as my fingers are spindly, anything above .5 carat looks daft, the ring I have is actually half a size too big because making it any smaller would ruin the diamond setting and it just wouldn't work.
I've only ever seen a big diamond look good on one person, my God Mother. The diamond is worth £10K, but it's very tasteful. Her husband was a diamond jeweller so it figures.

Re: Wedding Rings...
I gave my ladyfriend an engagement string.
I think you can figure out the budget for something like that on your own.
