single-ness. so bad after all?
i'm single. i am fine with this. i don't have much time for a boyfriend, so i'm not going to go out looking for someone. i'm not saying that i don't want a relationship, but it's not something i feel i desperately need.
my friends, on the other hand, feel that they are not complete and cannot be happy about their lives if they are not in a relationship.
my question to the people of totse: is being single so bad after all? does one have to be in a relationship to be happy?

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
You've got to think you're actually an interesting person to want to spend time with yourself?
Now...sit on my lap & tell me all about it.

meh, it's alright. to be honest I'd prefer to be with someone, but I'd prefer to be by myself than with someone lame. so yeah, it's all good.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
Being in a relationship is overrated I think. It's totally awesome with the right person, but if not, I'd really rather not.
Also, being single, you can do what, how, who, and when you want!!

I'd be happy with a relationship, but i'm also happy being single and not forcing a relationship on myself.

yeah, being with someone is nice. but i still think that being in a 'serious relationship' at 18 is a waste of time.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
I was single until from January to July this year, and I had an awesome time. I wasn't looking for a boyfriend at all, it just kind of happened. But that's okay because I love him.
So yeah, being single rocks, although I'm having even more fun with my boyfriend now than I was when I was single. It all just depends on your state of mind.
It does bug me how alot of people feel that they need to be in a relationship though.

I find it quite sad actually, people basing their happiness around another person, instead of concentrating on finding their own.

Maybe they think that life is too happy not to share it with another person.

That doesn't make sense. There's no such thing as too happy, in my opinion.

Your opinion is super, but I think you misunderstood.
I meant; Maybe they would like a companion to be able to externalise the happiness they find.

I agree, I enjoy being with people, and sharing life with them, but what I meant is that a fair number of people i've met base their happiness ON the other person- say if the one person is away, the other is.....lost without them. I can't really understand that.

Yeah, but humans are always up and down like that, it's in our nature. You probably see a lot of people that are really happy with their partners too.
You'll eventually be just as happy as if you were single, but you might have greater peace of mind.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
When you meet someone, and you give the vibe that Yes, I really do want a relationship, and that's that.
It pushes the other away. I like it when things progress naturally, and some effort on each's behalf.

It's called a weakness in character. Some people feel the need to latch onto other people to validate themselves.
If you nither have nor want a boyfriend, then you either are fat and you smell. Or, you dont feel weak enough to latch onto someone.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
Being single really isn't so bad.
Sometimes it seems like relationships before your 20's are just kinda pointless...
Without having to deal with a relationship, you can still love someone, spend all your time with them, and the jazz that comes with a relationship, except it doesn't have a label that makes things really stressful.
It's really a hard concept to get across, I know, but maybe one day I will start a thread to try to explain it in detail.

Think of it this way...
When single you can fuck random bitches and get away with it, no conscience or any of that hiding.
But in a relationship, your the fucked bitch.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
being single is alright, there's nothing wrong with it. it's the being single after a long-term or just really intense relationship that i think would be hard, because you're used to that commitment and feeling and safety and all that. or maybe that hopeless kind of single feeling, where it feels like there will NEVER be somebody...we all know there will be, but that doesn't make you feel any better at the time.
single-ness can rock if you're in the right headspace for it.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
Your friends are more insecure than you, and feel that they need someone, rather than standing on their own for any time.
That said, it's nice being in a relationship for any number of reasons, I prefer it. It's not all perfect (duh) but I wouldn't change it. Depends what you get/want out of a relationship.

That's very much how I am...but one of the attributes of my happiness is patience, so it's not really something I fret over. I do my part to be happy, and if someone comes along who wants a piece of me and my joy, they're welcome to feast.

I wih I could be single for about 5 days out of the month. Not to cheat but just to be myself. Completely and utterly my old self. Get high, play video games, eat whatever, watch whatever, and sleep whenever.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
I don't get what's so bad about being single.
The only reason you should be sad after a break up is because you miss the person, not because you need them and they're not there. I think I actually function better when I'm single, and generally I don't even like relationships.

Re: single-ness. so bad after all?
idk how i feel about this. i really don't want to be single. i am 18 and have been in a relationship for a year and a half. this is my first actual relationship and it is (was?) great. i think the reason i don't want to be single is that 1) my boyfriend is my best friend and 2) before i met him i was in a really bad place and unhappy so i think i am associating unhappiness with being single. it sucks when you know what is wrong with you but you dont know what to do about it. so meh. i am contributing nothing here, but at least i am venting.
