bar scene
So, the other day I took a drive to Toronto and bought a fake ID. I've tried it out a couple of times and it works in the liquor stores here where I live. So, I figure I'll give the bar scene a try.
Now, I've never really been in a bar before, so I'm not sure if there is like a proper bar etiquette to go by, though obviously I know how to properly conduct myself. What other reasons do people have for going to bars other than to get drunk and find some action? Or is it just going to be a thousand other guys in my shoes looking for the same thing?
I'll definitely be going to college bars, one of my friends is convinced we can pick up girls in a gay bar although I'm a little iffy on that idea.
Any words of advice?

Re: bar scene
i've never been to a gay bar, but that makes sense, since the girl wouldn't be expecting it. she probably went there with her gay friend and is kind of missing the attention from guys, and then you step in....sounds like a good idea to me.

Say you came in with a gay friend who was scared about being alone, but he has no disappeared.
She will think you're sensitive

Re: bar scene
You'd be surprised about gay bars. There was one in Iowa City me and my crew used to hit - their drinks were absurdly cheap, so about half the folks in there were straight.
And bar ettiquette is pretty basic.
- If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to drink in a bar. Period.
- Don't get all pissy when people ask to see your ID. It will only make you look juvenile.
- Don't hit on the wait staff. Every other dude in the bar hits on the waitress, and you will only get yourself categorized as a member of the herd.
- Don't ash in the beer cooler. I speak from experience - the bouncer will literally pick you up and heave you out of the bar.

Re: bar scene
Don't try to pick up girls in a gay bar.
It is the most irritating thing in the world.
See, 99% of the time, a straight girl is in a gay bar because she wants to have a nice night out, have a dance, have a drink, have a laugh, without getting hit on constantly.
I would have thought that was obvious. But it happens with depressing frequency.

Re: bar scene
I'm a little worried about my fake being taken away, that's why I'm only going to sketchy bars.
I live in NY, but the fake is a Colorado license ID and it also came with a state college student ID, all for $50. Like I said, it works in the liquor stores and wherever I go to buy beer, but fake IDs usually have a certain feel to them, and this kinda does.
I'm not going to be doing anything outrageous to get me kicked out, I just need to get laid.

Re: bar scene
If you go with a group of older people, you won't be ID'd unless you look 12. There's a really good bar I go in downtown Toronto, tell me if you want details.

Re: bar scene
Be fucking careful man.
Although most liquor stores will sell to anybody with a piece of cardboard with a picture slapped on it, the bar scene is much more difficult to traverse. Most bartenders/bouncers/etc are trained to spot a fake.

Re: bar scene
Gay bars, or straight bars that are frequented by gays and develop a reputations as a gay bar usually have outrageously cheap drinks.
The one I frequent, which is opposite the Alt. club I go to has "Cheapest Pots in Melbourne" @ $1.50 a pot. Fucking insane.
So all the straight kids go there, get smashed, then go to what ever club they normally go to. So picking up girls at a gay bar, or a straight bar perceived as a gay club, isn't as strange as it sounds.
*edit* I forgot to mention, at these places, it's MUCH more important to go with trustowrthy mates. Don't EVER leave your drink unattended. Even if you get drinks from the bar, kind of be wary.
A friend of mine went out with his cousin, she's hot AS. Well any way, she goes to the bar to buy a drink for him. She gives it to him. He drinks it. He wakes up 3+ hours later in an alley nearby.
This dude was a raver as well, and said it DEFFINATLY wasn't GBH. So...yeah, be careful. Regulars at those bars might have 'deals' with the barstaff.

I believe the name of the street was Yonge street or Younge street, something like that. It seemed like a really happening part of town, it was fun. The place was like in a basement, we walked downstairs and some creepy looking indian guy took my picture and within a half hour I had my ID.

What happened to his cousin he was with? Was anything missing from his pocket's/wallet when he came to? Was he violated? I'm assuming the target was actually his female cousin, so they probably just threw him in the alley when he passed out and it wasn't who they wanted but I still want more details.

I've used it 3 times now; twice for buying alcohol, once for clubbing.
The bouncer at the door did not take it, but no problems buying alcohol.
I'm going back up to Canada again this weekend with some friends, but I won't even need a fake there.
Fucking U.S.

Re: bar scene
Sorry for the questions, but could you by any chance scan it and take out your picture and whatever else? I just want to see how they look compared to a real id..I spent 120$ on a piece of shit id so I do not want to make the same mistake..

Re: bar scene
Bartenders are trained to spot fake IDs, but will probably not take it away from you if they do--that makes more paperwork for them, as they are legally obligated to report it to the police. Don't be surprised if you get turned away a few times, though. A few pointers:
Don't have other cards in your wallet with your real name on them. Bartenders will sometimes ask for a second form of ID to confirm, and are trained to watch when you first pull your wallet out. If they see debit cards, student ID, etc. and you say "uh, I don't have anything else" when asked, they'll know you're faking.
Don't be a jackass or seem nervous. If you're acting like a kid and the bartender has any suspicion, he'll kick you.
Go with older people who will vouch for you. If you're with a party of 21+ and seem a little off, you might still slide.
If the bartender asks "are you 21?" say "Yes, I am." Don't evade the question, as they're trained to spot this. The government sting operations that come in to catch bartenders serving to underage drinkers are not allowed to lie, and so will try to deflect the "Are you over 21" question with humor, sarcasm, or other tricks. Don't try it, or you'll look suspicious.
