I agree with lauren, this sounds like textbook narcissism. But at the same time it could just be a random kink that happens to also be symptomatic of a personality disorder.

I'd hope that it's not actual narcissism. Chances are it's not, here's more about it anyway.

People aren't *born narcissists*, the way someone with bipolar disorder is. The condition is caused by a person's reaction to some deeply emotionally traumatic event or series of events in childhood.

Instead of reacting healthily, which is to say going through some kind of healing process, some children react by numbing themselves to their real emotions. They withdraw from the parts of themselves that have feelings, because feelings can't be controlled and have the power to cause pain. So instead their imagination takes over, distorting their perception of reality into a narrative which is pleasing for them. Their world becomes like a two dimensional play, with the narcissist as a one man director/audience.

It's a peculiar thing. On the one hand, you've got these people literally living in a slightly different world from the rest of us. Same planet, but different world. And on the other hand, narcissists are *extremely* similar to psychopaths/sociopaths. What largely characterises each is the fact that they experience NO genuine emotion. The difference is that in the psychopaths case there's actually nothing going on in their body when they're in situations that should cause some kind of emotion. All emotions are physiological reactions, they all involve the literal motion of our body when they affect us. For psychopaths, the body just doesn't do that. They've done brain recording even, there's just no activity there. Now with narcissists, they actually do have physical emotional reactions in their body, the emotion's actually there - they just don't let themselves feel it.

That's why I said it's a shit disorder. People are literally trapped inside them*selves*. It's fucked up man. Not being able to experience any real emotion - to me it sounds like living hell. Or limbo maybe. And sadly, it's nearly impossible to ever "cure" someone of narcissism. At best the narcissist can learn to imagine things from other people's point of view, and try to be as objective about things as possible. But it seems like a reversal of the disorder is extremely uncommon. I bet that'll change if they legalise drugs, fukn gubmint.
