Default update on the other thread. how do i respond?

update on the "i am so dumb" thread

he replied to my message with the following:

"goin real good. co-terming, TAing, living in rains (cooking = way better than dining plan) and taking 2 classes how's life? how was summer?"

(co-terming means getting your master's degree by taking one extra year after college instead of applying to grad school all over again. and TAing is being a teacher's assistant. and rains is a housing area for grad students.)

i feel as though this is a neutral response - could be interested, could just be polite. any kind of ideas what i should say/do?

he lived in the same dorm as me last year. i was wildly attracted to him. we danced at one party, and then another time watched a dvd together alone, but there was a lot of physical flirting so i don't remember the movie. he's extremely tall and cute, but doesn't seem to realize it.

ideas? input? ANYTHING.....and yes i realize this seems frivolous.

Sounds like he's building comfort. This boy has little or no game.

He's giving you topics of conversation to work with...take the bait. A nuetral response would have just been "Things are good."

I am in a good mood so I will actually contribute...I think.

Sounds like he has nothing to talk about. Try to give him something to work with. I didn't see the other thread so I might be missing something.

Well "mature guys" aka "nice guys" aka "chumps" end up in the friend zone.

right. so, i kind of want to jump all ahead of myself and ask if he wants to get together. that might be too forward and impatient, though. i don't like playing games, but if i seem too eager it might be bad, right?

well, not with me. i don't think he could end up in the friend zone with me if he tried. so please leave your theories about having game and getting girls at home, because they're useless with me.

You think that consciously. If he never escalates, how will it go anywhere? Please don't pretend to be different from the other 3.5 billion females out there.

Wow, you're smart. You're the one making these stupid threads repeating you're dumb. I'm not the one acting 15 years old here. I have a 3rd person view of your whole situation and this is how I see it. Deal with it.

Talk to him. He wants and update on your life. How you've been and how you are now. Let him know, but don't write him a book.

If you're impatient, ask him if he'd like to do something. Nothing eager about it. You already know each other, so it's not like you're pushing yourself on a stranger.

Since you guys are already texting each other, why dont you ask him to hang out with you? If he says yes then thats half the battle

If you seem eager, it might throw him into thinking 'clingy'...but being forward doesn't necessarily mean eager. Asking him to join you for a cup of joe, or lunch, or dinner, etc doesn't seem impatient, but actually something most guys would quite enjoy (it sucks having to always be the one to initiate get togethers).

It's just the rough age when a good lot of boys and girls turn into men and women. You sound like a boy who deals with girls.

I'm very picky with my women, but I'm not going to go into details about things you don't need to know about. Anyways..

What Hexadecimal said previously is kind of right. I don't know the extent of your interaction(s) last year (or whenever it was). But just seeing him and having a chat wouldn't seem eager or clingy.

Edit: Possibly try hinting and if he doesn't get it, just go ahead of ask outright.

We could all answer this alot better if we knew what you looked like. If you're attractive, then this guy is intersted and wants to get together, if you're not then he's just being polite.

thanks euda and hexadecimal. so how's this for a reply (feel free to edit and modify):

life's good. living in mirlo (down the hall from brodie) with someone random. i spent the summer in new york. so what does your weekend schedule look like?

it skims the surface, but i'm trying to do that because if i get too deep we get into dangerous teritorry with the eating disorder treatment facility and the limited course load due to medical condition. :S

The "so" seems out of place. As if the rest was just filler to get to the question.

Edit: Skimming is fine, it's not exactly a quick msg topic.

I have that same problem with letting people know I'm an alcoholic and drug addict. I find it actually works out better when I'm up front about it and let them know I've gone through treatment, etc, and done a complete 180.

I wouldn't rush in to suggesting doing something quite so quickly, no harm in a bit of banter in the form of a few messages before you suggest it.

i just don't want to lose steam. i don't think either of us use facebook that often and it might get boring to just keep exchanging mundane messages when we both kinda know each other.

p.s. i still haven't sent a message back.

Why not send it?

The longer you wait, the more likely it is that he will have a full weekend.

Edit: Thank you. You have pretty eyes, but they could be more colourful.
