What girls really want~
So this guy raised a good point:

What DO girls really want? Well ladies?
How do you want to be approached by a guy?
How do you prefer flirting to go?
How often do you like to see him per week?
Which position is your favorite?
Who should approach who?
Should he make eye contact/laugh at your jokes/talk to you freely?
What sort of things should he definatly never talk about?
What should he talk about more?
Other opinions?
Sure, everyone will have diffrent answers and diffrent prefrences, but maybe this will be a general idea.

I'll edit and add if you think of other relevant questions.

Re: What girls really want~
My answers:
1: I prefer if he makes the moves to approach me, prefrebly in a joking relaxing manner.
2: Let him flirt, let me flirt back, as long as he's putting in noticible effort himself
3: ~3x a week. Enough to fill my free evenings, and leave for my own social life aswell.
4: Missionary, and doggie >.> *willing to expiriment
5: He should approach me, save me some work! Though I've been know to approach guys I thought were cute with small conversation.
6: Definatly to all 3. Especially since my jokes are lame half the time, it's reassuring.
7: Never talk about? most bodily functions, ex girlfriends, his porn collection, unless we've been together for a while.
8: More? be sweet, sensitive (typical) how he's feeling, communication is key. /cliche`
Other opinions? eh I'm spent.

Thanks for this topic, i'm sure it will help quite a lot of guys. I haven't read over your second post yet, but i'm sure it will help me with my out look.
I know each gal will have different answers but it will give an overall view on generalised preference... Thanks again..

1. Not sure. I don't like it when guys "hit on" me...
2. I like it when a guy makes me laugh.
3. Everyday (my boyfriend)
4. Hard to say, they're all pretty fun! I can only come if I'm on top, but I think I still like it better when he's on top.
5. Again, I'm not sure. I've never really been in a situation where a guy "approached" me, things just seem to happen naturally.
6. Of course.
7. How he finds other girls attractive. I mean, obviously my boyfriend will find girls other than me hot, but I don't want to hear about it.
8. His feelings. Cliched, I know, but my boy has a tendency to hold it all in and then blowing up over the dumbest thing.
9. Guys, make your girl feel safe and beautiful. It feels so good to be wrapped in your big, strong, manly arms. And be patient with her when she wants to talk about girly stuff.

I've been told that I have been too nice to a specific person in order to get into their pants... That annoyed me all too much, considering i've never had a motive like that.

Oh come the fuck on...you're expecting to gain insight into wants and desires by asking questions about methodology? It's what these methods attempt to accomplish that leads to the truth of what people seek in partners.

Re: What girls really want~
1.How do you want to be approached by a guy?
If I'm at the bar, an original pickup line that makes me laugh goes a long way. Something like "this is a life or death question... do you floss before or after you brush?" is always good. Otherwise, it's situation-relative.
2. How do you prefer flirting to go?
I'm not a big flirter. Usually I just make fun of the guy subtly. If he does it back, awesome. If he doesn't, I've either offended or scared him. Meaning he's a lame fucker.
3. How often do you like to see him per week?
As much as is appropriate.
4. Which position is your favorite?
Not sure.
5. Who should approach who?
I'm not much of an approacher. And I look really unapproachable apparently. So when a guy approaches me and says something interesting, that's like, the entire battle right there, won.
6. Should he make eye contact/laugh at your jokes/talk to you freely?
I hate insecurity, and I'll talk about the most random weird shit, even to strangers. So yes, he needs to be comfortable expressing himself.
7. What sort of things should he definatly never talk about?
I'm ok with hearing about ex's. But as soon as I hear intimate sex-life details, or if the word "awesome" or anything similar is said in reference to an ex, I spaz. All other subjects are open to discussion.
8. What should he talk about more?
How wickedly fantastic I am? Heh, no. Umm... I dunno.
9. Other opinions?
I just want someone to love me the way I need someone to love me.

1. I dont like being "hit on", i like to get to know the person before any romance is involved.
2. Like Sick_Boy said, i think its best when he makes you laugh... funny guys are awesome
3. 2-3 times a week.
4. Im not very experienced so not known at this moment.
5. I would prefer him to approach me.
6. Yes.
7. ex girlfriends, girls he finds attractive.. not because theres something wrong with bringing up those topics just go talk to your friends about it, not me.
8. his freakin feelings...GOD DAMN. Trying to get a balkan guy to tell you his feelings is really hard
9. Be funny, Make her laugh... nice, interesting down to earth girls enjoy that.
I see alot of posts in S&A about guys not being able to find a nice girl, dont lose hope.. You just have to fish through all the crazy bitches to find the good one.

Re: What girls really want~
How do you want to be approached by a guy?
* Friendly conversation, don't be obvious, i hate it when a guy looks at you across the room and like holds eye contact while walking towards you like he's got some kind of intense purpose, just relax and be "cool"
How do you prefer flirting to go?
* Light, i dont like to be hit on, but i love subtle word play, and slight touching is nice, but only like touching my arm or hand or something.
How often do you like to see him per week?
*Boyfriend? 6 times a week. Casual dating guy? twice a week
Which position is your favorite?
* Missionary, but i also love to be ontop, and doggie style can be fun, so really anything, i just like it when he takes control, when he has confidence in his actions.
Who should approach who?
* Guy should approach me, he needs to have balls
Should he make eye contact/laugh at your jokes/talk to you freely?
* Yes, he should make normal eye contact, not like a crazy russian or anything, and yes laugh at my bad jokes otherwise i'll just feel awk, and yes talk to me freely.
What sort of things should he definatly never talk about?
* Other girls, fantasies about my friends, anything about my physical appearance that isnt a compliment, gross fetishes that he has, ie fucking animals or shiting on people etc.
What should he talk about more?
* How pretty i am, tell me i'm beautiful in one way or another everyday, man that sounds insecure. He shoudl talk about his fantasies, those that are normal ish, he should tell me what he wants to do to me sexualy.
Other opinions?
* Some girls like to be controlled, so be strong, i personally am attracted to cocky guys but thats just me. Also girls like to feel protected, so hold her in yoru arms, put an arm around her, dont start fights with other guys or anything but make her feel safe.
Dont backdown when a girl pushes you away, you can usually get away with being more forceful, just dont take it too far, ex. my first boyfriend would try to put his arm around me at the mall etc and i would push him away but it was only because i felt insecure, if he had just tried harder i would have been very happy.

There's a reason getting to know someone before you date them is usually a good idea: You get to find a bit out about their portrayed persona, which usually reveals who they are on the inside, which lets you know, in a general sense, what of their soul they're prepared to share with ya.
Problem personas:
Cocky outside = Insecure inside
Jokester = Poor ability to relate
Silent type = over-confident
Braggart = REALLY insecure
Mr. Smiles = Depressed
Machismo = Gay
Essentially, whatever about a person stands out most at first is usually what they lack the most, and what their primary focus of thought is built around.
The cocky guy will not be able to make you feel truly secure, because he himself is sharing his insecurities - typically, they'll not pay much attention to who you are, but more your image because hot babe = security in their warped mind.
The jokester will make you laugh, but he won't be able to share who he is with you because he's not even sure who he is yet. Problems will arise because he's trying to get to know you, but doesn't realize his own inability to show his depth is holding the relationship back.
The silent type feels they are so strong that dealing with the problems of the world is beneath them - they fail to relate to any issues that arise on your end because they don't see anything as a problem worth involving themselves in. Eventually, this leads to an extremely one-sided relationship, even moreso than the last problem persona I'll talk about.
Braggarts, hehe, this is a fun one. Not only is this guy cocky, but he does something right one time and he'll never let it go; it's because deep down he believes he's failed at just about everything, and after the core beliefs are processed through his mental filter, he comes out as an inflated ego with nothing to really back it up. This leaves anyone that gets to know who they really are completely disastisfied with the truth: he's nothing but an over-sized baby.
Mr. Smiles - The suicidal guy who acts normal and content (this is by far the WORST of the problem personas for men or women to be involved with); rather than talking to people about his depression and finding help, he covers it with smiles and fake cheer, the relationship with Mr. Smiles usually goes pretty well until he can't hold up his mask any longer and he goes fucking loopy on ya - at this point, the realization that who you've come to like doesn't even exist begins to damage even you're own self-worth. This persona, if unchecked for long enough, is prone to breeding criminals of serial degrees, possibly bringing physical safety risks into the relationship.
And then there's Machismo...the guy who has to be the ultimate guy...because he's gay. He'll spend a good deal of time persuing nothing but tail because if he fucks a lot of women, he can't be gay...well, this sucks, because he'll relate to ya well, be there and everything, and such, PLUS he'll be a man's man...quite literally, hah.
Problem personas are the insane minds' perception of healthy people in healthy relationships and what the individual 'must' be in order to find happiness/love in life. They are invariably defense mechanisms to hide massive insecurities that prevent love from fostering becuase they are the cruelest form of deception - self deception; self deception hampers intra and interpersonal relations. They are based on facets of a healthy person, however.
Let's take a look at a healthy guy from core to surface:
At the core - he generally has the belief that he's a strong individual, but not strong enough to go through life of his own power.
Outside of that is usually a set of personal boundaries relating to social interaction, work, morals, and identity. Along with the boundaries are the base emotions: Glad, mad, sad, and hurt - Glad is the prescribed response emotion to boundaries that are kept well, whereas mad, sad, and hurt are distributed to each and every boundary, and are triggered through separate types of violation. Mad is usually when a joke or playing violates a boundary; sad when the individual violates their own boundaries; and hurt when another violates a boundary not of ignorance, but of knowledge.
From each of these areas of boundary come a set of secondary beliefs which are generally in line with his core belief, and which do not violate his boundary. These typically relate to methodologies of ensuring his boundaries are not crossed, without closing people off from his emotions. For social boundaries - what he considers lying, holding back, how to find love, etc. Work - punctuality, promotion, worthy pay, etc. Morals - how best to carry them out. Identity - What he needs to do to feel like he's him.
From these secondary beliefs come the formation of the thought process, which has the unique ability to modify deeper layers than itself despite being a prior product of these layers. This is the area where problem personas fail: they reside here instead of taking the time necessary to ensure their deeper layers are maintained...they essentially let themselves become nothing more than a product of the very environment they despise. Healthy personas are well aware that there is more than think, feel, and do, and that each of these actions are controlled by your core, boundaries, and beliefs.
And then the surface: ACTIONS! This is why people often say actions speak louder than words. Most of the time people run their physical actions on a different plane than their thoughts and speaking.
When getting to know someone, be wary of problem personas - nobody should always be acting one single way, it shows a one-track mind, which means fucked up beliefs, which mean they have barriers instead of boundaries, which means they have no knowledge of their core belief. Crazy lost mofos are not healthy, nor love capable.
Hope this helps in the future, Dem.

Re: What girls really want~

Well, depends on what "too nice" is, sometimes it can be considered clingy, or weak. If someone's talking trash about your girl, and you stand there saying nothing, it may not be the best respounce, but some girls like very passive aggressive guys.
quote:Originally posted by Hexadecimal:

Go away troll :-P If you read myron's post it was made obvious that some guys have absolutely NO idea how to tell if a female is attracted and are total social retards. Same goes the other way around. Atleast the clueless can see some perspectives.
>>Problem personas:
"Cocky outside = Insecure inside
Jokester = Poor ability to relate
Silent type = over-confident
Braggart = REALLY insecure

You've got it all figured out haven't you? Well, being a psych major actually, and having read psych my whole life.. and well, knowing people :-P I've actually read studies which prove most of that wrong.
Cocky outside means-cocky inside.
Agressive people voilent people and narcissists commonly thought of as insecure actually have very high self confidence and believe they deserve special treatment.
Jokester: Depends, who doesn't like a funny guy? Just because you're not funny doesn't mean people who are have social issues :-P
Silent type: Not neccisarily, but it does range from a narcissistic personality to an extremely shy one.
Bragger: Secure, powerful and knows it, possibly nacissistic (good hint is if he is extremely easily offended while showing the cocky attitude) They're extremely confident.
>Think about it, if you hated yourself, you wouldn't be doing much bragging.
Smiles: Smiling makes you happy, smiling shows uplifted spirits, or attraction. Unless he's popping a few pills, mr. depressed is likely mr. shy guy.
Machismo: I'll give you that one, or just too high maintence.
>
One indicator that someone is intrested in you and/or checking you out is if they mimic your body movements/posture.
You're in a bar, can't tell if he/she is checking you out. Watch him from the corner of your eye, check your watch, see if he does the same. :-P

Either that, or you would have cried rape. I see girls complaining about how guys just "don't know when no means no" and so forth all the time, and now this. I swear, if you're not careful women will turn you sexist.

I am not saying that all, if even most are like this, but you never know who is going to call out and your ass is taking 10 pounds of meat in the jailhouse.

Re: What girls really want~
It's not that it's an accident...it's that some girls are genuinley crazy (as well as guys, yes I know) and think that any unwanted advances on them (whether they make them seem unwanted or not) should be considered a pretense (if not a close call) to rape.
Guys have to watch out for that shit, I am sure that quite a majority of inter-relationship rape is because the girl doesn't properly show what she wants or when...you leave too much of the guessing up to guys.
It's like we are trying to win a game here, and females make up the rules as we go along.

Re: What girls really want~
I'll suspend reality and pretend people care about my opinion in order to respond to this thread.
How do you want to be approached by a guy?
i would like the guy to self-assured and smooth. sitting next to me, smiling and making eye contact for just a second too long, saying hello, giving me a handshake, and telling me his name form a sequence that makes it clear he's approaching me without making me think he's psycho or desperate.
How do you prefer flirting to go?
i would like the flirting to begin with just the verbal. physical flirting should be initiated by me, otherwise i will feel like he is crossing my boundaries. but once i do it, i would like him to do it back. as far as the verbal flirting goes, i'd like him to occasionally divert the conversation to something that insinuates he's thinking about me in an attractive way. he'd be cool, but occasionally lose his cool a bit. if he's too cool, there's no excitement. in terms of physical flirting, tickling is cool. or just being playful.
How often do you like to see him per week?
i think about 2-3 times a week is ideal if we're really into each other but still getting things started.
Which position is your favorite?
we experiment with many positions! and how did we get from flirting to sex so quickly?
Who should approach who?
there's no should. i'll sometimes approach guys, but now that i've lost a lot of confidence in myself, i would like him to approach me. really, though, the approach should be mutual.
Should he make eye contact/laugh at your jokes/talk to you freely?
absolutely!
What sort of things should he definatly never talk about?
other girls he finds hot? i dunno, i think any topic can be made interesting by inserting funny anecdotes and an unusual perspective. i mean, if he's going to talk about basketball, i don't want to hear statistics and rules and players i've never heard of. i want to hear the funny story about when he and john decided to play 2 on 2 with those random kids they met at the park, you know?
What should he talk about more?
whatever's on his mind, and whatever he's interested in.

Re: What girls really want~
ShouldTrip, the thing about psychology in the modern age is that it's all bullshit through and through. It tip toes around the truth of the individual in order to make them feel comfortable enough to continue talking about shit that is barely related to the issue at hand. I'm not here to pad shit.
All problem personas (personality disorders, if you wish to use mind-raper terminology) are based around a core belief that the individual is fundamentally unique from others; the boundaries that surround this have been built into barriers to restrict others from knowing the truth of the individual's fragile nature. The beliefs that stem from these barriers...the beliefs individuals are commonly aware of, are anything but sane; they may allow the individual to operate fairly normally, but they can never seem to have luck in day-to-day relationships because their exterior doesn't match their interior - and the actions derived from this imbalance are usually set down a single course of being rather than an entire array of possibilities to manage the vast number of interactions in life. They have no free will because they choose not to do what it necessary to maintain free will - they are nothing more than a culmination of the environment they are in and the memories they associate with it.
And fuck psychology...Jung was the only one who had a fucking clue as to what he was talking about.

I would have to agree with this one. I am a narcissist to the extreme, and am a cross between these two archetypes, and I must say I really do believe that I am the most intelligent creature born last century. But hey, that's just me, maybe I am so intelligent I can't represent others

Re: What girls really want~
Oh, and I'll state again why psychology is REALLY bullshit: It treats people as emotional, mental, and physical while completely ignoring the root of the mind, heart, and body - the soul. The narcissist believes themselves to be the best because without any attention being paid to their spirit (that'd be their core belief and their boundaries), they pay only attention to building their mind, emotions, and body. They're completely unaware of their own deeply rooted insecurities until their 'superior' being is bested by someone that is 'inferior'.
The insane are not aware that they have an interior. The exterior is their mind, heart, and body. And their portrayal of who they believe themselves to be is their actions. Byss, you may be confident of your thoughts, emotions, body, and even your actions...but I'm willing to bet that when you don't feel like a king, you feel lower than a peasant.
Jung's work is the closest in psychology to the truth because it was based around his own spirituality and his recognition of spirituality's role in his own life and others.

Oddly enough, through your diatribe you had absolutely nothing positive to say for ones behavior.
Problem personas? Define a normal person then. Ahh, but you cannot. Doesnt that negate anything you can say of so-called "problem personas" when you give no scale as to where the line between a true problem and a normal person? Isnt it all personal speculation as to who is a problem and who is not?
Lets take some examples. On each end of human personality types there are extrovert and introvert. Your previous post had much to say about them: they are both "problem personas".
I suppose I shall let the cat out of the bag and put it plainly what your post really says: men are evil.
PS: I wouldnt have said anything regarding your post, if not for people actually taking your "advice" seriously.

Hey, if you read my post, you'd have seen that I gave a very detailed layout of a 'healthy' persona...I don't say normal, because problem personas ARE the norm.
Edit: Also, the 'healthy' persona is neither an extrovert nor introvert - they operate more as a pair of pipes, one upstream, one downstream, both pipes with many branches into various areas of their being with a source at each end - one source, their object of faith...whether it be nirvana, god, Allah, God, Yahweh, whatever...the other source, the outside world.

I also said nothing of the norm. I said a NORMAL person. In fact, the only time your post even has the wrd "normal" in it, is discussing the mask of Mr Smiley.

Ok, seriously, just stop. I'm as religious as the next guy, but this is ridiculous.
So, in order to be a normal person, you have to be religious. This is getting pretty silly.
I am well aware of the process of beliefs turning into actions, but mrals are beliefs too. Last I checked you can still ahve some semblence of morality and still be atheist.

Your ignorance isn't going to get to me; I explained very clearly why I used healthy rather than normal, I'll leave it at that and hope you'll pull your head from your ass long enough to see why.
Edit: Ah fuck it, I'll just tell ya why: There is no such thing as a normal person - the biggest falsehood that problem personas take as truth is that there IS something considered normal...they believe this superficially, but even they know that there is no 'normal'...there's popular and unpopular, and that's about it.

Re: What girls really want~
Problem personas are the insane minds' perception of healthy people in healthy relationships and what the individual 'must' be in order to find happiness/love in life.
Essentially, Mr. Smiles would be the problem persona meant to imitate your healthy method of operating in life. If you're generally glad about your position in life, you will be smiles more than frown...your joy and contentness with life is what Mr. Smiles attempts to copy-cat.
The thing about the Mr. Smiles persona is that he always has a plastic smile on, even when engaging in something he dreads doing...it is his method of blocking people (others and himself) from knowing his interior; and it certainly gaurantees that others won't ever have a heavily accurate view of his exterior self - they won't be able to know him. It's his filter from the outside world to his exterior and interior; rather than taking control of his interior and working from there, thus effectively eliminating the chain of reaction he is driven by, he builds a filter on the outside world, maintaining his own slavery to cause and effect while bullshitting himself into believing he has control.
Every last person alive will partially identify with any problem persona, because they are all imitations of moods that arise in healthy people. The cocky persona attempts to imitate confidence because he has no real confidence; the jokester attempts to imitate lively conversation because he cannot relate himself to others; the silent type imitates wisdom when he is ignorant and agitated; the braggart imitates satisfaction and glory because he fears failure more than anything; Mr. Smiles imitates contentness and joy because he believes he has no purpose yet will make it through life anyhow; Machismo imitates heterosexuality because they fear their own homosexuality.
The healthy persona will sometimes be insecure, sometimes unable to relate, sometimes over-confident, sometimes scared to shit of failure, sometimes depressed, and sometimes experimental...but typically, they have confidence, a sense of humor, wisdom enough to know when speaking isn't helpful and when it is, a knowledge of their successes, contentness with their overall life, and a firm grasp of their sexual identity, along with other traits that I haven't discussed...I only went over 6 problem personas, there are as many problem personas as there are healthy personality traits to imitate.
The problem persona I closest identify with is also Mr. Smiles, but I'm genuinely happy; it used to be a mask, then I tried to kill myself, and on the climb back up from my own hell I was gifted with happiness. I still smile more than not...but when I smile it's because I'm glad, not because I'm trying to hide depression.

Re: What girls really want~
Isnt it all personal speculation as to who is a problem and who is not?
Wanted to address this, because it's actually a very good question as relates to this: I call them problem personas because they are problems for the individuals who employ them.
Every life is a journey; problem personas hold the individual back from being able to grow open in their spirit, mind and heart. They do very well to accomplish the original intent of shutting people out; but we grow tired of loneliness very fast, and seek a better way - the sad fact is that most people will remove one mask and take another in its place...one that they think is better and more capable. This will generally occur to the point the individual realizes how pointless and self-defeating it is to hide.
And something else real quick:
So you went fifty miles around to get to a point ten feet away from you.... good job?
I walk the path I do in order to give to those willing to recieve.
Edit: Also wanted to apologize for calling ya ignorant; if I had thoroughly explained, no misunderstanding would have been capable.

Re: What girls really want~
hex, i get what you're saying. it's pretty clear.
1. what is "normal" is unimportant. it's just the average of everything. what you're concerned with is what is healthy.
2. unhealthy people think normalcy is the same as health.
3. unhealthy people attempt to mimic exterior behavior of their perceptions of "normal" people in order to achieve health, while ignoring the interior.
4. this results in a simplified persona which is easily recognizable for its very simplicity and singularity of purpose - to disguise the person's weaknesses.
not hard to get. am i on track?

It makes sense on paper, but human beings are far more complex than you make them out to be.

Personality is a paradigm of thinking. It defines how one will think on the mental scale.

I do not wish to hide it. I love being who I am, but I want certain things. When I dont have certain things I get depressed.
When you have no food, you get hungry. You do not, then, proceed to chew gum in public, do you? No, you instead go out and try to satisfy the hunger.
I cant say people really enjoy being depressed. Smiley in your descripton seems to be nonchalant about it.

It's alright...I'd be lying if I said I didn't do that for a good portion of my life, about 13 years actually.
The best way to overcome that is through self-exploration...work from your surface to your core to find out what your core belief is; make changes to the outter layers to bring yourself into harmony. If you succeed, you'll find that your masks weren't needed in the first place, and actually brought further ostracism from the people you were trying to fit with. One of the big changes you'll find you need to make is your coping skills - how to handle differences with other people and find an agreeable solution for both people.

what he means is, modern psychology isn't holistic enough. it deals with the chemical and behavioral sides of things, while ignoring the more self-concept oriented sides. it's a fair criticism, but it's also a generalization. not all people in the field of psychology take such a 2 dimensional approach, though many do.

Re: What girls really want~
It makes sense on paper, but human beings are far more complex than you make them out to be.
This is true; but I'm primarily going over personality disorders, which are actually a lot more simple than people make them out to be.
You say they are a product of mind, emotion, body, soul. True, but your posts dont take personality as a distinct member of being.
Personality is a paradigm of thinking. It defines how one will think on the mental scale.
It's actually more than just a paradigm of thinking. Personality is a by-product of being - it's the projection of soul, mind, and heart...the soul is projected into thought process, it's projection is HOW you think, not what you think. Mind is projected into emotional triggers, HOW you feel, not what you feel. And heart is projected into behaviors; HOW you act, not what you do.
Kicking a black man can be two entirely different things - if part of your core belief is white supremacy, your thinking will reflect that, as will your emotional triggers, and thus your behaviors.
If, however, your core belief is equality between all (for whatever reason), it will reflect in thoughts, emotional triggers, and thus behaviors...in order for you to kick a black man here, he would have to be violating one of your boundaries in a very serious way.
The thing about problem personas is that they are there in place of an actual personality because the individual's soul is effectively dead until they seek to awaken it.
I identify with Smiley because I am often depressed, yet smile to everyone. Your reasoning says I smile because I wish to hide it, correct?
Why do you smile then?
I do not wish to hide it. I love being who I am, but I want certain things. When I dont have certain things I get depressed.
May I ask what?
When you have no food, you get hungry. You do not, then, proceed to chew gum in public, do you? No, you instead go out and try to satisfy the hunger.
Ah, but the most effective human method of treating depression and insecurities is to talk about them and identify with people about them - I'm not saying unload your baggage on random strangers, but merely to have the courage to speak of your problems openly, honestly, and willing to atleast try advice you're given if it seems even somewhat likely to work. Of course though, spiritual means are the only entirely effective way to treat depression...even pills don't do shit in comparison.
I cant say people really enjoy being depressed. Smiley in your descripton seems to be nonchalant about it.
It's not that he's nonchalant, it's that he doesn't know how to effectively deal with his problem, and is possibly even ashamed that he feels that way...after all, he's unique and should know himself better than anybody, and know how to fix ALL his problems, hehe.
Your post really did hit a soft spot, which is why I really had to post. Damnit, I have been found ut.
Oh noes! Don't worry...we're all human and we all have problems we can't fix of our own power - that's why group efforts and faith are cool...you can get different perspectives on your own issues that you just can't see while you're involved.

I think I know my core self. I mean, I'm not having an identity crises; I'm just... peaceful and shy and fearful and just a natural mimic, all that once. By "fitting in" - or trying to - I avoid conflict. I think that's my main motivational, although I also note that sometimes it's completely natural and unnoticable until I've actually shifted myself to be able to click with whomever I am interacting with. It feels right, sometimes I love how relaxed and easy people can get. On the other hand, though, that's only when I can overcome my shyness: usually, I just mimic to avoid notice. Like you said, I have poor coping skills, and either let people walk all over me or alienate them with unbudging stubborn-ness. Usually the former, but on some issues (the treatment or mistreatment of cats, for instance) I will not step down. So yeah, I'm not usually picked on but as I restrict myself so much I fear I'm not memorable

no, it's really not. attend an AA meeting and you'll see that most of them are just trying to get by, not creating amazing art.

I'm talking about the soul and something for that soul to derive its power from...which most people mistakenly equate to religion. I'm not here to convert people, or even get them to see things my way, or spread my morals, or to spread dogma - I'm here to share some experience from my life, and to share the combined experiences from many people I have met in life.

There is no "soul" though. We don't live in the 1700's anymore with tales about goblins and elves. Nothing exists until it's proven it exists. And I don't even want to argue with you if you refuse to believe that.

Educated people have a lower variance of belonging to religions, that is all.
Ask any psychologist about addiction, its cause, its solution, and what the solution is really meant to fix. Then ask them why the solution to addiction happens, seemingly by chance, to fix ANY disorder of personality.
Or, if you don't wish to wait, I could tell you why.

I had the same plan...I was alcoholic by 16, attempted suicide by 19, and found that my music, painting, and writing are a fuck load better without the booze and drugs. Demons can be inspiration, but overcoming them is even better.

The solution happens because of complex chemical shit that we can't begin to fathom without thorough ass testing. You just fail to see what an incredible organ the human brain is. It does amazing fuckin things. It's not the "soul" man, it's allah bout the brain.

haha yeah. The starving artist thing is a noble idea, but a total myth. The mind functions much better on a full stomach.
Still...too many alcoholics did fantastic things to just ignore that alcoholism mixed with the right personality can create some awesome shit (hemmingway). It's just one of those 1 in a million kind of deals.

I don't wish to argue either...I have no desire to tell you you're wrong - you have a journey that will be travelled in time. Just so you don't forget though; when you come to the point of wanting to kill yourself, remember what I've said and quit running away. Life gets a lot better.
That won't mean anything to you right now, but it will later on. You're going to be amazed at some of the little things you remember.

Well, the thing about the artistic inspiration drugs bring, is that once you've been drunk, you can always summon that state of thinking...not the physical effects themself, but the thinking. Same with acid, DMT, MDMA...any drug really. Once I quit using all that shit, I could switch thinking mode at will, and even utilize my own creations. I'll be honest though...having been an active addict HAS helped my artistic talents, but I wasn't able to utilize my full array of talent until I quit.

what he means is, modern psychology isn't holistic enough. it deals with the chemical and behavioral sides of things, while ignoring the more self-concept oriented sides. it's a fair criticism, but it's also a generalization. not all people in the field of psychology take such a 2 dimensional approach, though many do.
Alright, now you're making yourself look stupid too.
There are SIX diffrent types of psychology, for personality.
SIX, you're stating TWO.
And all 6 are almost as equally as common.
And any psychologist with a brain knows that no single one of the approches is right in every situation, all approaches are used depending, but most focus on one with patients, it'd be too confusing otherwise. Where as there are some psychologists which try to use all. It depends on what the patient needs.
Honestly, if you know NOTHING about a field GTFO.
The types?
Trait Psychologists: Core belief, everyone is born with a certain ammount of traits they can posess, numbers range from 8-34 depending whom you ask.
Trait: A dimension of personality used to catagorize people according to the degree to which they manifest a particular characteristic.
Biological approach: Supports that atleast a portion of one's personality is genetic. (not the entire thing)
Believe personality also has to do with Brain activity, hormone levels, etc.
This is a branch of psychology that almost drools over intp psychiatry in general.
Behavioral Psychologists:
These are the ones who focused around conditioning. (Skinner etc)
I.E. learned behavior.
"Enviroment influences behavior, but behavior determines enviroment, which determines behavior" etc etc etc
Humanistic: believes everyone is in control of themselves and their actions.
Ex. If someone were to tell a humanist that they had cheated on a gf, because they couldn't control themselves, the humanist would call BS.
With this approach people are assumed to be largely responsible for their actions.
Cognitive Approach: Ways we process information/ view the world.
~~I.E. How you think hex is smart, and I think he's not all there.
Those are the ways our mind processed them, Cognitivly ~~
Each of us possesses diffrent mental representations, which play a role in our behavior.
Psychoanalytic: This is Freud's and also where Jung fell.
You know, the whole free association bit.
Parents influence on personality, childhood events etc.
Collective unconscious. I.E. just like we're born with physical traits, we're born with mental traits.
Also architypes:
Anima-Feminine side of a male
Animus-Masculine side of a female
And fullcircle The philosophy comment, I was mocking him, I'm Taoist, how can I not believe in philosophy?

And what's lacking in all six of those approaches is the mention of the soul. You're toaist you say; so what then in psychology would be the equivalent of the Master, and what then is the equivalent of that which must be emptied so it may be filled?
Ah yes...psychologists can't talk about gods at the consequence of losing their ability to practice; and they can't talk of the soul either for the same reason...yet anyone who takes an honest view at themselves knows both a master and that which channels the master to exist.
And my head's on straight...thanks for the concern though.

"souls" Those explain the born agains who commit murder in the name of god right? The priests who have sex with little boys?
Murderers? serial killers? rapists? con artists? pedophiles? depressives? ODC? Schizophrenia? Manic depression? split personalities? PT stress syndrom?

I read almost this whole thread, over roughly 45 minutes, and it is fascinating. However, I am not smart enough to respond meaningfully, so I will say this(and link back to the quote)-I found out roughly a month ago that my grandfather commited suicide because he was a schizo.

You misunderstand Taoism very much if you think there is a philosophical or religious side to it. It's truth through and through. Just as the eight-fold path is the truth through and through. As are the teachings of Christ, as are the teachings of Moses and Solomon, as are the teachings of Mohammed. They're culture based descriptions of finding faith and living faith.
And honestly, what in the bloody hell does Psychology have to do with religion?
Why would thousands of PhDs waste their time factoring in "souls" into equations.
Psychology has a lot to do with religion; religion is another example of straying from faith...the necessity of the proud and lost human to make their faith conditional.
If you want religion, drool over your churches. If you want psychology, it's psychology.
Psychology is a church, and just as futile in finding happiness.
Don't try to put the two together.
You also fail to understand the difference between faith and dogma. Psychology is just as dogmatic as any religion, just as useless, and just as counterproductive to the truth.
Let me guess, you don't believe in evolution either do you?
You assume I'm religous and dogmatic, I am not.
Souls and psychology, honestly now. Are you one of those people who gives rediculous views just for kicks?
I give the truth with no expectation other than mockery from the likes of others. It does bring me joy though when it helps another; it's the bit of taoism where it speaks of emptying the vessel so that it may be filled.
"souls" Those explain the born agains who commit murder in the name of god right? The priests who have sex with little boys?
Murderers? serial killers? rapists? con artists? pedophiles? depressives? ODC? Schizophrenia? Manic depression? split personalities? PT stress syndrom?
No, but the lack of spiritual activity explains them all. Once again, you're trying to equate religion to faith, when they are nothing alike. Faith is trusting God to manage his end of the deal, giving you the empowerment to manage your end of the deal, and trusting him to bring all to a just end. Just because you fail to understand truth doesn't mean the truth is flawed; the proud seek to find flaws in perfection, attempt to fix perfection, fail at fixing perfection, and be miserable. The humbled will find perfection even in the flawed, accept what they once percieved as flawed, understand the nature of perfection, and be happy.
Did god just not think they were worthy of having squeaky clean souls like the rest of us? or that's part of his plan right?
Once again, you're going on the heavily wronged assumption that religion equates to faith.
Wait, maybe there aren't "souls" and these people are just screwed up for reasons >psychology< works to uncover and correct.
Yet psychology fails to bring these individuals to happiness, but merely temporary relief from their demons until they find others to fill the void of depression that remains.
Send a schizo to church. Convert him, he won't stop being schizo.
I agree. But yet again, you equate religion to faith.
On the note of addictions and other personality disorders - faith is the only known cause in all the universe to not only relieve these problems, but allow happiness. No drug in existence produces the chemical reactions that faith does; no therapy does either; no belief does; no behavior does; no vice does. Faith is fundamentally unique as the truth. That's why I suggest to some that they seek out addictions...it puts them into a position where they can finally admit how useless the creations of humanity really are, or they can kill themselves after having tried all human avenues of help and remaining stubborn in their running away from the truth.

Re: What girls really want~
I haven't flip flopped once; please point out an inconsistency in any of my posts, or even the overall message I've spoken.
I'm not using psychology to analyze people; the mind is subservient to the soul, thus not the root of the problem. Thus why psychology fails at helping people find permanent relief from their misery; all it does is replace one misery with another. Effective for the purpose of maintaining a steady paycheck as a psychologist, but ultimately useless to the patient. Spiritual sickness cannot be cured by knowledge of self.
And also, I haven't put anybody into categories - I was speaking of facades and the interior condition that typically leads to such facades. The root problem is lack of faith - lack of faith is the root of ALL problems. Give me an example where you think it is not, and I will show you otherwise.
