Default Pessimistic about love.

When it comes to love, or being in love, does anyone ever get this horrible gut-wrenching feeling that no matter how well things are going eventually it's all going to go to shit?

That's something I completely despise about myself. I could be in the best relationship, never felt anything like it, couldn't ask for more...However there are times when I get filled with such hopelessness and sadness in thinking that eventually it may all get completely fucked. The only way I can even remotely ease that feeling is to tell myself that I'd deal with that when it comes and that it's nothing to get worked up about.

I was just wondering if anyone else gets these feelings, and gets overwhelmed by them. I think it's normal, yes, but sometimes it can just get so consuming it's scary. What do you find helps to get yourself out of that pessimistic mindset?

For a very long time, I have. Still do, to an extent.

Why do we only seem to get philosophical when it comes to love? It's a strange world.

That's a little outlandish, wouldn't you say? Of course you'll find love. I can't guarantee you'll find true true love, but that's just because...well... Who's to say what true love really is. But you'll be happy with someone and feel things you've never felt before. I used to think the same way you do, I think everyone has.

By we you mean you, right?

I think alot of old people die unhappy and alone, but that is still hard to prove or disprove.

Also, I sort of feel like the basic premise of your thread, and I can be 100% certain that yoyobek probably completely feels like you with some of the other stuff she has posted.

i don't think it's outlandish. i look at the way things are going, and while i see the potential for sex, flings, and "friendship" in my future, i don't see love. it makes me sad, i just believe it's true. i hope i'm wrong though.

Yeah, I've read quite a few things from Yoyobek as well and after I posted this she popped into my head. It's a shitty feeling, especially when it becomes almost unbearable.

I think a lot of old people die unhappy and alone as well, unfortunately. Though that's not to say that they never had love or experienced those feelings at some point. I was just saying to Lauren that though the outlook may seem grim at the moment, I truly believe that everyone will find love at some point in their lives.

i think at least 50% of old people die alone and unhappy, because their partners have already died.

I'm in love but i still know that nothing lasts forever. It doesnt meant that theres anything wrong with you, you're just more realistic than many people.

Plus imo alot of people lie about thinking that they'll be together forever because they think that conventionally they're supposed to.

My girlfriend thinks well be together forever, and i say, for the next five years. Just think about the present, and how you feel right now, dont think about how you'll eventually just break up etc.

You'll eventually die too but you may as well live while you're waiting right?

No, I'm generalizing. Most people seem to let their whole lives pass them through, then they fall in love.

The rest of us, remain philosophical for the long run- that or apathetic.

Oh, well. Depression's depression.

That's a good way to look at it, I think.

Stop that and smile.

Many elderly people live full lives after their partners pass on. Quite a few even find new partners.

Life lasts a long time, unhappiness doesn't.

haha, i actually meant it as a POSITIVE. like, it's not that people die alone because they never had partners. many just outlive their partners.
