Default Is this right to attack my step-dad?(kinda long)(not some rebellious teenage rant)

Yes, let me introduce myself. My name is Nic, I have a mother and a step-father. Now my step-dad and I usually never got along. As I was younger he would threaten and yell at me alot, and my mom claimed since she didnt see it she couldnt do anything about it. Most of the time it was just threats about "taking me out back and beating me within an inch of my life",there were many other variations, but it was basically saying the same thing. I was fucking 7 years old, I was scared. So this went on till I was about 12, then this happened every once in awhile. My mom saw this/or heard it a few times, took minimal effort to stand up for me. I didnt really put 2 and 2 together then. But now 15 it happened again today, and then it hit me.

What happened in this situation was this:I was arguing with my mom about trying to "lessen my sentence" because I was grounded. We were arguing in the kitchen, I was sitting on the kitchen table. And so my step-dad walks in and within 5 minutes of him walking in the door he comes into the kitchen(he was headed there anyway). He then tells me tos hut up because he is tired and cranky and doesnt want to hear it and tells me that he will slap me off the kitchen table if I do not shut up . So I tell him that this arguement is not with him, so if it does bother him he should leave the room(theres not much to do in the kitchen anyway). He then tells me if he hears another word from me he will take me and back and such.(More of his macho bullshit)(I dont think he is man enough to take up on his claims). And my mom just chuckles. So, I just kinda walk off.Now later he leaves to pick up his step-son from school(me and him are really close and are cool with each other, but he doesnt play an important roll anyway) So I talk to my mom and I ask do you think his threats are justified and she just tries to turn it into something more complex then it really is, she never gave me a straight forward answer. So now by how she responded and acted, I think she would have wanted to see me get the shit beaten out of me, or at least hit a few good times.

Now what Im wondering is,

Do you think I should actually challenge him, see if hes man enough to do it?

Because if he does, I would not hesitate to wail on his ass till either I get tired or even if I lose? I mean whatever harm I do to him, its self defence as long as he makes the first move? I mean, Im sick and tired of him doing it, and besides Id also call the cops on him.Yea, kinda jumbled but what do you think on it

Actually I don't think it would matter if he made the first move or not. You're a minor, and he has a responsibility to ensure your welfare. Somehow I doubt "belting you to within an inch of your life" is ensuring your welfare.

But to be on the safe side, let him hit you first, or at least throw the first punch (without it connecting). Actually, if no one's around, you start it then say he did.

But stand up to him on it. Ask him if he thinks he's a big man, threatening a 15 year old.

You could go for it, but that'll fuck up all the relationships a lot more. On the flipside, maybe he'd shut his mouth and stop trying to prove his manhood by pickin' on his step son.

I strangled my step-dad until he was unconcious when I was thirteen. You may be able to, but is the fight really worth it? Do you actually see this guy as a father figure? Is it worth it?

Trust me, Ive tried, she just ignores me or changes the subject. Yet, it all gets put back on me, Im told if I call the cops then I will lose all my privileges because itd be my fault wed all have to go to see a family psychiatrist. Well Ive seen 6 so far over my life time because its always been my fault. And my step-dad has seen 1, maybe once ot twice at the most.

Hes no where near a father figure, I havent really had a father figure my whole life. My dad died in '92, when I was about a year old, he died of cancer.

I strongly reccomend that you do the following:

1] Think objectively about whether or not you could beat your step dad in a fight are there any particular circumstances that would make it easier. ESPECIALLY DRINKING on his part

2] If the answer above is yes then do call the police.

3] When your privileges are taken away get into a fight and win it.

On the other hand you are under his roof and so forth. The real issue may be with your mother.

Drunk people get violent. If he's drunk enough he could end up killing or seriously injuring him and then regret it later, because alcohol impairs judgement.

Man, I'd say next time he talks shit like that to you punch him in the fucking face.

He's supposed to be a father figure not some shit-talking moron. And as for your mom.....Oh fuck don't even get me started.

Your family sounds too much like mine man, fuck it pisses me off when ever I see it.

I'd get outta there asap if it keeps going on like it is.

Me and my stepdad fought alot(even though he got his ass handed to him every single time),and unfortunately this ended up in him beaten severely,my mom with spit in her face and me in Juvie for about 7 months.

So its best to get outta there before you reach boiling point.

The poster would regret that for a long time. He'd go to prison for at leat 8 years.

I meant does the stepfather drink. If the poster beats up a drunk about whom he has already complained to the police the police themselves will have a different attitude and might regad it as none of their business.

(Though a judge or investigating magistrate probably won't).

Well seeing as how you were already grounded, just deal with it. You probably did something stupid to get grounded in the first place.

He's an ass for saying shit like psych evals are your problem and picking on you, but he probably thinks you have an attitude problem as well.

Try not to, but if you do get into it with him, win. Why lose and make him feel bigger, especially if he's truly picking on you? Put him in his damn place, regardless if he's your pops.

Like someone said, ask him if it makes him a big man picking on a 15 year old.

Don't bother with cops. No one needs pigs or shrinks adding what they think is "family values" with the way the world is today. Sometimes a little scuffle is needed in a house.

I just hope you won't being a little punk, otherwise I'm gonna feel stupid for siding with you.

I can't believe that women let their husband/boyfriend be mean to their kids! If any man, even my daughter's FATHER was ever abusive to her, I would dump him in a heartbeat.

Most women let it happen because their afraid of being alone or something.

I think i heard on the radio around here one time a womans daughter(i think she was around 11) told her mother that her new boyfriend was rapeing her when her mom was at work. The woman didnt believe her and let this go on for awhile before the girl finally told the her school teacher.
