And I thought that americans were prude...
I've always thought europe was on the whole more open and less victorian in it's treatment of sexual topics than america and there does seem to be a inbuilt prudity in many americans who post here...sometimes belaying a very kinky nature :P
However
I walked past the Police Video Bulletin Board last night (a vid screen in town with police 'news').
I stopped and read the following announcement :
"Police request any residents of the villages 'Upper Nose Bleed' and 'Lower Colostomy Bag' who have found articles of a personal nature discarded in their gardens to contact them"
Took me a minute to work out what they meant. It's got to be either condoms or san-towels, hasn't it?
Seems we're not so open and grown up as i thought

Maybe there's a serial killer out there who for some reason throws his victims panties in other people's gardens?

Assaulted: This word is still used in Ireland.
Mrs O'Leary was punched in the ovaries, choked, thrown into a ditch and assaulted.

I can't see dumped jonnies and pads being a police issue, couldn't it just be someone's lost something? I always found the English to be rather prudent though, in comparison to the rest of us Europeans.

You forget that down here in the diaspora witches, warlocks and other maleficent characters make use of blood and bodily fluids to wrought their vile deeds, potions and divers malevolent works of cunning.
Therefore discarded bodily waste and 'proteins' are of course a matter for the local constabulary!

Maybe a few hundred years ago.
Now, witches (well, people that call themselves witches, at least) practice as openly as Christians.
The only people we burn are serial killers, and hookers.
Hookers that won't have a threesome with my dog and my sister. It's sad, really, because it's a beautiful dog.

That's not being a prude, that's called cleaning up the environment and not leaving behind a potentially biohazardous substance. Would you want a man/woman with AIDS leaving behind a condom/tampon in your front yard?

Re: And I thought that americans were prude...
England doesn't count as europe in terms of openness. I've been and stayed in England many times and everyone except maybe a few of the teens are extremely prude. I couldn't imagine someone ever saying english people were open about sexuality and the like.
I live in Canada and have stayed in the states quite a bit too. Between the two I would say Canada is alot more open. Maybe this is just my experiences but with all the people I've met this is what I have come to believe.
I also lived in Italy for 3 years, they are very open with sex. You can see porn at the magazine stands and most beaches include topless women/kids and alot of the time botomless kids up to 12 as well. Ads on tv had nudity in them. An ad for water featured a completely nude women swiming through a massive bottle of water, clearly showing her breasts as well as nipples. There is also the fact that as a 12 year old kid I was approached by hookers way more times than I can count. They were everywhere. I never really had a conversation about sex in Italy though. Oh and there are naked women on so many postcards it isn't funny.
Germany... I can't really speak for the whole country. Stayed there for about two weeks... In the red light district. If I were to base the country on that trip I would have to say that the whole place was naked women on the streets, hand out porn mags, sex hotels, and drugs. But, having visited other areas of germany, I can safley say that the whole country is not like that. Germany is actually a really cool country, lots and lots of beautiful buildings and nice people.
Overall Europe is more open about sex, but by how much, is rather difficult to measure.

Well if california is 22nd and a half century then my god have mercy on my great great great grandkids souls. The thought of them not being able to smoke where they want or having such strict gun laws or smoggy air and all that other shitty stuffa botu california just makes me sad.
And maybe america is prudes idk. My friend and his girlfriend are defeinatly prudes compared to me and my girl. They are like (talking to each other)"ooo a shower together you wouldnt do it" "not uh you wouldnt id totally do it, if you got naked first" And im just liek "WTF? Why dont you both just quit being fags and get naked and fuck in the shower me and my girl did that shit so many times already its bomb as fuck you should try some handcuffs to". Silly people with their sexual prudness.

Compared to the England of my youth , things here have become far more open. England always had the reputation for 'things really going on behind closed curtains' but now there is much much more openness. Don't confuse the Brits natural reservedness (is that a word?) with being prudish.
Having lived and worked most of my adult life in germany i have to agree with what you say about it. BTW i used to work in the middle of one of the Red Light districts.

Colorectal foreign bodies. People get things stuck up their ass and go to the hospital and say, "I fell on it."

Re: And I thought that americans were prude...
What the hell? The police put a bulletin up for that? I see condoms lying around all the time, I don't call the police. And my friends and I went through a phase a few years ago where we would make tampons and pads look all bloody with food colouring and then plaster the local elementry school with them. On parent teacher interview night...Mwhahahaha!
We also once put chocolate sauce in a pair of (clean) panties and threw them from the top level of the mall to the main floor. It was so freaking hilarious. Little kids would pick them up and show them to their parents and the parents would flip out and be like "OMG DON'T TOUCH THOSE!!!"
That really has nothing to do with the original post. Meh.

Come on now thats no bueno. Have some fucking decency leave the kids out of it. Kids dont need to be finding fucking pretend bloody tampons on the playground.

Aaages ago me and some mates did a similar thing - only we threw them at this guy's window. I don't remember exactly why. I think someone said he was a bastard, and that was good enough for us at the time.
Anyway, the best thing was the way the first one hit the glass. There was a big THUMP on impact, and then this big, wet, ketchupy mess slid slowly down the window, leaving a little trail as it went.
Pure visual poetry.

I'll admit that some of the prudish behaviour I had seen very well could have been people just being reserved. Although... I know for a fact that this wasn't the case with a few people (amoung them my best friends parents).
I have strong distaste for my best friends parents, mainly because of how prude and strict they are.
Though it isn't fair of me to base the entire country on only the people I have met and I'm sure at least some of the "prudishness" I had seen was just me jumping to conclusions (something I do alot).

The point is that they couldn't describe said "articles of a personal nature".
