Well, no shit it's easier. But I consider it a lot more rude to do that than just to say "I'd rather not".

But they're somewhere in between:

1) Bitchy - they don't care about how rude it is, it's just easier and less messy for them to get rid of you with a fake number

2) Cowardly - they'd feel to embarassed and awkward if they turned you down to your face, this way they don't have to go through it in person

She finds a guy who looks like a total chump, flirts with him a bit, gets him to buy her drinks for an hour or so, then gives him a fake number and moves on.

If she's about to leave the bar then I dont see why she wouldnt just say "no im not giving you my number" and walk out, but I guess if she plans on staying at that spot for a while, or if the guy asks for her number early on, giving him a fake number means she can milk more beers out of him later.

She's hardly a cowardly woman, I think she just gets off on making complete fools out of some guys.

Sometimes it's a mistake with the digit missing...on my phone, if you put a 1 before the area code, it won't let you put in all the digits, and you don't really notice when you're drunk. I've had people put their number in my phone and hit the 1 and then they're like, "Why didn't you call me? "

I actually found it kind of funny, but that's probably because she never did anything like that to me.

The guys Im talking about arent fucking high school kids, these are guys in their mid to late twenties who have already firmly established their attitudes towards women and if getting blown off by some chic they knew for an hour at a bar deeply upsets them and destroys their psyche then they weren't really stable to begin with.

Well in fairness, as of late she really has leveled out. She has a steady job and a steady boyfriend and really doesnt go out barhopping much anymore. It was more when she was still in college when she did this.

Im sure some of you would like to say "yea, well I bet it will happen to her eventually, and she'll deserve it." But maybe it wont. People get away with shit all the time.

This is why in Australia we have the rejection line. The number is +61419317446. If you're in Oz, just cut off the first +61 and add 0. I have no idea why you'd want to call it if you were overseas.

And it says something along the lines of "the person who gave you this number never wants to see you again, we'd just like to take this moment to tell you that you've been officially rejected."
