Default Are obsessions curable?

I feel like I'm doomed to be obsessed with this certain girl forever.

It all started when I used to watch her from afar at this certain bar I used to go to every week. When I first started going there, she went there regularly with a fairly large group of people. For some reason though, she stood out to me.

Some months later, I saw her there alone. I was also alone, as I go to this bar every wednesday, no matter what. I knew more of my friends would have arrived later on.

Anyway, I was quite drunk already, and decided to go up and talk to her. I used the line; "You seem so familiar... I swear I know you from somewhere." (Yeah, from watching you unbeknownst to you for months).

I asked her why she was there alone, and she told me that she was waiting for some friends. Being the friendly, outgoing, charismatic girl that she is, we ended up getting along quite well. We exchanged e-mail addresses at some point. I can't remember if we exchanged phone numbers that night.

So, fast forward several months later... One day on MSN, I just say, out of nowhere "Do you ever have sexual thoughts about me?". I have no idea what drove me to ask that, but her response blew me away. She instantly went offline, and called me. We then made plans to hang out that night.

We had a bit of a thing going on, although she was (and still is) in a long-term relationship with this guy. At one point, she broke up with him for me. During this time, I had completely fallen for her. It was probably the best week or so of my life. I had never experienced such emotions.

Then it all came crashing down, as she returned to her boyfriend.

Anyway, fast forward another several months... I see her tonight at this Drum n Bass club. I knew she would be there. She loves drum n bass, and these were supposedly some world class headliners there that night.

I was actually invited by this other girl (who is just a friend), but the real reason I went, was because I just knew that the other girl (who I have a crush on) would be there.

So anyway, now a bunch of feelings are brought back. For me at least.

And I realize, that no matter what I do, I just can't shake that feeling. I feel as though it's there for good.

She has these two best friends, who are both extremely hot... even hotter than her.

But there's something about her... that I can't exactly point out...

I mean, I've had crushes before, even obsessive ones, but these girls all had flaws that I eventually discovered, and that's how they ended.

But with this girl, she seems practically flawless.

The way I feel around her is something totally out of this world.

Will it ever go away?

Cure = Time. I've been there, just give it time.

That's the thing though, I can go months without seeing her, but then when I see her again, it's right back to square one.

I'm addicted to her, I can't just completely cut off contact with her.

I'd actually rather be obsessed with her and still jsut be friends, than to never see her again.

You deem cheating on her boyfriend with you as flawless?

Fucking brilliant...

No. It's not curable; but something few realize is that obsession is part of everyone's life, and will find a massive variety of ways to exist. It can be put underneath you, though: you're a lone man fighting the world, but with help you can prevail.

Try going to AlAnon - it's a 12-step meeting for family members of alcoholics that helps them to break co-dependency towards their alcoholic loved ones. You may not have any alcoholic family members, or you might, but it works for anyone in any situation in which they find themselves relying on an external object to bring them their juice, hehe.

I'll give you the basis of what the program is meant to do: Bring you humility - allow you to understand why you are proud - rid you of your pride - and humble you.

It's essentially dedicated to reviving and rebuilding your dead spirit so you can face material issues with real confidence.

Sounds nutty? Well, it is...but I gaurantee it works better than your brand of insanity.

That reflects nothing on her personality. Maybe she just didn't like him anymore? Or got bored of him?

Here's a startling fact for you...

Not every relationship lasts forever!

Which is why she dumped him when she realized (or at least thought) she liked me more.

I've been through many since her. Including a 7 month relationship.

Actually that does sounds like it could work.

I guess it doesn't bother me enough that I would actually go to such an extent to deal with it. I mean, it doesn't consume my life or anything. Maybe obsession is the wrong word. I disliked my past obsessive crushes because I felt like they controlled me and my life. With this girl, she is actually a really good person in general and very fun to be around, so I don't see it in that way.

Maybe it's like a light form of love.

Also, if anything, I should be going to AA meetings for my actual drinking problem. Now that is something I want to quit.

Either way, really good post, thanks.

^So when she gets bored of you, since you know it happens to you all the time, what then?

Are you going to write a thread that the supposed "flawless" girl is now cheating on you?

I'm sure if yall ever hook up we will be reading some sappy story about your bitch ass crying in the corner when you find out she's been fucking a non-boring guy.

The best cure for obsession is, as has been pointed out, time. But somewhat inherently, this cure takes a little, er, 'time'.

Short term cure? A new obsession.
