I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or seriousness. I'll assume you're being serious, given that it's almost 2 in the morning over here. A kilo is short for a kilogram, which is 1000 (one thousand) grams. I gram is the weight of one millilitre of water, which measures one centimetre by one centimetre.
Damn I love the metric system. Base of ten, brilliant.
Edit: European? Like hell. Australian. All the good bits of Europe, and none of the crap from America.

Unfortunately we do have fat people
But on the upside they're Americans. All of them. And they come to spend their US dollars, of which we give them a 1:1 exchange rate. Then they leave. With toy crocodiles.

Engineers everywhere in the world use the Metric system to design everything. They convert it afterwards to the standard system to help the slow americans to understand. It's not suprising since most americans still believe creationism over evolution. Get with the times.

Yeah that "Intelligent design" bullshit is pretty embarrassing.
"Though I clothe myself in old odd ends stolen forth from holy writ to seem a saint, where most I play the devil."
And they as me, "How is it that you aren't at church?" And I tell them, "Because if there is a god, he sure as hell is not worth praying to!"

Over here the only times the old system are brought into play are for measuring drugs (28 grams to an ounce) and for measuring height/length, because for some reason no one has any idea how tall 179 centimetres is, or how long 23 centimetres is.

Fucking hell. Use metric. Save me trying to convert it each time. That's like 180kgs. And if she's lost 30... 150kgs. I'm sorry, if I even thought of touching something that big I'd have to kick my own arse.
Oh, and you're not shallow. You just realise that getting squashed isn't a good idea.

Kinda interesting that the system we use here in the colonies (Feet, pints and pounds, etal) are known as the "English Measure".
I beleive it was brought here by some fucked up Europeans, of all people.

Shit dude I wish america would convert to metric... It's so much more fucking convenient. It seems to be the only metric system usage is in the drug world... and even there, it's only for a certain quantity before it switches over to whatever the fuck we call our system...

She lost about 70 lbs. If she's still dumpy (140lbs?) that started as 210lbs. Goddam son, that's one huge bitch. Get her to walk instead of you carrying her, or don't date people who acts 10 years old (carry everywhere). Don't carry her, duh? If she looks alright now, and YOU want to bang/be with her, then go for it, don't go off of totse's opinion on this, no one here knos her, but you, duh.

Better carry her to avoid random face-plants leading to a deformed face.

Personal attacks are not something you should be undertaking.
As it stands, the metric system is extremely wack for most Americans. After you learn how to think in base two, three, four, six, eight, sixteen, though, it seems all that more logical seeing how our counting system works.
But really, it's the way we keep time that makes me feel sick. 60 minutes to an hour? 24 hours in a day? What the heck? That's 1,440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds. Why couldn't we just design a simpler system using base ten for that?

By the way, you're doing a great job helping all of Totse understand the measurements.
Edit:I'm 5'8 and I weigh 145. Nobody ever believes me because I'm not at all fat, nor do I even look like I would weigh that much(this isn't an invitation for picture request. I don't have them anyways right now). 140lb isn't much at all unless she's under about 5'5, which has already been stated.

Let see now that would neccesitate a change to the method that we use for positioning ourselves on the face of this planet.
Our system of longitude/latitude coordinates use degrees, minutes, seconds all based on constant of 60.
Everyone in the world uses it as a means of navigation.
It's really interesting how you can get your panties in a wad over the system of measuring things and pay no attention to the thousands of languages (including dialects) used in the world.
By the way, that is still a fat broad!

Why all of this confusion?
Why?

its really not all that inconvenient. once you know the basic conversions ( 5280 feet/mile, 16 cups/gallon, 3 teaspoons/tablespoon, 16oz/lb, etc) its all just simple multiplication/division. nothing that can't be done with half a brain a second or two extra.

Re: Going Out with girl that just lost 5 stone
First of all she is really short. She is about 5 Foot 1 or 1.5 metres.
Secondly she used to weigh 13 stone or 182 lbs or 82.5 kilos
Now she weighs about 8 1/2 stone or 120 lbs or 54 kilos.
Shut up about fucking metric or imperial or whatever. Bring back Thermidor that's what I say.
So far as I am concerned she is still a bit dumpy but I don't mind.
She is immature (in this specific area of men) I am probably the first guy who ever thought she was good looking. Though logically her looks must have progressively improved as she lost weight. I would be surprised if she ever had a boyfriend she thought was good looking or who wasn't a 'gay best friend' type.
Surely the weight above is fat in America -- I thought the fat American thing was a stereotype.
EDITED
Last 'girlfriend' was very thin so this is a nice change.
BUT I think she is starting to eat like a fat heifer again. She's been losing weight from sex and I think she now believes that she doesn't have to worry about it.
How to tell her 'If you put any weight on your dumped' without sounding shallow.
PS I'm no oil painting

Nothing I didn't mention the fucking metric system. I wanted to talk about girls who have from whale to pleasantly plump (or 'thick' as I believe they say in America)
But I think in either kilos or stones and never pounds, I think in feet and inches for height and metric for everything else. Sounds odd to me when people say they are 180 cm or 177 or whatever.
CAN WE PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT THE METRIC SYSTEM.

I dunno, im english, and I use a mixture of the metric and imperial system.
I use grams for small stuff, ounces for slightly bigger stuff, and stones for people.
I do height in feet and inches, distance in miles, but anything short I do in centimetres.
Best of both

Re: Going Out with girl that just lost 5 stone
120lbs is not a lot. then again i'm 5'6'', so 120lbs looked pretty thin on me. anyway, i guess you could maybe just ask her what she did to get that way, and if she's planning on keeping it or what. it's not really your choice what she does, however it would be better to be clear on this issue before she goes up 30 pounds in a month and doesn't know what to do. i'd get things settled while she's in her current blissful state.

5'8" and 145 lb? And people can't believe you weigh that much? Of course, because that's not very much, especially since you are tall! I'm 5'6" and 145 lb and no one thinks I'm fat!

|
The time system can't, and never will, change. It's based on the speed of the earths rotation, and the circumference of the earth. Unless you can find a way around that, it won't work. All the meridians are divided into degrees, which is 60 miles square, which is divided into hours and minutes. So to change the time system to base 10, it would mean changing not only clocks all over the world, but anything to do with maps, or geography. Its fairly unfeasable...

Ahem, why do you want to stop talking about the metric system?
Seems like you started a hot thread here, don't you want it to continue?
If you would have started the thread with something like "Going out with a girl who lost a lot of weight", we would not be talking about the fucking metric system.
Now, to the original topic, don't worry about it, she will be appreciative and will make you look better in the other chicks eyes.
"What a nice bloke for shagging the pudgy one" or something like that.

Re: Going Out with girl that just lost 5 stone
Alright, screw that, we're going to use the BMI (body mass index) to work out her fatness.
At 5 foot 1, and 182 pounds, she came in at 34.4. That's classified as obese. Now that she's dropped down to 120 pounds, her BMI is 22.7. That puts her into the normal weight category.
So there you go, she's healthy and normal.
Oh, and the site is http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ for the imperial system, and http://www.mydr.com.au/tools/bodymass.asp for the metric system.

I know metric and imperial fine. It's really not that hard to spend 5 minutes on google learning it. You Americans should make more of an effort to learn the way other countries do things.

After all the bullshit that has been spread in here, certain facts should be mentioned.
In the USA:
1.) Practically all fasteners used in industry are metric, most engineering data for the auto industry is metric as well.
2.) Almost all food and drink is packaged in containers that are metric sized (with oz, conversions)
3.) All prescribed medical dosages are in metric.
4.) With the exception of the construction industry, most products are manufactured to metric standards.
In the 70's a timetable for metric conversion was mandated by the US congress, after a study showed that the enormous financial impact and confusion on the US public would be crippling, it was decided to allow the conversion to be voluntary.
Most industial changes would be simple, to get the average citizen thinking metric would be extremely difficult.
Canada has found this out. They are still showing both systems after decades have passsed since they changed.
Sorry spinnersean

Whereas in Australia they just changed it all in one hit, and it worked fine. When the baby boomers all die out, so will the imperial system.

Then people really need to stop bitching to Americans to change to metric as that'd mean changing all of our signs and cars and maps and whatnot.
So shut the fuck up or we'll declare you terrorists! RAWR!!

Oh yeah, and what the fuck's up with Fahrenheit? Why do Americans insist on using inconvenient, impractical measurements that are never used in the scientific world?

Me too. Yay. But I'm also a guy and fifteen. I know you are a girl and I will assume you are older than me.
OP-I thought that fat people end up being jacked after they lose all the weight because of how much muscle it took to carry that weight around. Therefore, if anything she should be carrying you.
Can anyone confirm this idea?

What country uses the term "stone" though? Wtf?

pffft, a pint in a pub isn't an actual pint. It's less.
As for fahrenheit, that was supposed to be based on 100 being the normal human body temperature (which it's not). Celcius on the other hand is based on water (100 being the boiling point, 0 being the freezing point). It doesn't really have a true base 10 system.
Plus, in scientific terms, Kelvin is used (0 being absolute zero). I think 0 Kelvin is about -273 degrees celcius, but I could be wrong.
Shit, I've continued the hijaking of this thread.

Best of both
Yup, same.
And OP, it's not the fact that she's "dumpy" that's the problem imo, it's that you have to carry her!!
IF you like her, date her, if not, don't, this aint a hard situation

Farenheit is better than Celsius measurements because they or more precise. Celsius isn't even SI anyway and I don't see any Europeans measuring tempuratures in Kelvin.

Do you have downsydrome?
They teach the metric system in American science classes, I am an American and I know the metric system just as well as I know the Imperial system.
You ought to do some thinking before you assume that Americans don't understand the metic system, and don't know how other countries do things.

Metic = the best.
Its nice to be able to measure in the same fucking base that we count in. Even our current system of time is pretty stupid, but is nothing compared to that piece of shit measuring "system" we use here in America.

But celsius has the same scale as the SI unit, so you can do half the SI measurements in it anyway.
Also, who cares if farenheight are more acurate. Do you see anyone using nanometers to measure the length of a ship? We can use decimal places for more accuracy.

Damn I love the metric system. Base of ten, brilliant.
Edit: European? Like hell. Australian. All the good bits of Europe, and none of the crap from America.
We measure by teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, pints, quarts and gallons here.
And for weight we measure by pounds.
For distance by inches, feet, yards and miles!
The metric system is whack.
I use my own system which is a combination of both...I like inches, feet, meters and Miles (Fucking people who are '180 centimeters tall'...FUCK I dont understand that shit), I also like cups, MLs are good cause thats waht Im used to seeing on syringes , and teaspoons and tablespoons can stay as well...Oh Farenheit > Celcius, I live in Canada btw.
I find it to be a nice combination of measurements, works for me.

This must be the most amusing thread hijacking ever. There are 2 or 3 responses relating to weight and 50 relating to measuring systems.
