Default Boyfriends Friends.

Alrighty. I met a guy at work and we've been dating for the past few months. Now, we get along so well, our conversations flow, we're very physical with each other. For me [and for him as well, he says] it's the happiest I've been in a very long time, and one of the most mature relationships I've had.

I'm not usually shy, in fact I'd consider myself fairly outgoing. I get along with people really easily, I make friends quickly, if I may say so myself I'm not absolutely terrible to be around. However, when he first introduced me to his friends I froze. At first I thought it was nerves, that I was just scared of not being accepted and that I'd get over it, but we're constantly hanging out with them and each time we do I feel like the odd one out. I find I have a different approach to humour than his friends do [which surprises me because I can joke around with him no problem]. They're loud and goofy and talk total nonsense, where I'm more sarcastic and deadpan and I'm sure that if I were to use my humour around them they'd take me seriously and that wouldn't go over well.

I was just wondering if there were any ways that I could get over this 'fear' I seem to have, and be able to be myself with his friends like I am with him? He's always telling me it's not a big deal that I'm different than his friends and I believe him, but for myself I want to be able to get along with them. I think it would bring us closer, if anything. And it just sucks feeling so weird with people I have almost nothing in common with, so far as I can tell.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Obviously they don't think ill of you, and your boyfriend wouldn't mind at all. In fact, if you started getting friendly with his friends, he might start feeling awkward.

But if that's a risk you're willing to take, perhaps you could try to take their humour, and put your own twist on it.

However it goes, good luck, and good on ya for having such a cool relationship

Thank you!

Apparently they do like me, but I find that so crazy since I've given them almost nothing to go on.

Another thing is they've all known each other since they were little kids and have their own jokes and stuff, so to try and fit in with that seems almost impossible.

I know he wants me to get along with his friends, and we do get along but I feel like I'm not trying hard enough because I'm not sure how. I don't think I can change my sense of humour, but if I could just relax enough to let loose and be myself I could work things out.

Just be yourself! And just so you know, MOST LIKELY, if your bf/gf's friends don't like you, the relationship won't last too long. So if you've been dating for a few months and you still hang out with them a lot, that means they like you. Yay.

But then there's also the problem of the friends liking you too much. And that's bad. So very bad...
