Are you protective of friends and/or family?
Just wondering. Lets say a friend or family member was getting themselves into a relatonship you didn't really approve of would you get involved or not?
Any past experiences to talk about where you have stepped in or rised your voice on a situation or someone has done so to you?

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
I'll let my mates decide on their own prospective partners. However, my sister usually wants me to meet any guy she's seeing, usually to make sure he's not too emo for her, otherwise they just end up sitting around being emo togther, or being emo on MSN (how the fuck is someone emo on MSN?).

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
i am extremely protective of my family and do not hesitate to say how i feel about the things they are getting into or the people they become involved with.
my dad, who i no longer speak to, has a tendancy of becoming involved with very unstable women who use him for money and a roof. time and time again i have voiced my concerns, which later on were justified by the womens' episodes.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
One of my best friends can be a little, shall we say, over-friendly, when intoxicated.
Hence, I have a slight reputation in our local pub for being the over-protective cockblocking friend.
I don't think I'm unreasonable about it, I just don't want to see her get taken advantage of. If it's someone who is alright, and she'd go for when sober, I'm not going to spoil her fun.
She had a boyfriend a while back, who I didn't like at all, and I told her quite clearly that she was making a mistake. But when she decided to date him anyway, I wasn't resentful about it. (It ended badly, I was smug ).
I think you can only get involved so far, in the end it's their decision. Just let them know exactly why you don't like it, if they still go for it, you have to respect that.

Who my friends or my kids sleep with is their business and their business alone...so long as they aren't sleeping with a ginger, of course.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
I will give my opinion if asked, or if i really feel strongly about someone a friend/family member is dating.
But ultimatly its there choice and if they dont agree with me then I will still help them with it.

lol, yep, saw that one coming. You are aware that if one of your kids does actually shack up with a ginger you'll have to shoot pretty much every second child they have.

I'll voice my concerns, if any. But i will not act unless there is a clear and present danger. Then it's hammer time.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
Being a guy, I don't really tell my guy friends who to date, or whatever. If they hook up with some ugly girl though, of course they're gonna get shit for it, but I'm not gonna do anything else about it.
Girls on the other hand, if they ask me my opinion, I'll give it to them, but otherwise, I usually don't unless I see them really heading in the wrong direction.
Family, I've never known if my brother has ever had a girlfriend, or has been laid. All I know is who he went to homecoming with his senior year. He hardly ever talks to me about women... But I've heard good drunken stories that end with the allusion that he got laid or somthing.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
i have in the past with some friends. one got into a relationship with someone i knew she shouldn't probably be going out with. i told her such. saying that it was a stupid decision. and, by god it was. the guy went out with the girl to piss me off (it worked) and about a week later broke up with her.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
The only reason I'd disapprove of my friends getting in relationships is because they're cheating bastards, and the girls are too nice/kind to deserve that shit.
How ever, mates come first. So I just have to stand by and watch them cheat on them time after time.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
It depends on the friend and on the family member. I'm not protective without a reason.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
I'm protective of my friends and family, but not to protective. If I have an opinion about who they are dating/seeing then I will say something. But I will only get involved if I see that person treating them wrong. I have threatened enough people when it comes to friends and family...

My family and friends can make up their own damn minds.
But when somebody screws with either of my two best friends younger sister's, there's hell to pay.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
It all depends on why you don't like the relationship. I mean if i really thought a friend or family member was heading in a bad direction, id give them my opinion but its up to them if they take it or not.

Re: Are you protective of friends and/or family?
Only with family when it's getting into a bad situation. If I really don't like who my sister/mom/stepsister/whatever is dating i'll tell them, if it gets worse, i'll hunt the guy down and have a little one on one with him. Well maybe 3 on 1 depends what they do/say to me/them.
