Trouble with friends
Yay...
Well, here's the story. During summer, I did acid and had a trip that kind of woke me up. I realized how retarded I was drinking/smoking everyday, while my parents were working hard to keep my stomach filled. My brother is just coming to an age of learning (4), and I just don't want him to be any bit like me.
Anyway, in the trip I was basically presented with my worthless life, and how I got by classes with the lowest of the grades, basically a huge reality slap. I realized that the reason I couldn't see myself ten-twenty years from now, was because I'd be dead before that even happened. As soon as that thought came in, I ended my trip with a downer.
After that incident, I basically avoided most of my friends. I never went out, I worked, I babysat, and I played computer games. My friends are starting to realize that I'm putting distance in between, but I really don't want be akward between us later on. Sometimes I just get sent on guilt trips and feel shitty later in my house.
Just now, a friend who I hung out with everyday talked with me, and said "i want to smoke, but i guess you don't want to."
Half these friends are good kids, I don't want to let go of them. Nor do I really want to touch the thing again.. I thought maybe this could be a phase, but maybe it'd be better for my life if it weren't.
Fuck, lol.

Re: Trouble with friends
Anybody who does drugs cannot be a good friend. If they do drugs, it means they do not care about their own body or life. So how in the world would you as a friend have any meaning for them either?

Woah, that's pretty harsh man. I do drugs and care about myself. It's all about what drugs you do and how you do them.

Re: Trouble with friends
I had a similar but experience on a lot of mushrooms. I analyzed my life and friendships and habits and convinced myself that my friends are not what I want to be. I can not describe the threads of thought in english as the thoughts were in russian but.. I can see what you thought of on acid.
The immediate shift of perspective was only temporary... it wore off a day after the trip... but to this day I can remember and apply some of the vivid rationalizations(two years later) and they've helped me become better.
I usually go through something like this when I do acid or shrooms alone, or have a quiet moment. Most of the time it is just temporary though

Anyone who ignores logic or reason outside of that fed to them can not be a good friend. If they are ignorant, it means they do not care about you, or anything outside their tiny viewpoint. So how in the world would you as a friend have any meaning for them either?

I seriously think I lost brain cells reading your post.
OP, not doing drugs is a conscious choice, just the same is if you chose to do drugs. I choose to do, you don't, and that's fine. I think you should still be able to hang out with your drug using friends even if you aren't on anything. a few of my mates have never smoked weed, but we're still mates even though I'm getting fucked up every night.

Re: Trouble with friends
So you took a trip, and you realised you're not doing enough for the system? What a waste.

Ahhhh the system Maybe his goals dont involve mindless labour to buy a new tv every other year... perhaps he wants to learn and become better. The system does have a use like that.

Re: Trouble with friends
I knew my post would rub a few shoulders, considering the audience. I respect most of the aforementioned opinions, but yet again if someone does drugs (the really bad ones) willingly, and corrodes their body from inside; there is a slim chance they would care about what happens to their friends or friendship.
PS: Navicalist, I would suggest you keep up with your pals, but maintain your resolve to stay away from their offerings.

Re: Trouble with friends
Welcome to maturity, dude. It sucks eh? Realizing that you grew up a lot faster than your friends did.
*sigh*
I kinda miss the good old days of sitting around, smoking myself stupid and playing Mariokart for hours on end. But then again I'm happy that I grew out of it, because now I'm the only one out of that group going to school and potentially doing anything with my life.
Don't throw your friends away. But don't compromise yourself either.

That's retarded.
Anyway, I think it's up to your friends. I can have a blast with my friends even if they're high and I'm not. But some of them are snobby coke heads who wont hang out with me if I'm not getting lit. *cough AutoPilot/prozak_jack cough*

The advice you give sounds like it's out of a fucking "Dear Abby" Christian teen problem newsletter. God, you're so, so gay.
