Something i need to get out.
To begin with: I live in (as you can see in my profile) New York. upstate New York to be exact, not the city. I've known my girlfriend for almost a year and a half now, and we've been going out for a little over half a year. Sounds easy, right? Well, here's the kicker - she lives in Boise. Boise Idaho. Which, for those of you who aren't familiar with the continental united states, is on the other side of the country. 40 hours of driving, if i were to drive without stopping.
So, now you know the background. When we first met, it was over the internet, on a website we both wrote fanfiction for, based around a series of books we both read. one summer, i decided to join this site purely on impulse, and created a character there. more out of sheer boredom then anything else, really, but it doesn't matter. anyway, i started writing in a thread there with a few other authors.
As time went by, my character got "aquianted with" another one of the characters in the story, and we developed a romance-type theme. And then one day i logged in and a message flared up on my screen: "you have one (1) new personal message". So i clicked it, and it turned out to be from one of the other authors i was writing with. from the same person who's character mine had been romancing, to be specific. She introduced herself as Rachael, and told me how old she was and where she lived. she also mentioned that she found my character fascinating, and that she wanted to get to know me better. so i responded, we exchanged screenames, and things started moving.
From the beginning, we would have conversations online that lasted for hours. We talked about anything and everything, and the more i found out about her, the more i wanted to talk to her, and share with her.
Then, my girlfriend at the time dumped me. I was devistated, and had no idea what to do. i slipped into a depressed period of time where alcohol was my only relief. Rachael was away for the week, and i just couldn't talk to my friends about it. i had no one, nothing but alcohol and dreams of what could have been.
She returned from her trip and realized instantly that something was wrong. So i did the only thing i could think of - i spilled everything to her. She listened to my story, my whole story, everything that had happened to me, everything. i bared my heart and soul to her. And then she suprised me, by simply telling me that everything was going to be okay, and that she would always be there for me. always. It was from then on that she helped me through my breakup, helped me to stop abusing alcohol like i had been, and for lack of a better term she single handedly pulled me out of my depression.
We started getting closer and closer after that. It was only a matter of time until we started talking on the phone every night until the morning, i told her how i felt about her, and she told me that she had fallen for me from the very beginning. And for a time, everything was wonderful. sure, there was the fact that we lived across the country from eachother and would almost never be able to see eachother, but this didn't matter. We were in love, and nothing could get between us. All of a sudden, we were saying "i love you" and planning on moving together as soon as we could. everything was comming together, so it seemed.
But just recently, she and i got into something of a fight, and it's been almost a week since we've talked. I have spoken with her best friend, who says that she needs to take some time alone to think about things, and figure out what it really is that she wants. So i'm stuck here, waiting to see if the love of my life is going to give up on our relationship, or if she is going to let me show her how much she really does mean to me. It's been over a week since we had our fight, and since the last time we spoke. so all i can do is wait, and see what happens - if i'll be able to see all of our dreams together come true, or if everything i want out of life will be denied to me. And so, that's the story of how i met the most amazing girl in the world, and of why i'm terrified right now of losing her.

I'm turning 18 in a few months.
But... [cliché "i'm not like everyone else" rant] Both she and i are quite mature about our relationship. There are never any mind games, or any of the bullshit usually associated with highschool relationships. It's part of the reason we worked out so well - we're both relatively clingy, and we were both tired of all the drama and childishness involved with all of the relationships we saw around us.[/cliché "i'm not like everyone" rant]
The fight was about a girl who told me she liked me, and how i handled things. She thinks that i was a bit of an ass to said girl, and maybe i was. but things just snowballed, and before i knew it she wasn't talking to me, and is taking some time to think about things.

So...Does she think you encouraged the girl's affections, or that you were insensitive?
I don't look down on you for being in high school. Hell, I was MARRIED at your age!

Re: Something i need to get out.
Have you actually met her? What if you're completely put-off by what she looks like? Shallowness aside, a relationship won't work out if there's no physical attraction.

There is a physical attraction, and it's both ways, trust me. We're basically one of those sickeningly cute couples, according to her best friend.
Edit: sorry 'bout that, i completely missed your last post.

To be honest, she seemed annoyed at the fact that i was a bit of an ass to this girl. but i have a strong feeling that everything that's happening isn't solely because of this fight... it might be the fact that school just started again. which means everyone is playing tonsil hockey in the hallway with their new boyfiend/girlfriend, while the most she can do is talk to hers over the phone.

Re: Something i need to get out.
I hold to the premise that online/long-distance relationships dont work. There are exceptions, and you may believe you're one of them, but I thought I was too.

But you're not that mature. Think about it, you've had a fight with your girlfriend. You really love her and want to be with her, so instead of calling her and making up for what you've done, you just don't talk to her for a week. For starters, that's needless drama. It's mindgames. It's childish.

How is that even a logical suggestion?
Flight tickets from one side of america to the other can NOT be cheap.
Petrol for 40 hours of driving would make a HUGE impact on some one's wallat.

Yeah, logic and love? Never gonna happen. Can't have you cake and eat it too, man.
That said, though, you should go. NOW.
Mojo is usually right.

Yeah, he should go (it's the obvious answer), but he wont (most likely). Because if it were that easy, wouldn't he have already?
It's sad really.

The reason i'm not talking to her is because she refuses to answer my phone calls, not because i don't want to. I'm getting the "silent treatment", i should have clarified that. Thanks to her best friend, i know that she hasn't given up yet, and she hasn't found another guy... she's just considering if the whole relationship is worth it, apparently.

I have the tickets already, but the earliest i could get a flight was for a 4-day weekend in October. so right now, the only thing i can think of to do is wait...

Re: Something i need to get out.
I have an update on things: today, she called me, and we proceded to have a perfectly normal conversation. As if nothing had even happened. I guess i was wrong, maybe we weren't completely above all these stupid games.
Anyway, we talked about everything but our relationship and our problems, so i called her back just a fw minutes ago, and left a message saying that i missed talking to her, and that i wanted to talk to her about things. was this a good idea, or should i not have called her? i'm kind of lost at this point, and i'll update again after she calls me back.
