The purpose of love.
Now, it's quite clear to me that for the majority of humanity, life is one big fucking series of identity crisis. Nobody knows who the fuck they are, what the fuck they want, etc...so what a good deal of these people do is deify an emotion that is hardly something any sensible being would care for: love. You hear these dipshits all the time, "God is love." "Love is the perfect emotion." "Love conquers all." It's all bullshit, in reality, love is an emotion that is meant to help us find ourselves when we begin to feel it, though it masks ourselves.
The identity crises in our lives are caused by this obscuring of the identity by 'love'. The only thing love conquers is the truth...anybody can be led to believe something if it's warped appropriately to their view of love. Hell, there have been serial killers who believed they were doing a good thing simply because they were guided by 'love'.
Love stops us from knowing who we really are; without love, we see what we do in our lives for what it really is: selfish actions with no specific goal. Without love, you realize that holding the door for a lady is a subconscious attempt to get some fucking pussy...with love, you think it's some honorable conditioning you've found through love. Love is delusion.
Humans are a terrible group of creatures; we backstab, lie, cheat, steal, hate, murder...all for the LOVE of something. Other animals...they're just driven on pure instinct, we're the only species that actively deludes ourselves into thinking we're moral when we have no set morals and not even the slightest bit of willpower to hold onto our 'morality.'
But there will be no awakening in society in which we see ourselves for who we are...who in their right mind would care to know how selfish and hateful they really are when they can just pretend that they are acting for the love of their family? Or their love of God? Or even money? I sure as hell would have preferred the delusion, but it's too late now. Being happy by yourself destroys your need for love, and eventually destroys the illusion you have of yourself.

Re: The purpose of love.
On one level, you are assuming that just because love can deceive, it always does. There is no logical reason to assume that.
On a deeper level, you assume that realizing that love can deceive will save you from that fate. Sorry to inform you that it is just a matter of time for you just like everyone else.

Re: The purpose of love.
too long, didnt read.
love was created by hallmark and is subsidized by the US government to advance capitalism at the end of the fiscal year. when you feel "love", its just a chemical imbalance. It is biochemically no different than eating large amounts of chocolate.

Re: The purpose of love.
Stop perceiving "love" as a state of divinity. People like to orbit around things that they believe to be important to their exhistance.
The more important they believe it to be, the more it becomes their center of gravity. When it becomes the only thing they rotate around it then can be called an obsession/addiction etc.

Re: The purpose of love.
Hehe, I posted that because a friend requested I did. I agree with some of it...especially about life being a series of identity crises and that deep down we're all quite twisted, but I disagree that love's primary purpose is to delude ourselves...any emotion has the power to delude, not love in specific. And the dude isn't full of teen angst, he's just a cynical motherfucker.

How does love mask ourselves?

Just to clarify...do you mean that love obscures 'truth'? [as in the creating of an illusion?]
quote:anybody can be led to believe something if it's warped appropriately to their view of love.
This is something that I have been pondering myself. Does love have a 'standard' in expression?
quote:Love stops us from knowing who we really are; without love, we see what we do in our lives for what it really is: selfish actions with no specific goal.
So are you saying that without love we may begin to see what our true motivations behind our actions are?
quote:Humans are a terrible group of creatures; we backstab, lie, cheat, steal, hate, murder...all for the LOVE of something. Other animals...they're just driven on pure instinct, we're the only species that actively deludes ourselves into thinking we're moral when we have no set morals and not even the slightest bit of willpower to hold onto our 'morality.'
Don't other animals kill others of their species over physical wants and needs? Isn't morality based upon social standards, for the most part? I'm unsure of the connection between love and morality.
quote: But there will be no awakening in society in which we see ourselves for who we are...who in their right mind would care to know how selfish and hateful they really are when they can just pretend that they are acting for the love of their family? Hmm, I dunno but I would think that being happy by and in yourself you have acheived complete autonomy and would have no further need of anything from anyone else. So, if that would be the case then maybe one is ready and able to fully love then?

Except that I figured out how to format all that.

Re: The purpose of love.
I can ask them to get back to me when they're out of school...all my friends are off to college while I'm sitting here working off a debt to my parents before they'll send me to college.
