Age Difference
Okay here is the deal. I am 15. My boyfriend is 18 and he will be 19 at the end of October. My parents are making a huge deal of everything. They are saying that I can't see him again. I was just wondering what everyone else thought on the matter. Is it age a big deal?

Re: Age Difference
Shit. Are you me? Actually, you couldn't be because my dude turns 19 at the beginning of October. Only my parents don't know about him and he doesn't live in the same state and he's not my boyfriend. ...okay, so sort of a lack of similarities, but the age difference is the same. Yeah, you should expect your parents to not be super glad that you're in an illegal relationship, but that's why you shouldn't have told them. Live and learn. Next time lie

Re: Age Difference
If you like him, then why the hell not? If your parents are bitching just because of his AGE, thats dumb.
But if he's like a serial rapist or something, and their bitching about him... thats different.

Re: Age Difference
Theres nothing actually WRONG with it - 4 years isnt that much of a difference. My 21 year old cousin is dating a 13 year old - THAT is an age difference.
What you need to do is sit down with your parents and really talk to them about this - ask them what their worries about the situation are and try to sort them out. Find out from them why they think it is wrong and what you can do for them (besides breaking up) that could reassure them.
This method can be very affective, as long as you remain casual but professional - if they tell you something you dont like the sound of, then dont get mad at them and yell at them, try to find a way round their comment.
As for my thoughts on the matter, I dont really see age difference as that much of a big deal, unless there is more than a 9 year gap between the people involved. Your parents are making a huge deal out of it because they care about you - never forget that. Just talk to them and try to make them understand what you feel.
Good luck!

Re: Age Difference
The importance of the age difference decreases as you grow older. I have no room to talk, I have been involved with a man who was 28 years older than me, but hey, 15 to 19, though it's only 4 years, is illegal. Kinda sucks, but it's true. If you keep going out with this guy despite what your parents say, and your parents really want to get at him, they could just have him arrested. You're in a delicate situation, you have to be really careful.
If you are mature enough to date a 19 year old guy, I'd like to think you're mature enough to sit down with your parents and attempt to reason without the "But Mommmm!" shit, and maybe you'll get somewhere?! Just talk to them flat out and tell them why you are mature enough to make your own decisions about relationships. The only reason they are keeping you out of it is because they want to shelter you from getting hurt.
Worst come to worst, if you really love this guy, is 3 years that long to wait.

Four years is a big age difference when it comes to teenagers. There's a bigger maturity gap between a 19 and a 15 year old than there is between a 21 and a 25 year old. I don't know the poster of this thread or her boyfriend, so I can't say for sure, but if I had to make a guess I'd say he was in it just to get a piece of ass. As a 19 year old guy, I talked to 15 year old girls sometimes and I could barely stand it because they were so immature. But would I have fucked some of them? Sure.

Re: Age Difference
Parents are usually going to have issues with what they see as an "adult" dating their teenage daughter.
Check the laws in your country/state. If your parents decide to play hardball, they might try to go through legal channels.

My girlfriend is 16 and I'm 18. Nobody seems to have a problem with the age difference, not even her parents. Her parents love me, I get along better with them than I do my own parents.
When I first started going out with her I thought the age would be a big deal with our friends(we have alot of the same friends)but it turned out I was the only one making a big deal about it.
