Proposal
Okay, heres the deal.
I'm 17 and graduated high school a year early and I'm leaving for the military in October. I've been with my girlfriend for 4 years and in that time alot has happened, you may remember my post awhile back about it being her birthday and I wanted to do somthing special. Yes I did try what Gustave told me to do and it worked pretty damn good I must say. But while I was up there with her we got to talking.
We talked about me leaving for boot camp in October, and me being in active duty would only allow me to see her like twice a year. So yeah that was kind of a big deal.
The next night while I was by myself I then got to thinking that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this girl and there is nothing that would make me happier than to marry her.
I know what your thinking, your only 17 shut the fuck up and enjoy it, well, the next four years are going to be spent overseas, and after that I'm going to college, why the hell shouldn't I do it? That's what went through my head. So I figured to hell with it and I started making plans for how I would do it.
And heres how
Ya know how girls always carry alot of gum in their purse? I figured I would take advantage of that. I took a pack of gum took four pieces out and wrote four little poems on each wrapper, one symbolizing every year we've been together, and then on the fifth it said "Will you marry me?" I then took her out to dinner and knowing she would go to the bathroom eventually I waited, she did leave and I then proceeded to put the pack of gum in there and take out the rest she had in there and when she came back I asked her for a piece of gum, as she read the wrapper I would repeat the poem softly to her. And at the end as she was reading the fifth I got on one knee and asked her "Will you marry me?"
Well fortunatly she said yes, which made me pretty damn happy, her parents are 100% behind us along with my parents, but unfortuantly we're going to have an extended engagment period and it's going to wait until after I get out of the military.
I just wanted to let all of you know that Gustave's goofy ass was the reason for me proposing and it went over pretty good.

Re: Proposal
Huh? What? I though you just got together with this girl, with a lot of drama involved? Didn't you post a thread about it? She was a friend of a female friend who liked you? Am I thinking of someone else?

No Cindy me and this girl had a short break up and I did not include that in my little question/story.

Re: Proposal
that story made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I like the part where it all works without her, like, throwing out the gum or something.
awsome story. congrats.

Re: Proposal
What would've happened if she had pulled out the last piece of gum first, the one that said "will you marry me?" or pulled out the 2nd or 3rd and you said the wrong poem? What if she hadnt looked at the wrapper? What if she had found the gum and gone "wtf...this isnt my gum". So many things could've gone wrong with this plan...

Re: Proposal
Yeah, but they didn't, so it's happily ever after.
It definitely wouldn't work with me. I'd ask for a piece of gum and get the whole pack thrown at my head.

Re: Proposal
Wow, that's great man. Like said before normally at that age I would be wtf are you nuts, but giving the situation and all I think it will work.
What branch of the military are you going into? And you will need to change the ocupation in your profile from student to soldier.
Good luck man, and try not to get shot.

Re: Proposal
I wish my boyfriend/fiance had asked me in a way better than he did, it was SO LAME. The ring was his grandmothers and it's about 65 years ol and his mom had it and he hadn't put much thought into this obviously because the ring wasn't sized or cleaned. Well one night we were driving home from a friend's house and he was like, "uh.do you want to get married?" and I was like yeah I guess, because after having our kid our families had been pressuring us. So then we go home and he gets the ring and shows me and then the nextday he takes it to the jeweler and gets it cleaned and sized (it is very pretty though) and then he hands the box to me and he's like here's your ring. What yall gotta say about that? Pretty stupid huh? If only I hadn't had his kid, geez that is a major regret, but it was not like it was planned or anything, but it has fucked up our relationship kinda we can't do shit, etc etc all the downs that come with it. At least you did it in a great way and she'll always remember it, hell I try to forget my "proposal" that was actually not a proposal.

Didn't put much though into it, I'd say that what he did qualifies for no thought. Sounds like an out of the blue, unthought through thing.
