From my experiences wearing nice clothes is certainly a pro in attracting the opposite sex. I'd admit im a consumer of all the designer stuff, I like to dress snappy but I can certainly see when something is worth it and when it's not. I definately don't go for clothing with the label emblazoned all over it. I am a firm beleiver that you get what in pay for, in most cases. (I'm not trying to come off arrogant here )

I'd admit that there are a minority where clothing is not an issue and does not carry much weight when attracting the oposite sex. However, for alot of people dressing snappy does build confidence.

EDIT: From a first sight perspective girls who are well dressed are more attractive.

Any comments?

a girl who dresses like a slut vs. a girl who dresses nicely. They both at the same time can look good. It just depends on your taste to girls, i guess. Every one has their own taste, each to their own. Every girl or woman has some thing, not matter how they dress, some thing that appeals to another person.

It also depends on how much alcohol one has consumed.

Kidding aside, I was after personal opinions.

Clothes act as a messenger for your personality to a certain extent. I personally like to dress Banana Republic, Expressmen, and DKNY. But more importantly, it just comes down to your body and how attractive you look. Clothes only enhance it.

Some women ,ussually hot women are very much interested in guys who dress well.

Ive been out with girls in stylish clobber with a girl rubbing my thighs and if i wore something different she would steer clear.

Definatly id say most hot women want guys who are well dressed.

Yes stylish clothing brings confidence but im confident in many styles and girls steer clear away from many consevative or alternative styles ive worn only to be all over me in something trendy.

I prefer girls who like my dancing and attitude more than my clothes.

I think the important thing is that a person wears clothes that are flattering, free of stains, holes and rips and fit well. Insecure people let brand names and labels speak for them.

When I see someone swathed head-to-toe in trademarked clothing of a particular store or label, the first thing I think is "sheep". If I'm bored I'll also consider that person to be a poor decision maker with bad financial priorities and no sense of self.

I'm more impressed by people who can put together something that looks sharp, even if the pieces came from a thrift store and Wal-Mart.

Then again, most of my clothes come from the Gap, simply because they're plain and inexpensive. I tend to wear the same thing all the time, much like Einstein did.

Inexpensive? Like hell they are!

::EDIT:: Sorry cindy... My bad, forgot you were a chick.

Are the chick gap clothes cheaper then the dude clothes? Maybe I should start wearing those. I am kinda short on mulah.

Oh, let me clarify...I shop the clearance rack at the Gap. And funny, it always seems to me that the guys' stuff is cheaper.

If you're an easy size, this is where to find the best deals. I rarely pay more than $10 for jeans/pants (that were $48-$68) and $5 for tops (originally $25-$40). Gap.com also has decent clearance stuff. Then again, I'm old, so up-to-the-minute styles aren't that important to me.

I wear Old Navy painter's jeans, they're comfortable, and durable. I get them just slightly oversized so they have a nice loose fit. They aren't overpriced, and they last long.

For shirts, I buy generic shirts. I wear small shirts, as I like wearing shirts that are somewhat tight fitting. Baggy, oversize clothes just aren't my thing.

I'm not much of a fan of free brand advertising. All of the shirts that I wear are devoid of any brand name logos on the outside.

cindy, you should check out a gap outlet if you live anywhere near outlet malls (i live in florida, and florida is like the outlet mall capital of the world). Going there is like a field day. It's like the Gap clearance rack only an entire store. Almost heaven to someone who loves the gap. Of course it's all "last season" (god forbid!) but the deals are great.

When it comes to girls, I think that the current trend in nice clothes is terrifying. Girls wearing tight low rise pants and shorter shirts... sounds cute and all, but girls have this thing about liking wearing small sizes, and then they wear a size that's too small, so even the size 2 girl looks like she has gibblets hanging out in the space between the low rise and the shirt. It's horrific. But that's just me.

Guy's clothes are totally different though. I like a guy who wears the old t shirts that he's collected free or cheaply throughout the years from concerts, sports events, etc. It's just nice, and means they know how to budget rather than wasting money on the latest pair of 80$ express for men jeans (though they undboubtedly look georgeous, its just not worth it!)

I wear the most beat up clothes. I look like a bum sometimes.

I have more shirts/pants that have rips in them then I have ones that don't. I wear a benie I've had for over a year, and it has two huge holes in the back from where my fingers go when I adjust it, as well as a hole at the very top.

All my pants are ripped at the bottom, some have holes in the crotch, and some of the shirts I own I've had over 8 years. My socks are stained, and almost everything I wear is faded. A lot of my shirts have paint on them, and some are just covered with it.

But my girlfriends never complained. I mean, if she did, I wouldn't mind going out and getting new clothes. I've gone on countless dates with ripped and painted outfits. I suppose its not what you have on, but what you can do when its all off.

^ from a true punk.

I used to wear ripped everything with paint all over (I'm a painter), but since the last few years, I usually only wear Dickies from Kohls*sp, and long sleeved button down shirts. I guess, I try to make myself look "representable". And that way, if I have to go to something where I'm supposed to "dress up", I already am. and my girlfriend says that buttondown shirts are "hot"

heh

Ah, I usually don't shop at the Gap, though I really have only bought jeans and a shirt or two there. I guess the reason I thought it was a horrid price is because I had to buy it from the store at the airport. Dumbass me, I forgot to put pants in except for a nice pair of slacks.

Chicks like guys who dress smart because then they know they have money which leads to the inevitable screwing the money out of the guy. I know no such thing as smart dress. The most expensive piece of clothing i own is a pair of £25 fucked up levi's. most of my clothing comes from "thrift" stores as you yanks call em or its band merchandise from shows. I even wear this to clubs in London, which usually have severe dress codes. They usually fine with it, and i usually fine with hooking up with chicks, even though im totally underage to be there. In short, clothes dont make the man, the man makes himself.
