Default Not really about S&A so much

but this is the relationship forum, so I think it would fit better here than anywhere else. Basically, is it ok to be friends with people who hold little interest for you so you can improve your social life?

Is it ok? Uh, we can't tell you if it's ok. That's up to you, and your own morals. For me, though, it wouldn't be ok. I'd just stop hanging out with them. For you, though, social value might be more highly valued than personal satisfaction with a relationship.

What do you mean by "ok"?

It's bad for your self-esteem, for one thing. Depending on someone else to elevate your social status belittles your own ability to do so.

Rather than putting efforts on maintaining superficial "friendships", why not do something worthy of merit on your own?

Whatever works, I say.

If you can manage to keep your, most probably low-key, friends while still maintaining this facade of importance then it's all good. There's nothing wrong with stealing a little mojo from those more fortunate.

Honestly, I think all of us have had someone who could fit that description in our lives at some point. "Someone who holds little interest but can help improve your social life."

For me, that person was in high school. (Which is where I assume you are. Either that or middle school.) And dumb as it may be, social status is important in high school. The question you have to ask yourself here is not if it's okay, but rather, is it actually that important?

I did this for a few weeks. I hung around this person, went out with her, did stuff... until I got busted by my parents. I got grounded, of course, had to ride the bus to school insted of driving my car. It sucked. Plus there was the fact that my grades had slipped due to lack of interest. I finally figured out that it wasn't worth it. I had good friends to begin with. I didn't need the extra hassle.

Basically what I'm saying here is, yeah it's okay, for a time. But I wouldn't make a habit of it. Priorities, my friend. What are yours?

Getting busted by my parents and/or grades slipping is not going to happen as these people don't do any drugs (i do weed and shrrooms) and drink less than I do, as well as being some of the cleverest people in my school ( mostly about as clever as me, some more, some less).

We weren't doing drugs or drinking either. (I was a great kid until I left highschool.)

It was more of a... being places they didn't want me to be thing. Like... we go to clubs and stuff, and my parents are extremely against that.

"What if you get slipped a mickey and RAAaaaAAAAaaaaaAAAAPED?!?!"

That kind of thing.
