breaking up before college...
everyone i've talked to (who's older) has said that i should see what else is out there. and i think i agree. we're going to be 8 hours away from each other and i don't think long distance things work, right?
but my boyfriend HATES the idea and doesn't think it has any ground at all. (the way i interpreted it) he thinks we can stay together just fine when we don't see each other.
i guess all i want to know is if anyone has had experience with breaking up before college... or anything else big i guess. i'm just not sure if i'll regret it...

Re: breaking up before college...
If you already know that you want to know what else is out there, theres no need to let yourself be held back from possible happiness due to fear. Breaking up is always a risk.
Only YOU can decide if holding on to the relationship is worth it.
And just so ya know, tomorrow I'm moving for college almost all the way across the US to a town where I don't know anyone at all. This should be fun.

Re: breaking up before college...
I'm going to college in Texas (Lamar U. in Beaumont), a state to which I've never been. I live in Virginia (lived there 14 years, moved to Germany for 3 years, where I met my girlfriend last year, and returned a few weeks ago). My girlfriend lives in North Carolina. We're going to keep it going, I mean, I'm sure I'll end up hooking up quite a bit, and I wouldn't mind if she did the same, all that I care is that when I return, she's mine, and vice-versa.
It's going to be a growing experience.

Re: breaking up before college...
Stay together if you really want to. Or break up if you really want to. Simple.
This is an important time of life transition for you. What's the point of staying together? Plan on getting married? If you two were really that serious then you should have planned to go to the same college together. Or if he's not planning on college, then he should move with you anyways. Or if he has a good job, then you could have settled for a college closer to home and get married right away.
Sound ridiculous? In a way, it is. Who, at (I'm assuming) ages 18-20 is ready for that? There's a whole world to explore out there. Or, at the very least, college life.
So I ask again: What's the point of staying together? It could be co-dependence, insecurity, or fear of being alone. None of which are really good reasons to stay together.

FYI: maybey you really like that person and see yourself spending a long long time with them. (Pssssh codependancy is NEVER a good reason :P)
How's about this?
Movie into an appartment togeather and go to seprate colleges?
(I'm speaking hypathetically, not about this situation...)
Think that could work?
I mean if you're serious enough to wanna stay togeather, but don't wanna get married yet, I think it's a good option...

Yeah, they could live in an apartment together.......... it could be at the halfway point between the two... so she has a 4 hour drive every morning

^^^^
Well I was saying in gerneral. That would only work if both people were going to college in the same area.

Re: breaking up before college...
I'm the boyfriend she wants to breakup with.
The way I see it, I don't want to go out with anyone else besides tink. I can't see that changing. If it ever changes, well then we can break up.
There's the short answer.

That's pretty rough.. with all that stuff said above I'd be feeling pretty down.
I'm going to have to explain this to you in the best way possible. She doesn't want to continue with it. She's not ready for that kind of comittment and if you can't realize that then you're in trouble.
You can't force someone to stay in the same relationship just because it's what you want. It's unfair and it'll damage the both of you.
At the minute, you seem obsessive, posessive and that really isn't healthy. You're gonna end up heart broken if you don't wake up and deal with it.
The saying goes "If you love her, you will let her go." Try following it man.
Put it this way, in college you may end up meeting someone and if it doesn't, then you'll have gained life experience to try and woo her back. If she meets someone she cares about more, then it was not to be.
Things have a way of working themselves out.

Re: breaking up before college...
Some people can't stand the thought of being away from their significant other. I was in a relationship, and on Wednesday night I got dumped because 1) she didn't have enough time and 2) I'm going away to university and will be 5 hours away. Anyways.........do whatever you need to do cause only you know what that is.
Why are you a Korn hater, KornHater87?
