Getting Mixed Messages
Let me start this post off by saying I have a strange love for Mexican girls. It's probably unhealthy but what isn't. I work at a fast food place in California so needless to say that half the employees are Mexicans but for the life of me I haven't seen a good looking one. Well about a month ago I started working nights instead of mornings and met this very cute girl.
I catch her looking at me all the time. We flirt with eachother all the time. Last weekend I decided it was time to ask her out. A friend of mine was taking a girl bowling, he said I should go with and do a little double date type thing. So I asked this girl, and she said something along the lines of "I don't really like going to those kinds of places."
Needless to say I am a bit confused now. I'm wondering if I should just give up on the whole thing or maybe ask her to do something else. I know that she is pretty hardcore Catholic, and she just broke up with her boyfriend like 2 weeks ago.
Maybe I need a female's perspective on this. Could it be that she really doesn't like going to those kind of places? Or was it just an excuse? Thanks for whatever advice you can give.

Re: Getting Mixed Messages
What does she mean "those kinds of places"? Does she just not like bowling? Is she afraid of looking foolish? Does she associate bowling with lowlifes? Does she think you're being cheap? Bowling ain't all that cheap. Would she be equally opposed to miniature golf? This needs to be clarified.
She may also have issues with double dating. She may also have "standards" as to what a date should be, and expects you to take her to a swank restaurant and out to the opera.
Or just suggest a movie outing.

Re: Getting Mixed Messages
Yeah I'm thinking about just asking her out to dinner. I really am just as confused as you about what she said, but the local bowling alley is kindof a shady place, lots of the punk ruffian kids hang out there and runamuck.

Re: Getting Mixed Messages
You know she could be racist... I dunno how they handle it in California, but in St. Louis the majority of blacks only date blacks, and whites only date whites. Perhaps she isn't flat out racist, but wouldn't enjoy spending a night with only people who aren't mexicans...
That is really one of the best questions ever though, "Is it an excuse or really a reason?" I can't help but think it everytime I hear "I just started seeing someone." Good luck on the chick man...

Re: Getting Mixed Messages
^ that's true, she may not be racist, just a little afraid to date outside her normal ethnic group.
Also she may be a little shy to go on a double date. How well does she know you? how much have you two talked? Next time you're talking/flirting with her, why not suggest going at that time, somewhere nearby for a coffee to sit and talk, so she doesn't feel like it's a formal date.
PS cool sn Retrovertigo!
