Default Aut viam inveniam aut faciam

Or "I'll either find a way or make one". This is tattooed on my left shoulder, in tasteful, basic, small writing; I didn't want to get all elaborate and calligraphic and shit. It almost looks like a prison tattoo, but so what. I got it as a sort of self-encouragement thing about mid-April.

Anyway, the point of this thread isn't about MY tattoos, but about tattoos in general: How do you feel about them, in terms of their attractiveness/ugliness? Does a well-placed tattoo on a woman turn you on, or make you think "ho!"? Do you think it's a destructive thing to do to one's body, or do you think it's a creative expression, not to mention a sexually-charged expression, if that's what one chooses?

I for one feel a tattoo on a woman, IF done right, can be very sexual: You-know-who had a small, tasteful tribalesque one that, though hard to describe, left a few little lines and curls which I would frequently trace with my fingertips (or tongue, sometimes) during foreplay or whatnot. It was on the small of her back, which I do usually consider trashy, only she never wore clothes that revealed it (except on the beach or something, but that's inevitable), claiming that it was "For us". Anyway, I digress: I feel that those tattooed-on ankle bracelet-looking tattoos are trashy, along with roses on the ankles, butterflies on the arms, etc. I know I'm sounding like a jerk, but basically, I'm picky about tattoos on women. As for guys, I think anything bigger than about the space on the upper arm is stupid. There are a FEW exceptions to this, one of them being Val Kilmer's back tattoo (http://www.moviegoods.com/Assets/product_images/1020/152369.1020.A.jpg) in "The Salton Sea". That kicked ass. Also, the people who get those bigass "body murals" are cool to look at, but I don't think I'd go that route if someone paid me.

So, how do you feel about tattoos and their relevance to sex, or to attractiveness of the opposite sex? Remember, I'm talking in general here; don't go rating my tattoos. I already axed my "how do I look/what should I fix?" thread for good reason. Got any tattoos which are sexually relevant? This thread is a bit esoteric, but I just thought of it because I'm also considering another one, on the upper right arm (Either another good Latin saying, or possibly the DSOTM prism design, or "The Wall" album cover: That is, a few "bricks" in the wall, with the kickass "Pink Floyd The Wall" script in the middle. Normally I wouldn't do band tattoos, but 'Floyd, and most specifically The Wall, have special lifetime relevance to me), and I guess I just got curious. Thanks in advance for any contributions. Flame away if you want, since I'm a Spanish hillbilly/ugly tweaker/long-haired freak, etc, and now, with a tattoo! OMG! Dumbasses (flamers).

Yeah. Post away.

-Bleedthrough/IR

PS: I also have a small NIN logo hidden away on my left hand, done in high school with a sewing needle and ink...Durn fool kids. Heheh. I'm keeping it, though; it's a reminder of good times past. And NIN kicks ass anyway; they're the modern, angrier equivalent of Pink Floyd, to me.

Heh, I used to feel pretty much the same. I got real reluctant about her getting one in the past, and I'll likely be the same in the future. As for me; I hate pretty much all of them. The only exception I made was for the Latin motto, which is really small, anyway. The NIN logo doesn't count; dumb teen thing, as I said. The Latin one is easy to cover up even with a band-aid if needed. The NIN logo too; it can be covered by one of those spot band-aids.

Oh, and jewelry's another matter; I don't mind some jewelry on a gal, but on me, I'm particular. I always have on a nice watch, but that's because I care about the time. Furthest I'll go from there is a low-key necklace (The one in my pictures wasn't low-key, hence why I don't wear it now).

I don't really like tats on girls as they can really easily look trashy, unless they are original.

On guys I don't like them so much because the ones I always see are ones at the gym from a guy who wants to look hard, in 30 years he'll look a damn fool.

But I'd never personally get one anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.

If I were going to get a tattoo I’d get this one: http://home.earthlink.net/~markstewart/DuskPage.tattoo.html.

But I could never get a tattoo, I’m slightly obsessive compulsive and if there was even the slightest thing wrong with it, it would drive me around the bend, I’d be clawing at it till my flesh fell off.

I like tattoos. On men, I don't care where they are and what they are of, it's their body. Of course, I'll have an opinion of the tat itself but I've realized the more you're "with" someone with a tattoo the more it just becomes a part of them.

My friend inked "HOTBOY" on his inner forearm a couple of years ago. He did it with a needle and each letter is about an inch and a half long. I remember when I first met him I thought it was so stupid and ugly. (It DOES look horrible.) But since then, I've come to accept it as part of his skin. I don't even consciously see it anymore. The point is, all tattoos will get a first judgement from me. If I see you on the street, that opinion doesn't matter and if we become friends, it fades.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't think ANY tattoos are trashy. Of course, I'm more than a toe in the body mod pool. I'm pretty accepting of all types of mods be it piercings, ink, cuttings, brandings, implants. They all serve the purpose of expression in one way or another.

I'm planning a backpiece right now. It's all drawn out and my artist is waiting for me to get the money. It's going to be about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide. Kind of big? Yes. But I've wanted the same tattoo for the past 4 years and it's overflowing with meaning.

Short description: A sexy angel with over-sized wings and vampire teeth. Behind her is tribal-looking vines with sunflowers. The entire piece has a diamond shape to it. The vines taper off really thin towards the sides. So it's not 60 square inches of ink.

Anyway, my last boyfriend thought the idea was sexy. He was quite fond of my back and thought ink would compliment it well.

I think a well done, rather large backpiece (up towards the shoulders) is the only tattoo that would strike me as "sexy" on a man. Or maybe on the back of his neck. Those places strike me as sexy anyway, a tattoo would go nicely there.

I don't mind tattoo's I have one on my shoulder blade, I feel it's a form of personal self expression.

I don't find anything sexual or trashy about tatt's, it's body art and whether someone wants just one or ten then so be it.

If that's an adequate form of self expression to someone then there's nothing wrong with it.

What I have a problem with is people who indulge in tattooing because they think its cool, or they seen someone who has one that they like.

Tattoos and any other kind of body modification are a complete turn-off for me. I don't get it; I even flinch a little at ear piercings. Your body was good enough the way it started, why not just leave it like that?

Conclusion: Tattoos and piercings are ugly.

I have no tattoo's yet, but I plan on getting this (http://www.grif.lv/img/products/512l.jpg) done in black, inverted, bellow the back of my neck sort of between my shoulder blades.

My opinions on tattoos vary from person to person. I've never liked overly elaborate tats until I saw the sleeves my friend has done. They are the most amazing, intricate and meaningful tattoos I've ever seen and they spread from is knuckles to his shoulders and even on to his back. But other than him, I've never seen sleeves that I like. Same with girls. Some look trashy and stupid, and some work.

edit: so as to not hijack your thread, i should probably talk about the topic at hand. girls with tats are ok. as long as they dont go overboard with them, like biker women. i like the tat at the samll of the back idea. i always find that intrigueing. midsized tattoos on a girls stomache are nice too. the ass is sort of a difficult place, it has to be a good piece of art.

most tattoos on girls are disgusting, and most tattoos guys get are fucking lame.

The thing I personally can't stand is the generic tattoo like a butterfly or something you saw in the shop window on your way by...or something from a movie.

If I do decide to get a tat I'm drawing it myself and it's going on my right shoulder blade.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of rockabilly/sailor tattoos, but to each his own.

I like tattoos that come from the heart. I think tribal designs are a little played out, but I like stark, minimalist black and white compositions. They tend to age well, while hyperdetailed ones just like like a blur over time.

As far as piercings go, I'm not a huge fan of eyebrow rings. They just look flimsy, like they could be ripped out at any time. I admit I have a weakness for overtly sexual piercings like the middle of the lower lip and tongue. Genital piercings are okay as long as they're well cared for. I tend to think that less is more. I used to have 8 earrings in ear ear, and I think they look better now that I just have two large-ish guage ones each. A few carefully placed amendmants to the flesh look better than a lot placed haphazardly.

Tattoos can be very sexy if done right, because they tell you something about the bearer. If they were self-designed and chosen with a lot of care, they can be an insight into the very heart of someone. It's a form of nonverbal communication. You can tell about what they like, where they're from, their overall view on life without even speaking a word. Asking someone about their tattoo is a great conversation starter, so it makes it easier to talk to people.

And if it's a directly-off-the-wall tattoo they got while they were drunk, you'll know that they're impulsive and make bad decisions. Which can work in your favor.

p.s. Bleedthrough, have you actually seen The Salton Sea? If so, was it good? I haven't seen that one or Spun. They both look intriguing (despite me not being a huge Kilmer fan), but part of me can't help but think, "Fuck, I lived it, why watch it on a screen?"

Schraff: Spun sucked; as a general rule, any movie containing John Leguizamo is guaranteed to suck. Salton Sea was great. Disturbing. Go watch it.

Self-Destruct: I refrain from getting into flamewars with you because you're a NIN fan. Sure, I've thrown some shit your way before, but I stop at a point. You like NIN, presumably for reasons other than "Closer", so you can't be all bad. We should give neutrality a shot. It feels like being hated by a Pink Floyd fan. And yes, damnit, I know NIN is one person - however, onstage, there's five, as I'm sure you know, because I'm sure you've watched AATCHB: NIN Live.

He couldn't believe how easy it was.

Thanks for the input people. Bicep sized seems like a good size since it could be covered up fairly easy no matter where it is..(except maybe the face).

quote:Are you getting it just for yourself or so it looks cool on you for other people to see or both.

For myself, though if it looked good to others I wouldn't mind at all. (so I guess a little of both)

I've loved dragons since second grade, for some reason they hold special meaning to me.

I've been thinking about one for awhile, and even went with a friend while he got his. I saw a few good ones, but nothing signifigant enough for ME hehe. I plan to draw out what I want myself (I'm a sucky artist, but putting the effort in to make it look good is definately worth it in cases like this)

Kind of funny, I opened an old pic folder from when I Was looking for inspirational dragon pics and it has 237 pics in it.

edit: Just wanted to post this here instead of in my own thread, no point in encouraging multiple same-topic threads.

I don't mind tattoos and piercings, but only in moderation. I think plugs in ears up to any size are cool, but when someone's face is covered in metal it's a bit much. I've got a 12 gauge vertical labret/lip (depends on whether I wear the ring or the barbell) and I'm thinking about getting 2 more on my lip, but that's where I'd stop. I also fully intend on getting a tattoo on my back inbetween my shoulder blades of that symbol from Vagrant Story.

What can I say I am very self-conscious. Personally I am in love with horses. Work with them every wednesday (god damn that is a weird looking word), and have for about the past 5 years. To be specific, I help disabled kids ride horses, so it's not really that I like riding horses, just being around them... but back on topic. I'm a horrible artist but I can draw a horse. Well I drew up a couple pictures and dun really like a plain horse (not running or bucking or anything like that) and started messing around by merging their back half with elements (like fire, or a water drop, or one was like a genie mist coming out of a bottle). In the end I decided not to get it done because I was worried that people might think it's a little homosexual to have a flaming horse on you... but now I am thinking about it again.

What is that?

I have a hard time seeing tattoos on women as sexy. I really think the unmarked female body is about as sexy as sexy can get.

As for me, if I got a tattoo it'd be an inverted Celtic cross on my left shoulder.
