Default It really is possible to be both manly and not an asshole

...I think. Here's my points:

1. To be strong (not necessarily physically), you don't have to be an asshole. You know that feeling of euphoria you get when you split a bunch of logs? People can sense that.

2. Be a brick wall, not a cavalry charge. Bitchy people = cavalry, brick wall= absorbs charge, moves on.

3. Love your fellow man, just don't stick your cock up his ass, as Father Harry Milksack said. Being very good friends - "close" or "intimate" friends even - is a rewarding experience, and it's not gay either.

I might add more on later as I think of them.

Oh, you can, but then the assholes of the world call you a pussy, and the pussies of the world call you an asshole.

No respect...

personally, i think that to TRULY be "manly" (and whatever that entails...great sex life, getting women, being macho etc etc) you CAN'T be an asshole. i mean, the only way you are going to get what you want is by contributing...i mean, NO woman who's not majorly tripping/drunk/a K Street ho is gonna say what you want them to say if you go in there like "Bitch, go out with me now then blow me" its just not gonna happen, get over it. believe it or not...if guys took notes from chick flicks, they would get the most. why the fuck do you think girls love chick fliks so much?! cuz the guy makes them feel special, and they're not faking it...why do players get all the action?! cuz they know what to say to make a girl feel appreciated. now whether you mean what you say or not is a different story-

but seriously, guys should consider this a wake-up call(if they haven't already figured it out) that if you go into a date feeling that YOU are the more powerful one, and consequently dont pay attention to/care about what the girl is thinking/feeling/saying...you're not gonna get ANY. testosterone poisoning doesn't accomplish anything...

I assume this is was brought on the by the "get all the women you want" thread. The defenition of asshole pertaining to that thread, is not the true definition of asshole. What your describing is the "Alpha Male". Google it and youll find some shit that will interest you.

Nigrophile, how many threads do we have here with boys asking why girls don't like them? They describe themselves as respectful, nice, and polite and yet they still can't get girls. They most often use the phrase, "Nice guys finish last".

It's because young girls do not appreciate that. Girls are (for the most part) attracted to confident guys. And usually, confidence at a young age means being pompous as well. Girls will always fall for the assholes.

Why do you think we have so many threads with girls talking about being treated like shit? They don't understand the psychology of relationships yet. They may say they want a sweet guy but be the first to snub him when he comes along.

As far as taking dating advice from movies... good luck.

That being said, yes, you can be manly without being an asshole but the ease of it only comes after you've matured. I'd think "manly" men are more common among older guys than younger just because they've already been through the asshole motions and realize how fruitless it is.

The best example of a manly man I've seen lately: The Surreal Life, season 2. Eric Estrada. I know what you're thinking, "The guy from Chips"?! Hehe, yeah, that's him. But who he is in REAL life comes out in this show and he demonstrates over and over again that you can be a man and NOT be an asshole.

Yes it is possible. I think the key is finding the area between being strong when you need to without being unneccesarily mean.

I also think alot of women see a guy who is full of themselves or overly cocky and mistake that for them having lots of confidence.

That, as well as the rest of your post, is probably the smartest way I've seen this idea expressed here. When I suggest this, I sound like an old lady calling the kids a bunch of naive no-goodnicks.

Yixil, what is your definition of "asshole"?

Jockish people, those who try to look confident by being pompous.

What most people in this thread have assumed I meant.

Edit: That wasn't meant to be an angry, bitchy, "god don't you know what an asshole is?" thing.

Actually, that's why I asked, because people seemed to be assuming different things. Your definition isn't what first came to my mind; I would call those guys "average teenagers" with an emphasis on "average".

I consider an "Asshole" to be a borderline sociopath: someone who consciously acts in a way that they know is potentially hurtful to others, but they don't care because it serves his/her own needs.

Anyways, not to take this far off the topic, but the word "asshole" is tossed around like the words "love" and "freedom" in that it's open to interpretation.

Girls...boys....boys....girls....

that's why so many things change and become volumes more alluring when people get older.

I am currently completely in love with a man more than twice my age who is mature, mysterious, good humoured, quiet and strong, so strong that he never lets his weakness show, never lets assholes get more than a raised eyebrow, and exudes male sex appeal. It's maddeningly attractive!

If you're one of those stands-out-by-trying-not-to type of guys who says very little, walks tall and confidently and refuses to give attention to the women, and who is a complete brick wall in conversation (read: Talk to her in the same tone you would a guy, don't get shaky, don't hit on her, don't do a FUCKING THING that clues her in to the fact that she's a hot girl, BUT with the same substance/eccentricity you always possess), you'll have a lot of them frustrated and wanting you, because they'll think you're an asshole who KNOWS, not thinks, he is too good for all of them. Granted, some might think you're gay, but that's the price you pay.

^^I thought my husband was gay when I first met him.

And damn bleedthrough... long ass sentence there pal!

But for the record... I disagree. Those types of men irritate me. It's hard to generalize and get it right. It varies from woman to woman, man to man. Yes, for some women, that works. But for me, and a lot of other women I know, that comes across as arrogant and boring. *shrugs* Eh... whatcha gonna do?

Hence why I made the comment about some thinking such men are gay: The point was, some will think you're different. I just wanted to relate it a slightly less-boring manner.

I think no one could even begin to argue I’m not your typical mans man to a point where it’s almost laughable.

My hobbies include hunting, fishing, carpentry, and rugby. I can fix just about anything with duct tape. I've always got a knife on me, and I'm good with cars. I like my beer, I like my cards and my wardrobe consists of 3 pairs of jeans and like 8 t-shirts.

At the same time when I'm with the ladies, I bring them flowers, hold doors open, sweet talk like you've never heard and gotta gold medal for cuddling. Sissy? Yeah, well, when was the last time you killed a poisonous rattlesnake with your bare hands?

When it comes right down to it, all the cars and belching in the world won't make you man. Respect and responsibility do. I command respect from the people around me and I respect those who deserve it. What part of that means you have to be an asshole?

Fuck respect. Anyone who needs respect is obviously insecure about themselves. Just be happy with yourself, and if you earn some respect along the way, all the better, but don't try to get it. Thats just sad.

bullshit. young girls are attracted to good looking guys. a guy can have many deep-seeded insecurities, as long as he doesnt openly show them, these girls are none the wiser. it takes zero, and i mean zero, confidence to walk up and talk to girls. it takes zero confidence to flirt with a girl, ask a girl out or get her into sexual moods. all that takes is effort and a "dont give a fuck" attitude. if you dont care if you get shot down, you'll do whatever has to be done, even if that does get you smacked, told off or whatever. i know plenty of guys who have hidden depression and lack of self worth that get pussy. why? they could care less if they get shot down or not, as long as a few new girls a month fuck them, its all good.

as an illustration: imagine a guy with 300 million dollars having to make a half court basketball shot in order to win $10,000. obviously if he goes out their nervous and scared, hes going to choke. however, does he need to be confident in making this shot in order to not be nervous or scared? no. hes going to think "whats 10 grand?" and not have a worry or care in the world. just go out and take the shot, the prize is worth as much to him as making the shot in an empty gym. think a girl that tunes in simply for his few dribbles and shot can tell the difference? nope, didnt think so.

Well, of course I knew SOMEONE was going to have to say "No you're wrong.. blah blah" then go off on another example, which I why I said most.

You don't have to be good-looking to get girls. It makes it easier if you look good. D'oh! But my point was not so good-looking young guys can get the girls too with a little confidence.

If you have confidence (and the gift of gab), you can get any woman you want (Yes, there are exceptions). There are few guys that can pull this off, but it's possible to be "ugly" or "fat" and get pussy.

When dealing with human behavior, there will always be variations. Nothing is set in stone. I wrote that assuming the people reading it could rub those two brain cells together and recognize this.

except youre still full of shit. "getting pussy" doesnt mean from one girl or from ugly girls. getting pussy is regularly fucking good looking young women with quickness and ease. good looking guys do it, fat guys who yap at them dont. confidence doesnt mean dick. hell, you even said yourself that very few guys can walk around fat and disgusting and talk the pants off hot girls left and right.

i fail to see the reason for the original post.

basiclly, i beleive the poster wants to get alot of pussy. hey, we all do.

but he wants to put another limiting factor on the others he surely has: hes not hot, and hes not too convincing with the tounge or he wouldnt need to post.

this guy wants some kind of utopia that he himself is proof of doesnt exist.

sorry friend, pulling your cock wont make it 2 feet long. doesnt happen.

so, shit or get off the pot. if you want pussy, start acting in ways that will get you that. if you want relationships, acti in a way that attracts women, while keeping to your own standards and values.

life is a zero sum game bro. it aint fair and it aint right. but holding onto some morality that is only going to hinder you, is only gonna push you further into a hole.
