Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
Well, I had this debate with my second last girlfriend when she started whinging about how she has to go through so much trouble to get ready before we go out... now that's all well and good, but overall, which sex has to take care of themselves more to be optimally, attractive?
In my opinion, it's the men. Based on my experience, I've found that most girls tend to like a guy who is well toned, healthy, with a sixpack and an attractive face. Guys tend to want girls to be slim (Not toothpick-like, mind you), lightly toned, and with an attractive face.
Now if we exclude the attractive facial features aspect, and a woman's hip/breast size, which are both factors that are genetic... then with the remaining factors that can be altered, men have to work a helluva lot harder to come up to the optimally attractive state.
For a guy to get the optimum level of muscle tone and such, it takes a huge amount of bloody work and commitment to maintain... for girls it's pretty much 'Don't eat so much and work out lightly enough to keep off weight'.
Anyways, what are your thoughts?

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
I see what you're saying, but men have other benefits from working out and other motives to do it, whereas women put on make-up purely to look good, and spend a shitload of time doing it to boot.

so true.
here's a conondrum for you: the 'trouble 'n strife' is a devout christian (sorta like hentei but without the dykeyness!)
she believes makeup is SINFUL and anything more than a simple haircut 'hochmut'(vanity).
she only has about 3 pairs of shoes.
AND YET SHE STILL NEEDS 2 HOURS IN THE BATHROOM ! even if we're just going to the shops.
WHY?

She climes out the window, runs next door, fucks the neighbor, runs back, quick shower to wash off sweat and cum, then she's ready.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
i'm a girl, and i agree with the guy perspective. it's more work for the guys. i'm not a big makeup wearer but have met tonnes of girls who are obsessed with it/can't leave the house without it even if it's to go and get the mail. it becomes habitual, a new layer of skin. asking them to go without is, to them, the equivelant of asking a guy who's just had like 50 layers of skin chemically pealed off, to walk out of the house and go down the street. make sense? no? thought so.
in other words, i think it becomes more of a psychological need rather than a physical one, over time.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
I think it depends on the individual and what they have to work with. Anyone who keeps him/herself in good physical shape, takes care of the skin, maintains a flattering haircut and does a little basic grooming every day (bathing, hair removal, nail care, oral hygiene) will require less time to look presentable. Those who let themselves go until they have to do otherwise obviously have more to do.
A woman that spends more than 15 minutes doing her makeup and hair (assuming it's already clean and dry) probably doesn't know what she's doing. Or she's dawdling, preening, and/or needs a better haircut.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
I think it depends on what you consider "work".
Some girls actually like wearing make-up because they find it fun. (don't ask me how, I will never understand)
Some guys work out, lift weights, etc. becuase they enjoy doing something physical, looking better to girls might be a bonus but it may not be their reasoning for doing it in the first place.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
work? lol, no. On a typical day I climb out bed, smoke a cig, shower for an average of 3 minutes (from the time i get hot water), throw on whatever shit I can find first, and im out the door. no more then 10 minutes from the time I wake up untill im ready. And a good 5 of that is taken up by my morning smoke.
Working out, running, etc isnt really work. For the people that do its more of a hobby. Yes it does make them look better, and that is probablly one of their reasons for taking it up as a hobby, but for most of the people, its still a hobby.
Yet the average girl I have at my place, wakes up, showers for 30 min, puts clothes on, spends another half hour putting makeup and perfume on, only to have me get pissed when i want to take a shower, go in and "violate" her in every way that i have the energy for in the morning, and then she has to start over again.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
Ugh. Chicks and their bloody makeup. The next girl I see that has that stupid concealer mask line dealie going on is getting punched in the face. IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD IF YOU HAVE AN INCH OF MAKEUP ON YOUR FACE THAT'S A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN YOUR SKIN! Gah. Don't get me wrong. I wear makeup. Takes me a whole 2 minutes or less to apply it though. Another 3-ish to do my hair. I was going somewhere else with this, but I got distracted, so I guess I'm done. Yeah.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
I think everyone's opinion of beauty is different. I could point out the most beautiful girl (or boy) that I've ever seen and some people might just say "Uhhhh..."
I don't care too much about guys' upkeep, as long as he's not ugly to start with. I don't speak for most of the female population, though. I think girls are mislead when they think they have to care too much about their appearances. As long as a chick doesn't overeat and is in decent physical condition, most guys will think she looks pretty okay. When I wake up in the morning, I shower, pull on some clothes and put on some sunscreen. From what most guys have told me, I look pretty good.
So yes, I think men probably have to work harder to be acceptably attractive to the opposite sex. But most don't.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
I read a book about this...
Girls work harder to look better, but guys benefit from it more
Girls look good because they want to fit in with the social standings
Guys should look better because then they will attract more girls

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
^^^are you black? Just wondering.
I think that in general girls have to work harder to look appealing; but they also have fewer options than guys. What I mean by that is that if the girl isn't naturally phisically attractive she can't make up for her phisical appearace with personality and/or material possesions as much as a guy can.

Yes I am, I am Ugandan
Since when can't ugly chicks get guys? All the ones I see are getting it, and getting it GOOD!!!
With guys, they DO have to be better looking, but if they're loaded then they can just get a gold digger, no matter what they look like
With girls, they can't do that

Shit, I'll take a free ride with an ugly chick if it means not only free sex, but practically being paid for it.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
id say men work on themselves more, but it all depends on whether they exercize or not, for me i spend on average an hour a day at the gym, two at soccer, One hour washing face, taking showers, triming nails ect. My girlfriend probubly spends an hour and a half on herself a day. So it all depends on how you look at it who spends more time on themseves, girls spend more time in the bathroom, guys spend more time altogether

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
I have a freind thats a guy and he puts on male makeup. Hes kinda gay though.
I think males have to work harder, I haveta do like, 400 things in the morning, my hair, acne wash, brush my teeth vigourously for like six hours... blah blah blah... I eat a lot, but i work out enough so that it keeps the pounds off.
when i work out i like to make sure i have a six pack and noticable large muscles, and i run to burn calories and enhance my stamina...
the girls i know dont eat and put on makeup... meh

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
well i like my guys chubby or outrageously skinny (not in a i like skinny guys way, just in the way that i like junkies). I dont think my guys really have to work that hard. I dont mind a guy who looks like he needs a shower. All the work my guy has to do is put on some form of clothing.
Girls spend a ton of time making themselves look presentable, finding the perfect bra for the shirt they're wearing, finding pants that make your ass look great etc. It's not easy being a girl
so in short...girls have it harder.

Re: Which sex has to work on their appearance more?!
Good point, it does seem that women are judged more harshly than men. In formal situations, a guy just has to don a nice suit, or a tux, and they're pretty much all the same. Women have many more decisions to make.
Thought I should say something more than just "bump".

disagree, especially with the working out part: "it takes a huge amount of bloody work and commitment to maintain..."
bullshit.
muscle comes from testosterone. men have a LOT more than women. You build muscle by sitting on the couch, just by way of all that testosterone in your system. We, on the other hand, will have to work out 5x harder than you to even MATCH your couch potato strengh. Plus, have you ever seen a guy blowdry his hair? No. it takes a lot more time and effort for a woman to look good, with fewer benifits.
Plus, for "attractiveness", a six pack isnt required. Its kinda like how huge boobs arent required for YOU to think a girl's hot; they're just a plus.
