Identical twins form when the fertalized egg splits into two eggs, making two, completely identical embryos. Everything about the embryos is identical, including gender. You can't have identical twins of different genders.

Fraternal twins come about when there are two eggs that are fertilized at the same time. Since there are two seperate eggs to begin with, the resulting twins may or may not look alike, just like members of the same family may or may not look alike.
