Reason for pubes?
is there a reason we (meaning humans) grow pubic hair? like an actual reason? if you shave it it doesnt seem to affect you at all so is it just there and a nuisance? i heard somewhere that for girls it protects them from something (i read it a long time ago from a probably unreliable source). what do you think?

Re: Reason for pubes?
As far as I can tell it is some trait we needed back in the day that just never evolved out. It's like men grow beards, back in the day it was a protection to cover their neck from animal attacks. Pubes cover the other vital part (being the point of animals is to breed), because if you loose that part your life is wasted. Then again that is just my opinion...

I read this and the first thing that came to my head was to scratch it???.
I guess people would look weird without hair, then again, if the first man in the world had no hair, and everyone after that didn't either, someone with hair would get funny looks....
so i really don't see the purpose either

Re: Reason for pubes?
it's left over from when humans were more hairy and more "primitive" and natural and used it for protection as well as well as for warmth

Re: Reason for pubes?
Read this. (http://www.fact-index.com/p/pu/pubic_hair.html)
The gist: "It is believed that the functions of pubic hair include the dissemination of pheromones, and protection from the friction of sexual intercourse."
You might think humans have pubic hair for warmth, but thatÂ’s not the reason at all, good guess though." (http://www.coolnurse.com/sex_faqs18.htm)

Re: Reason for pubes?
Protection from friction during intercourse? Fuck that, both myself and my girl shave, and we love it. Our sex is usually best when we are both freshly shaven. Pubic hair fucking sucks.

Re: Reason for pubes?

The most obvious reason that comes up is because it helps to protect the male genitals from physical injury although this is obviously not the case since a) women have pubic hair too, and b) we men know that pubic hair is no defense against a well-aimed kick.
Human skin needs to be sufficiently translucent to allow in a little UV to manufacture vitamin D, but opaque enough not to have folic acid destroyed by that same UV -- one reason why we have different skin pigmentations across the African/Asian/Caucasian races.
However, in the case of the genitals, any amount of UV can potentially damage our sex cells (sperm or eggs) and render us (at least temporarily) unable to reproduce.
So the human gene profile lost the rest of its body hair with the exception of the hair on the head and around the genitals -- the latter of which couldn't be lost since it's a gene trait which wouldn't have been passed on.

It's possible you meant this as a joke, but this is inaccurate for two reasons: pubic hair isn't there to provide warmth, and the reason testicles hang away from the body is to keep sperm cool. Too much warmth destroys them.

...Which is a good thing if you don't want to end up a daddy (or more-so of one).

Re: Reason for pubes?
Reasons:
1: To keep the harmful sun out of your nads (yeah, the evolution fairy doesn't take pants into account)
2: Hair carries smell, and when you get horny, your nads start smelling differently,
and this attracts mates in the animal kingdom. However in the Human Kingdom, people are like "Eww, you got stank crotch."
I know this to be true, I was told by a really kick ass Russian guy.

I shave mine for the most part, so sun-burned balls is me.
Then again... I wear pants.

Re: Reason for pubes?
I think that it's because hair is really dead cells, and since cells are so particularly active down there, they wear out faster, and become hair.

Protection from the sun and to help with scent. Same reason you have hair on your armpits.
