Birth control
My old lady was on the Depo Privera (sp?) birth control shot, administerd every 3 months, for about a year and a half. She just went off of it in late April, due to transportaion problems.
Now we have to wait for her to get a period before she can get back on it, since there was a gap in the meds. Now, my question is, how long does the shit usually last after you go off of it? I have heard as long as a year or 2, but I want to know the average.
Also, is it possible for her to still not get her period while waiting for the meds to completly get out of her system? Oh, yeah, btw, shes one of those chicks that takes the shot, and it stops her period.
The only time she bled, was when it was about time to get another shot. She hasn't bled since the last time she was supposed to get the shot.

Re: Birth control
Yeah, fuck rubbers, we are just gonna wait on the intercourse until shes back on it. So, oral only. When we first got together, we used rubbers, and either me or her would always say fuck it, and rip the damn thing off, and sling it across the room.
It was funny, because it would spray cum all over stuff.
Still though, no one has given me a good answer, deadlycindy? got any input?

Re: Birth control
I was on Depo for close to 4 years I just stopped it four months ago, I got my period back the next month.
I recommend you use protection, every female is different and there is know way of known how long it will take each individual get pregnant again.

Re: Birth control
The hormones in the shot prevent ovulation. When the hormones are no longer running through her system, ovulation is possible. How long it takes her body to get back on a natural cycle again is unique to her. Therefore, there is no way to say when pregnancy is a possibility.
There are women who have to wait years before they can conceive after being on the shot for a couple of years. Then again, there are women whose bodies go right back to normal after being a month late getting their shot.
You have a few options but it seems you've already decided

Re: Birth control
^^Yeah.
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/bc/depoforyou.htm
When you say she "just went off it in late April" do you mean she had her last shot in April, or she was due for a shot in April?
In any case, don't count on continued birth control effectiveness beyond 12 weeks of the last shot.

Re: Birth control
10 Seconds on google and i have it. Try a search first next time. please and thank you.
DEPO PROVERA
What is it?
Depo Provera (depomedroxy progesterone acetate) is a progestin-only shot, given every three months to prevent pregnancy. It works by preventing ovulation, thickening the cervical mucous and changing the lining of the uterus. Pregnancy is effectively prevented more than 99 percent of the time when shots are given every three months. The first shot is given within the first five days of a menstrual cycle (within five days from the first day of bleeding). Subsequent injections are given every 12 weeks. A back up method of birth control is recommended for the two weeks following the first injection. If a Depo Provera user does not return for subsequent shots, another method of birth control must be used to prevent pregnancy. If a patient returns for an injection past the 12 week time limit, a negative serum pregnancy test is required before an injection will be given.
Yearly exams which include a pap smear, pelvic and breast exam are required to continue on this method. A fasting lipid profile is recommended if there is a family history of high cholesterol.
