Default period time... how long's she out for?

Hey guys and girls! Last night I was undressing my girlfriend and she told me she 'couldn't'. Now I know that she meant that she was on her period, but when should/could I try again as she's not that open and comfortable at telling me 'Hey, I'm done my period for the month'??? How long does the duration usually last for until we can have sex again? Or explain to me the process of WHY? thanx, preferably ladies?! DKL

Honestly, you can look this up on any medical site. Normally we get it every 28 days, for 7 days. That's 'average'...but various women can fluctuate.

try once every 3 days. Remember the time it takes. That way next time it comes around you already know when its coming, and when it will be gone. Calenders are great sex toys...

Oh my fucking god. I think you will last 3-5 days without sex. ITS OKAY!

Periods usually last 3-5 days. Also, I don't think sex during the females period is the smartest way to go, unless you want a bloody dick covered in 75% dead tissue, 25% blood, and an egg. *YUCK*

My dick is already covered in 100% dead tissue -- it's called an "epidermis."

Besides, if a woman is on her period she can't get pregnant. Isn't that reason enough?

If she's not comfortable enough to tell you she has her period why on earth are you guys having sex? I think you need to reassess the communication issues in your relationship.

Depending on how far she is into her period, you could wait another 3 days or a whole week. Yes, women are *supposed* to get their period every 28 days for 5 days but in the real world that doesn't happen. I've yet to meet a woman with THAT regular of a period, although it would be nice.

I've kept a calander for the past 3 or 4 years and mine is still 22 days apart, sometimes up to 34. There's really no way of predicting without some sort of margin. Ie) "Sometime next week I'm going to start bleeding." As far as how long, it could be 3 days (for the luck ones) it could be 7 days for her to fully be over with it.

And just to add, everyday someone is starting their period. Some get in the beginning of the month, some towards the end. The whole month is game for the menstrual cycle.

Usually the last day or so is barely spotting, if a girl won't have sex on her period she'll want to wait till it's completely over and done with.

There are a couple of reasons females don't like to have sex on their period: It's messy, it'll hurt, blah blah. Personally, getting my period doesn't mean anything except extra laundry or more sex in the shower. Sex feels good, why let some blood get in the way? I don't understand the embarassment issue, it seems to only be a thing with the younger crowd. If you're opening your legs to someone for sexual gratification, you should be comfortable with them enough to be human. This goes for farting, boogers, all that nasty shit should be acceptable to talk about if your having SEX with the person.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Whoo, let me squash this pregnancy myth right now. Yes, it's possible for a woman to get pregnany during her period. Just because an egg is shedding doesn't mean another one hasn't dropped. This is just as bad as the myth about we can't get pregnany our first time having sex: wrong!

Oh as as far as going down. I've never came across a guy that wouldn't do it just because of some period. Stick a tampon in a lick away!

DKL, is it possible for you to change your name, it's stretching out the page. It's quite annoying.

Why not? I knew a girl who always sucked her tampons dry because she liked the taste of blood.

(And if she didn't slurp out all the blood her dog would dig them out of the trasn and eat them.)

Many things are possible, but that doesn't mean they're likely. Women who are on the pill rarely get pregnant whether they're on the sugar pill portion or not; same with the patch (the patch isn't worn during the period week.)

average period is five to seven days, but it varies for each girl. is she on the pill? if she is, its seven days usually.

If you want to split hairs, there's only a few days a month a woman can actually get pregnant. However, when giving advice, I don't take the chance for them. I give them the information and they can choose whether or not to risk it. To bluntly say, "You can't get pregnant during your period." is ignorant. And to spread ignorance is wrong.

And women on birth control have a totally different set of odds of getting pregnant then women who are not on birth control, period or not.

You think that three days after her period ends, she has another 7-day period? You're an idiot.

Average is 5 days of period and 28 days of not period. Usually they aren't shorter than 3 days or longer than 8

Edit: to the dumbass who flamed someone for saying that it could be three days: you're the idiot. My friend bleeds for 3 days every single time. And I go for 7-8 every single time. People are different! *gasp*

Ok, first of all, I am 15 and I know plenty of peoples' that last 3-5 days. And you just contradicted yourself by saying that "it varies for each girl." It varies between you and me. Lol, 7 days seems like a lifetime to me. Not trying to be mean, but I think I know what I am talking about.

And, how would she have her period for seven days if she is on the pill? It's supposed to lighten you're period, and cut your usually period time in half. For example, if you have your period for 6 days (like you say), then it will make it 3-4 days, with very light flow or even just spotting.

True, true. When I refer to a woman's period I'm generally talking about those 2-3 days where there's no real chance of pregnancy. Some people say a period is 5-8 days, which is a whole different story regarding pregnancy.

ok. if you use a condom and know how to operate a washing machine (should there be any mess), you're probably ok having sex while she has her period (condom obviously cuz she's bleeding and you don't wanna risk any chance of infection/passing stds so easily into her) ... then again, have had guy go down on me while i was on my period and there was absolutely no big mess, bleeding kinda stops/lessens during sexual activity (For me at least, may be different for others) ...

as for the timing of period, it's unfair to generalize time because i've had some that lasted 3 days and some that lasted 5/6 days, depending on my diet at the time/health ...etc., a lot of things come into factor for this, and i'm on the pill and so far every time i've had my period since starting, it's lasted only 3 days. again this varies for each person, it's safe to say that on average a woman's period shouldn't last longer than 7 days and will come about the same time every month, although developing teens may vary because their body is still regulating this cycle.

to the poster, you could've easily looked this up on google, but since you're concerned, just count on about a week of no sex to be safe, or ask her. if she can tell you she "can't" she can keep telling you until it's ok and she let's you do whatever it is you do.

edit: FYI, i'm 16 and i got my first period when i was 12, in case anyone quesitons my experience.

That's due to reverse peristalsis. Flow of bodily fluids is guided inward instead of out of the female body during sexual arousal/orgasm. The purpose of this physiological response is to help the semen on its passage to the area of fertilization of the ova. I understand that this response continues till approximately 20 minutes after an orgasm.

Back to the topic:

I have to agree with MrMojoRisin. You and your lady are having sex but the period issue put a stop sign up(both sex and communication-wise)? Menstration, like sex, is a part of life. She doesn't let her period stop her from living in the other facets of her life, does she?

Period or not, it's always time when you have the time.

I assumed that you weren't saying that a chick has a 7-day period every three days. But I was pointing out how poorly you phrased whatever it is you were trying to say. And you've still failed to tell me what exactly that was.

try it once every 3 days? from the start of her period, P-day as i like to call it, wait 3 days then see if she is still on it. If she is, wait another three. and so on untill she is off, remember when it started and when it stopped and you have a good guess for next time it happens how long shes gonna be out for.
