OK so the other day I was hanging with some friends, and this one that I like somewhat more then a friend was sorta down so I tried conforting her and had my arm around her some of the time. The problem is I like her both as a friend and as more then a friend but I don't think she likes me as more then a friend and yesterday while I had my arm around her I almost kissed her(on the cheek but still) luckily I restrained myself but it sucks cause I know that if I put my arm around her to confort her again I might actually kiss her without realy thinking about it which could prove bad. I think the reason this is happening is because I always used to have my arm around my girlfriend the same way I did when I was conforting her and I would always kiss my GF like every minitue so i think its just like a reaction. I dont know if I should just tell my fried this so she knows how I feel and that way if she doesn't like me the same way she will understand when I back up from her if she goes for conforting or if I should just try my best to restrain myself and not tell her? I don't know if my question makes any sense since im pretty tired now.

I have a similar thing with a girl i've been friends with for about 4 years, i've wanted her for about 3 and a half of those, and haven't had the nerve to do anything about it.

Yea well I sorta talked to her. I didn't mention exactly how I felt but I told her how I was so close to kissing her and she was like it wouldn't have mattered if you did, shit happens. Which makes me feel a bit better, so next time if im conforting her and go to kiss her ill just go with it and see what happens.
