Re: Your Thoughts On Gender???
Men tend to live more for the moment, whereas women tend to be more thoughtful and plan things out. I blame testosterone, the great equalizer of men.

Re: Your Thoughts On Gender???
hmm. I live for the moment, and my fiance likes to plan for the future.
Ugh, ok, let's perpetuate hackneyed gender stereotypes. No, let's not. Go read Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Glamour and Men's Health.
Environment, family influences and experience determines the differences between people.
About the only real, definitive difference between a man and a woman's thinking might be:
Man: My balls are sweaty.
Woman: I'm almost out of tampons.

^^ Hahahaha.
ON_TOPIC:
Well, there are (as I'm certain I was told over and over and over again in sexual education back in the eighth grade) many chemical differences in the bodies of a average male and average female...

You've never followed a woman on a shoe/clothes/bedlinen/pillow shopping spree, have you?

Ugh. Please don't get people into reading Cosmo. Such a shitty mag. Thanks to that shit on paper bundle of "Advice" my g/f got the idea that pushing/massaging behind the balls felt good. Boy was she wrong.
And no I'm not basing it off of one experience. I've taken the liberty of reading a couple of the mags in my more boredom soaked moments, and I haven't been able to relate to any of them. They are all wrong.

To you,
To me, huh? Well, it is hard to post an opinion on this without stepping on toes, so it is a good thing I dont mind stepping on toes.
Women are obviously more emotional. What does that mean? I believe that everyone thinks on both a conscious and subconscious level. Men tend to make more of their decisions based on conscious thought. My theory is women analyze situations on an subconscious level, and their subconscious returns a verdict to their conscious mind in the form of a feeling. You can call it an emotional reaction or intuition, but there is cognition behind it that women cant seem to explain. That is my theory on where that comes from. I believe that this theory also explains why women can change their mind so easily. When a man makes a conscious decisions based on things he believes to be true, it takes a lot for him to give up his assumptions. The subconscious would not hold to beliefs so tightly, and would send a different emotion when there was any slight change in circumstances that would warrant it.
Due to women's thinking relying more heavily on the subconscious, I believe their communication does as well. Many experts say that a great deal of our communication is not just the words we say. It is our tone, body language, and facial expressions. They try to put percentages on this, but I believe is it not the same for men and women. I think women are more in tune with the subtext of conversations on both ends. This is the cause of communication breakdowns between men and women. While men just listen to what is said, women say things in many ways, and will keep looking for different meanings in a mans words if it does not match his other communication.

Men tend to fall into the trap of believing all women think exactly the same way. Women tend to fall into the trap of thinking all men think the same way.

Re: Your Thoughts On Gender???
The ONLY difference between men and women is instinct, and hormone levels. Men are instinctivley told ro reproduce as much as possible. Women however, want children, but also want a protector, someone to gaurd the nest. The hormone levels just fuck things up even more. That is the only significant difference, but it all changes because society expects different things from both sexes.

Re: Your Thoughts On Gender???
Easy pretty much has it down. But not all women are more emotional than men and not all women are good at communicating. I don't think anyone is trying to imply that all women are alike in these ways; just that the majority is. Here's what's odd though, when you come across the exceptions to these rules, they are still female. They can still be easily identified (even if you don't look at them) as women. So what is that? What is that quality? It's hard to articulate. Maybe it's just that there's a huge range of things and if someone fits a few of them, that person is a female. It's weird how obvious, yet hard to articulate, our differences are. I make fart jokes all the time. I have no problem with drinking and smoking pot (actually, I've stopped that stuff [on day 6 for pot, day nothing at all for aclohol] for personal reasons, but that has nothing to do with morals). When I'm high, I say really stupid shit that seems really funny at the time. When looking for what I like in a chick, tits are a big issue. The point here is that these are typically male traits even though I'm female. But anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm very feminine. So what the fuck is it? The world may never know

Re: Your Thoughts On Gender???
if anyone here has read Slaughter-House 5, you'll know there are no fewer than 7 separate sexes. the reason most people cannot see them is becasue they live in the 4th dimention, but they all play a roll in the creation of a baby. therefore, every person has no less than 7 parents. creepy, eh?

ha! Yeah, right. Women are illogical and irational and will do things on the spur of the moment because they are hysterical. Men actually use logic and reason.

Agreed, along with the others I mentioned in what may not have been a derisive enough tone.

Hehe, the forth dimensional (spacial dimensions, that is) is really fun to think about. Have you ever gotten an itch that you couldn't explain? Well, what if your forth dimensional body was poking into something in that dimension, causing it to itch?
A lot of the unexplained could be rationalized with logic like that though...
Oh, and for the record the "natural" satellite of Earth's is my left testicle. The Earth is my right one, and my penis is the sun. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Re: Your Thoughts On Gender???
why does it always have to be generalized? can't we just accept that EVERYONE thinks differently? no two women think the same, and no two men think the same. that's something to be appreciated.

No, as humans we are forced to generalize so we can put things into categories. If we didn't, we might actually live in peace... :\

Because we have more in common than you think. There are differences, but using that as an excuse to not look for the similarities is misguided and often insecure. Humans are social creatures and we influence each other enough that we can study them as a group. Of course there are exceptions to most rules, but general rules work a high enough percentage of the time to make them worth studying. Fields of study like psychology and market analysis would not be possible if this were not true. If you want to feel special then you can pretend that you are not at least a partial slave to your environment and that everyone is unique. But if you want to learn more about everyone, you will look for the similarities and differences. All men and women have similarities and differences, but men and women sometimes have different similarities.

The parts in bold seem to be contradictory. I would think that those who seek similarities do so out of insecurity.
The more different and varied social milieus a person interacts in, the more it becomes evident that variations among people have less to do with gender and more to do with environment. If a person does the typical 12 years of mandated school, 4-5 years of college, then right into a job/career, s/he is basically following the well-traveled path, which is essentially the same social milieu. People on this path have to act/think similarly, according to tradition or expectations.

Most people were told by their mother that they are special. Many cling to that out of insecurity (because they want to feel special). However, that is not what I meant when I said people use the everyone thinks differently as an insecure excuse to not study the similarities within a gender. There are pseudo intellectuals that cannot figure out the opposite sex (or their own sex) so they use the hackneyed cop out instead of just admitting they do not know.
You are right that environment does shape us, but environment does not treat both sexes equally. I think there is more to it than that, but that is enough. I seriously doubt you will find any noteworthy study that finds men and women fundamentally equal apart from their individuality. Even something as simple as a commercial will have a different effect on each gender. We are just not the same.

General rules hold for groups of people. If this were not true, certain fields of study would not be possible. ...how would that mean that it's not true?
