So basically, after finally growing some [figurative] balls and telling the guy I've liked for a looooong time [very good friend both ways] how i feel, i get totally shot down. its 12:30 in the morning, i'm about to cry, i don't have any idea what the fuck to do, and all i know is that there's nothing left there, because every time i talk to him all i can think about is, "shot down..shot down...shot down...shot down..." guess all that shows is that maybe putting yourself out there on a chance isnt worth it after all. next time i won't bother.

Well at least you gave it a shot. Don't be discouraged by the fact that he didn't want to hook up with you. Be proud of the fact that you grew some (figurative) balls and told him how you feel. You'll get over him, but the experience that you've gained will stay with you.

Well, I am not sure if this will help, but here it goes...

You built up the courage to have a shot at what you desired... and in the future you will likely realise that your actions have been for the best.

It's better to have opened yourself and been given a definitive answer, than to have gone on watching him going about his life... dating other girls, while leaving you to wonder "What if...?"

In time you'll be able to move on from this guy, because you now know that a future as partners isn't possible with him. Because of this your attentions will eventually turn to someone else who is deserving of you and who cares for you in turn... and the fact that you got this "What if?", out of the way, will allow you to move on to that person.

What exactly makes you think your experience with putting yourself out there on a chance will be any different than other people? It's CHANCE How can people be so stupid? He didn't want to hook up with you, oh well. yeah i know what you mean, i just asked this girl i like out and was turned down, it was cool because that was the first time i was shot down, not because i'm super attractive (yes i am) but because i never had the biggest balls and normally wouldn't do it, though not to say that i've never had a gf before cause i have. but anyway, when i asked her and was turned down, i felt good, it was kinda weird, but i was glad i had the balls to do it and i really didn't care that she said no. so now i know that i can ask a girl out i have no chance with and accept defeat.

Chibi, while I can't speak for all men, I think it's safe to say many guys like women who make the first move. It shows that you're not timid or someone who buys into the idea of gender roles. While it may suck now, keeping that initiative should help you find another guy when youre ready.
