In your opinions how well should I know a girl from school before I ask her to go on a date? What are some good places to take her? I'm 16 and do have a car.

hell, a mere 10 - 30 min. conversation could be all you need to ask for the first date. The great thing about dating people you don't know very well is you have a lot to talk about (learning about eachother). Also, if you're just on a date, and she turns out to be a bad-egg, you can ditch her and little-to-no harm is done.

Why do you have to know her, ask her out and then get to know her while dating.

Depends on the girl man. Like said by lovly said if you don't know the girl you'll have more to talk to her about when you do go out. But it depends on the girl some girls want to know a bit about a guy before they go out so then if you ask her out before then it could be harder to try to ask her out again for the second time. My last girl friend I barly knew her name(theres lots of variations of Kristine lol) when I asked her out and she said yes but then again I did "know" her for a week before I asked her out. But for the most part id say you should at least talk to her and know a little more then her name unless you know that she would say yes(I had the benift that my friend knew her best friend so I had knew whether she liked me) Im sure that this post makes no fucking sense but thats ok cause im to tired to care. Just talk to her some and then if you think shed say yea then ask her out or something.

"dating" = tends to not mean exclusively

"going out/together" = tends to mean exclusively

so you're safe just dating to get to know someone, making it exclusive before you know someone will tie things in a knot and screw you over if you don't match well.

Not well. So when the shit hits the fan (as it does), you don't lose a long-term friendship as well. If you do become very close, that's good. But if something goes wrong, you only lost a girlfriend. There are more.
