Default Love

I see too many people loving just for the sake of loving. To get them out of a personal hole they go and love the first human that gives them a little attention. It's funny when you see two people on a date or whatnot, talking romantic to each other, calling each other "the one", when it could've been any individual who happened to want to love at the moment.

Too many people are settling for whatever they can get. Me, I am searching for my soulmate, and don't waste my time with anyone else. If I live to be an 80 year old single male, then atleast I can say with dignity that the right one doesn't exist and I can depend on myself without falling for the next best thing.

Sorry about this pointless comment, I just wanted to get some thoughts out of my head. Anyone share similar feelings?

Sure, I've harped on this before, that people tend to be in love with the idea of being in love more than with the actual person.

And yes, there are those of us who hold out for a soul mate. Funny thing is, you have to know to recognize him/her when they come along, cause they may not be at all what you thought you were expecting. Which is something far superior to what you could have imagined.

I think that that's the great thing about love. That it can be reciprocated amongst so many different people.

Love is not high on my priority list, ergo I am single and not willing to casually love if the circumstances aren't right.

I do realize that you can't hold off for a perfect celebrity, but I'm not going to fall for the first individual that gives me more attention than usual.

You state these things as if they're facts.

They're your opinion, presumably based on your experiences. My experiences are different, since I have a different opinion. I suppose if we were to launch a debate on this issue, we'd have to define "love" and "soulmates" so we're not wasting time talking apples and oranges.

If you care to explain why you think they are facts, by all means do. I might learn something.

That still wouldn't be sufficient, because my half and your 1/10 still wouldn't equal a full conversation.

You can shove your condescending attitude up your ass.

youre not willing to even define your definition of love and soulmates for the purpose of a conversation. whos condescending?

I do believe that you sir, said "eh, not worth it." When Deadlycindy in fact suggested the idea. I do believe that you are the one who is condescending.

As for me I do believe in love, I even found it before my girlfriend and I started dating. It is not something that either of us put on. I know this because everything I feel changes when she's around, I'm happy.

Proof, please.

This is your opinion. How would that make you sad? A person that strives for love is, in my book, a person that wants to belong. That just means that they don't want to be lonely for the rest of their lives.

they are.

Once again, proof please.

Your lack of proof, for a start.

~~~
How very immature...
~~~

You never asked her to define it, and as such, you should not have expected it.

quote:Originally posted by Nihilism:

whos condescending?

You are, why not give proof as to their nonexistence.

~~~
I don't want to settle for anyone, and so I guess that is (along with my inherent fat/ugliness) why I haven't "hooked up" with anyone. I really hope that I have a "soul mate", but even if I did the chance of finding that person is so small that I'd be more lucky betting on a 6 billion sided die roll.
For me, "Big L Love" (the "my soulmate", "my one and only", "my kindred spirit", "my forever", kind) is an unhealthy, meaningless, and basically bad, abstract concept. To "chase" it just results in frustration. Worse yet, to "find" it may result in disappointment, tragedy, (even, sadly, sometimes death).
"Little L love" is fine. That kind of love is based on the here and now.....on the very moment. It can be for a minute, or five, or an hour or day or even could possibly be longer......just so long as you don't let it turn into that dreaded Big L Love thingy.
Love, Venus.
well well.
i think we all know what soulmate means. the notion that someone is the perfect other half for you. there isnt one. no one is perfect for you. and if that doesnt convince you, look at the divorce rate in america. %63 last i looked. how many more are locked into bad marriges? or just loveless marriges?
if you go around life looking to fall into love, you are sad. if this is your main goal, to fall in love, your life must be devoid of something. you gustave, even mentioned not wanting to get old alone. now if hopping from relationship to relationship to find someone to latch onto to not grow old alone isnt sad, i dont know what is.
would growing old alone be that sad? is it really that horrible?
To be honest, I could care less whether I grow old alone, or find "the one". If I'm alone, I will be more successful because I won't have the burden of love and kids, but if I do fine "the one", my life will be happy.
First of all, your divorce rates are too high, just google and you will see.
Second, just because you get married does not mean the people have to be soul mates.
Third, the goal of my life is to find love, and the only thing lacking in my life is things that love provides.
so your relying on love to help out portions of your life? what happens when it isnt there anymore? then what? ill be damned if i rely on another person for any miniscule amount of happiness or contentment in life.
if you insist on doing this, you owe it to yourself to become a happy, stable person first.
i read the divorce stat in a book written in 2002. ill google it up and post the result here.
