Associating people with those they're dating
Right now I'm in a weird situation. Someone who used to be my friend is now dating my current friend. The reason he is no longer my friend is because he's rediculously stupid and rambles on about purely dumb shit all the time. He insists that he's the deepest person ever, yet has the most cliche opinions I've ever heard. The other day we got into a discussion on anarchy. It went something like this:
Him: Anarchy would be better than the current system
Me: You're a dumbass. With no form of government, there would be no way to protect anyone from the rest of the world.
Him: Then they die.
Me: So you think that's right? That because I was born disabled, I should be left to die because I can't provide for myself?
Him: Well, other people should take care of you
Me: And what if that didn't happen?
Him: Survival of the fittest. Darwin.
Me: Right, but if everyone just keeps dying and living in fear constantly, how is that a good system?
Him: Don't you lock the door to your house? You're already living in fear.
Me: That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's a measure of degree. Right now I know that the government would attempt to do something about the guy breaking into my house and stealing my shit. Without government I wouldn't even have that much.
Him: Look, I didn't say it would work today. I just mean that anarchy would work in an ideal world. Humans just aren't evolved enough to handle anarchy yet.
Me: Then how is it superior if it doesn't work?
Him: Because! God, don't you listen????!!! The government which governs least governs best!!! You're such a fucking Freshman! Anarchy would work in an ideal society.
Me: Any system would work if everyone were always holding hands and dancing with lolipops. That's not the real world!
At that point, he gets pissed off and starts talking to some kid about his big bang - big crunch theory which revolves around half of infinity and other dumb shit like that. Really, it was stupid for me to type all that out just to get to this point: He's a jackass and he's dating my friend. Now I think less of my friend for dating him. She's a pretty cool chick, or so I've always thought, but she's so fucking lovestruck that she sides with him on all his dumb points that she would otherwise refute. Now I like her significantly less than I did before she started dating him. I almost don't even want to be around her. That's how much she sickens me. So, I ask you all, is this a normal or valid response to a friend dating a jackass? Am I a bitch here? Because I notice this shit happening all the time. And yet people still have friends. I'm confused

Re: Associating people with those they're dating
Don't worry, I totally understand. A friend of mind *cough*cough* just got in a relationship that I repeatedly told him not to get into; and I knew what the fuck I was talking about. I dated the girl for two months. I told him that it would not work and that she was just using him and a slew of other valid reasons not to go out with her. I knew that she would not respect him and was only going out with him due to lack of options, and he knew it too. But nooooo. He had to believe that everything had changed. That some shallow, self-centered cock tease actually cared for him.
The whole situation makes me sick. Fortunetly they've broken up (I hope), but when I found out that he was going to go out with her I suddenly realized how fucking clueless he really is. But hell, hopefully he learned something. Never settle for a bitch.

Meh, people become attracted to the most appalling people for incomprehensible reasons.
I'd sooner "judge" a person by their choice of friends, if that, but never by their choice of lovers.

Re: Associating people with those they're dating
I've been in the position of not really enjoying the company of my friend's lovers, but I never held it against my friends. That kinda thing is none of my business, and their taste in men/women isn't what I like them for in the first place.
