befriending some guy at wal-mart
i want to become friends with this guy at wal-mart. i am a male also. not gay or interested in anything sexual, just to be friends with him. which is a type of relationship.
i don't know much about him.. but he has checked my items out a couple times now (not a metaphor). and he seems cool.
one time i was buying paint brushes and he was like "nice to know there are still some artists around here." (it's a small town). then we talking about painting, and i found out he mostly draws. small talk stuff about art for a minute.
then another time, i was buying paint. i buy it by the gallon, and i had red, yellow, blue, black, white, and brown. he was like "judging by these colors it doesn't look like your just painting a wall.". and i was all like "big canvas" and stuff and it's cheaper.
so, he seems cool and i am picking up positive vibes from him. he seems to be anywhere from 18-25 years of age. i'm 17.
what's a good way that i befriend him without seeming as if i am gay or hitting on him?

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
Heh...
Its funny how modern society labels male-male bonds as homosexuality. People are fucking fearful of being friends with other males because they might be called gay.
---
In answer to your question,I dunno, how do you make friends with anyone? Common interests, conversation, hanging out? I dunno.
But yeah dude, I know what you mean. There are some people I know who I wanna be friends with because I get that "cool" vibe from them.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
If you're not gay then you're not gay.
But you sound kind of like a girl. Girls "make friends". Guys just hang out.
Just hang out and talk to him. Ask him if he feels like going out and getting some beer some time.
Or better yet, if you know any friends who are hanging out or having a party, just ask him if he wants to go.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
Come on use your senses, he works at Wal-Mart. Smoke him out. Always a good way to make friends.
Or just start conversations with him like you would with your friends. If there's some sourt of art somethingorother going on, aks him if he's heard about it or soemthing. It's kind of like getting to know a chick, except without hitting on him. Maybe you should coment on one of the hot female employees so he knows you're not gay. Just in case.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
No offence, but if you were talking about paint brushes and pretty litte colors, the chances are that the guy you want to befriend may be gay. If you are willing to take the chance though, just ask if he wants to join you AND your other friends in an event of some sort. Like a party or something.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
i would try to talk to him more but he's working and other people will soon be in line and stuff.
i don't really have any friends, or would know of a party that's going on so i can't invite him to one.
the asking him if he knows of some art thing that's going on would be good, but nothing like that happens here very often.
there's this girl in wal-mart who works there and is in my humanities class, and i'm pretty sure she hates me.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
How would you feel about him seeing your artwork?
If you would be okay with it, you might want to ask him to look at your work and get another opinion. Seeing as you seem to come from a place completely lacking in culture, you can explain that "no one else around here seems to even care about art, and when i ask people, they just say "yeah thats nice etc." and i really need the opinions of someone who can critique me right now."
That way, either he will decline nicely, and you didn't come on to him, he will go and check out your art, give you good advice, and you wont hang out again, or things could go as planned and you could be really cool when he is there and things would go well.
You might want to do this when there doesn't seem to be a line...you can just kind of wait around walmart stealthly (to avoid the stalkeresqueness) until he seems to have a short line.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
It is unfortunate how a straight guy who doesn't know another straight guy can't just ask him to hang out. I mean, it's ok to to invite another guy along when it's a group of people, it's how I'd do it, but it's not ok to just ask another dude if he wants to do something together.
"Hey, do you want to grab a drink/burger/whatever and talk about art?"
I couldn't pull that off without feeling really gay. But, that's me, and good luck to you.

Re: befriending some guy at wal-mart
What the fuck? Just because SARDONICPILLOW was at walmart and was buying paint and the guy happens to comment on the stuff he is buying doesnt mean hes gay, nor does it make SARDONICPILLOW gay by wanting to make a friend that he found has some similar interests as him. Living in a small town does have some complications with the whole gay/straight thing. Word gets around fast, and the people percieve the two same-sex people hanging out together a "gay couple." It just shows how homophobic (spelling?) and shallow people can be.
I think SARDONICPILLOW should go along with his idea and maybe talk to him more, get to know him better in a "friendly" way as most would want me to emphasis, and then ask him to go "hang out" somewhere. That's the best thing I can come up with. Or, if SARDONICPILLOW is willing enough, he could get a job at walmart and work some of the same days as the cashierboy and they can get to know eachother that way.
