Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
I woke up at 6 pm and realized I have a cold sore coming in on my upper lip. It just started coming in and I didn't have it earlier today.
The thing is, earlier today I was with my girlfriend and we performed oral sex on each other and kissed lots so I'm worried that I may have given her herpes type one on either her mouth or vagina.
I didn't have the cold sore earlier today, so maybe it just decided to come in because of dry lips, stress, or just because I haven't had one in a long time.
For those of you who get cold sores, you know they have a distinctive feeling when they are first coming in and are just little pink spots on your lip. Well, I just noticed that feeling when I woke up from my nap and not before when I was with my girlfriend (or even earlier today before seeing her). So I'm hoping this is just a random cold sore and I didn't give her herpes on the mouth or genitals.

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
I didnt read your post so I am just answering to your topic.
Also, I am hoping your a girl cause no one likes a homo.
Herpies can only be spread from genital to oral. For some reason they do not spread from oral, to genital. (Thank god)

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
No, I know that oral herpes can be transmitted to the genitals through oral sex, but only when there is an outbreak. I.E. If I have a cold sore and I eat out my girlfriend then I could give her herpes on her genitals. It's not a 100% sure thing but there is a chance. I'm probably worried over nothing because I did not notice the cold sore until 6 pm (and I notice them right away because I know exactly what an oncoming cold sore feels like).
Maybe you should read my post next time....

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
If there wasn't an open sore at the time, the possibility is highly unlikely, but it still could happen.
The best thing to do is to wait a week for things to settle, and then go get her tested. If she had kissed you before going down on you, you should get it checked out too.
That is all just in case. Is the 20$ (max...hell, some places will do ya for free) it will cost y'all really that big of a deal when considering the slight possibility of herpes? No, no it is not.

Thanks for the advice aloneandbroken. There was no sore at all at the time so I doubt she caught anything, but it would be better to get tested to be sure.

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
actually, it depends on the actual cause of the cold sores. if you have Oral Herpes, cause by the HSV-2(Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2) then yes, all sorts of nasty can happy. HSV-1(Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1) is the type that doesnt cause Genital Herpes, but also causes cold sores. You can pass the HSV-1 to another during an outbreak by kissing, or even as little as drinking out of their drink. This is the information I have received from asking my doctors about it (my mom has it, and it's very probable that i have it as well).

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
I have type 1, probably from being kissed by a relative when I was young (it can be passed easily to children with no immune response to the virus - even when there is no sore present). I know that type one *can* be passed to the genitals, but with much lesser frequency than type 2 and when you have type 1 on the genitals it is not as bad as type 2 and you may even be asymptomatic after the first outbreak.
I talked to a nurse today and she said the only part of the cold sore that contains live virus is the fluid inside the cold sore. Yesterday I didn't have a cold sore until 6 pm and even then it was just a pink spot - there was no fluid.
Now there is fluid inside the sore and I'm sure if I kissed anyone they would get the virus, too. Really, anything that touches the sore now could carry the virus including forks, napkins, cups, etc. So I'm being really careful about what I touch with my mouth. And I'm putting campho-phenique on the sore and washing my hands after every application.
I'm going to do what aloneandbroken said. I'll wait a week and see if anything develops, and then we can both get tested at the health center. Better safe than sorry.

Nope, that's bullshit. It spreads both ways with both types of the virus. And you think oral sex is a bad thing because you can catch herpes from doing it? I suppose next you say sexual intercourse should be banned and we should all only have sex to have children. Take your half-assesed opinions and bad grammar to another thread.

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
Sometimes I can feel a cold sore coming and I have slight bump. I tell my gf who is really resilient to this kind of thing but we make out anyway and she never gets a cold sore but I'm very cautious about going down on her when I have a slight bump anyway just in case. From what is sounds like you're safe but I'd get tested just to make sure anyway.
Hope I helped,
-TX297

Re: Oral Herpes Transmission to Genital
^Wait a minute. You're saying you've gone down on your girlfriend *while* you have a slight bump on your lips? And she hasn't developed anything on her genitals/legs/butt/etc.?
That really *does* make me feel a lot better. Whew!
