Default First Sexual Experience -> Depression

Well, for those of you who are not somewhat in tune with my story, here it is:

My girlfriend of three years broke up with me about a month ago. I feel like shit and havn't felt normal since then.

So today I had an appointment with an oncampus counselor and we reviewed my story (in much greater detail) and talked about my life and it was actually pretty nice because I didn't have to hold back my feelings and "be a man." I cried almost the whole hour as I spilled my guts about how I felt and how I was having suicidal thoughts. At the end she diagnosed me with Severe depression and, as a result of delving into my past, ADD.

However, something she said struck me as odd. She said that the relationship that people first have a sexual encounter in is often the most difficult break-up. I at first outrightly denied that, stating that our relationship was more than sex. But the more I thought about it the more it seemed logical.

So my question is; has anyone else experienced this sort of issue before? Was your break-up with your first sexual partner difficult too?

I think you need to kill yourself for the simple fact that you went to a shrink!

Lol j/k, but really does it matter? Does it matter what people on the internet think?

Ovbiously you have problems and you probably don't have ADD you were probably mis diagnosed by an ignorant doctor and a parent who wanted to feed you pills.

It's as you had sex she broke up with you and that's the end of the story.

Wow, never have I seen such complete ignorant disreguard for the extents and purposes of an internet forum.

"I think you need to kill yourself for the simple fact that you went to a shrink!"

Even if you are joking there enough people on this board who have gone to therapists to consider you an ignorant prick for even thinking that.

"does it matter? Does it matter what people on the internet think?"

Nope, but I came here to discuss a topic. No other topic has any more societal worth than mine, but you still don't flame them. What makes mine any more of a waste of space than the others?

"Ovbiously you have problems and you probably don't have ADD you were probably mis diagnosed by an ignorant doctor and a parent who wanted to feed you pills."

It may very well be that I don't have ADD, but:

A) Thats not the point.

B) I trust an "ignorant doctor" 100 times more than a flamer on totse.

Now... anyone want to give a real answer?

What the fuck is wrong with shrinks? It beats Xany/Smirnoff cocktails after depressing experiences.

First off: My sympathies; whether or not you were seeking it, you could use some.

I can identify with you somewhat because I lost mine of an even longer period (not that time period matters, or that I think my experience was somehow worse than yours because of it) recently, although it wasn't so straightforward; it was one of those break up-get together-break up things that seem so idiotic when observed from the outside (IE; it's happening to your friend) and yet so real and painful and somehow, at least at the time, rational, when it's experienced.

This is cold comfort at best, but be glad that you didn't have your heart played with for a long time before she made The Final Cut. (Assuming she didn't, for the most part, based solely on your post; correct me if I'm wrong)

Take care.

Thanks Infra, it does help to hear sypathies (but nobody else go too crzy with it, that would be too cuddly for my tastes).

You did fail to address the question, but I'll let you slide.

And as for the specifics... I just don't have the emotional strength right now to go through it, sorry.

The conselor was probably right, me and my girlfriend of 9 months just broke up, and it's been the hardest for me ever. We both lost our virginities together a few months ago.

Post sober for a change, buddy.

Terra, I've yet to be in your position, but I definately think it was a good move on your part to talk to somebody about it. It shows that you have self respect, awareness of a problem, and you don't want to just shove your baggage under the rug, so to speak.

Well anyway, I hope you get your shit streightened out. Oh, and if you've got the money, go see someone with the power of perscription. They can do good things.

The first time my first time and I broke up it was very difficult and painful, for about an hour, but after a few cigarrettes and hangin' out with a couple of buddies for a few hours I felt a lot better.

The second time we broke up was a month later and wasn't really too bad. Probably because of the circumstances, but either way. It really depends on the person.

I got another girlfriend right away (pretty much) while when my brother's first broke up with him (which was like 3-4 months ago) he completely changed. Hasn't been the same since.

It's good that you got it out. Supression can kill a man's spirit. Anyway, life will go on, probably faster than you think...

well, let's see here ... my "first time" (as in losing virginity just so no ones confused) was with a friend of mine, no relationship nothing, just felt like it basically. soon after was first time like, having i guess a relationship that was sexual. (previous ones never went more than 2nd base through the clothes except the one right before this which got to third but only a few times, as in not regularly) so this was a pretty new experience like, wow, going out with someone and having sex (course the reality of it all didn't actually hit me til like 2 months later).

this ended a few days ago and thinking on it, i'm not too depressed, i mean i was like immediately after and did scream into a pillow a few times in the next couple days and now i feel kinda ok. i understand the reasonings and whatnot behind it so i'm not spiraling out of control. believe me, i felt the spiraling out of control with the previous break up and that was NOT pretty. but that was an entirely different situation and a different person.

guess it all comes down to the person and the circumstances of the break up and how well you understand it.
