Default Periods -

Grr, this is unnerving...

Alright, so, one would assume my cycle would have evened out after almost 5 years, but it hasn't. Sometimes there are gaps as large as 3 months, the docter said that drug abuse, stress and not eating could cause this, but shouldn't to such an extent.

Now, I can live with that, the less pain the better.

The problem?

When I do get my period, it's like fucking hemorrhaging [sp?]. As in, super absorbant plus or whatever [the highest absorbancy] tampons, with super absorbant pads, and it'll soak through. In 4 hours, sometimes under.

This is a huge hassle when I'm asleep, but also a huge one during the day.

The bigger problem is, it really hurts to use tampons, they're uncomfortable as hell and leave me sore, espeicially at that damn size, hense I use smaller ones, but that requires changing every 2 hours.

I'm also anemic, so this makes me feel more unwell than usual.

Anyone want to explain to me why this happens, how I can aid it, and so forth? I really don't like gynocologists, they make me feel awkward, and in so much detail I don't want to discuss my body.

And I've tried the pill, it regulated the cycle a bit more, but didn't help the bleeding, and in general, I don't want to go back to that.

Thanks,

- Roxi

Er, It's been a long night/day, and I just realized I don't know if this should be in Reinvent or here. Because, it's... Not really reinventing yourself, and it is somewhat sexually concerned. [One cannot have sex when one has buckets of blood falling out of one's self]

Sorry if I placed it in the wrong place as well.

ok lady, here is some advice from an older woman. been there done that all, and then some. you need to go to a gynecologist, have a check-up done. you can bleed to death sillybutt. in the meantime, if you are anemic, eat lots of dark green veggies, go get a multi-vitamin with iron, take one a day. how old are you? talk to your mom, grandma, what were their cycles like? chances are, you will be exactly the same. its genetic. ive had my children, but im only 44, and i finally just had a complete hysterectomy because of all of the above problems. get your butt to a doctor please, things like this arent as embarrasing as if you end up in the hospital for not taking care of yourself.

I'm 16,

I can't ask my grandmother, because... Well, she's insane. And not in the good happy nut way.

My mum had a normal cycle actually, er, up to having ovary cancer.

See, my medical bill is sky high as it is [Well, not sky high, but too expencive for me anyway], and I just wanna know if there's anything I can do without hauling ass down to the gynos. It's not just that it's embarrassing, but I get alot of grief off them, and I don't want another visit from a social worker [which I can't afford to have, guh]. These people know not of the concept of privacy [Literally]

I can't help my anemia, oddly enough, the only thing that helps is caviar [my body has expencive taste I'm like me mum]

Lol, I gotto be cheap, I'm a jew. Nah, I'm skint.

See, my problem is; Tampon = sore. Blood = hard to wash out of clothes. Repeated changing = aggravating. Buckets of blood loss = Somewhat disturbing.

Ciiindy, help? Help me all knowing one.

I never thought of two pads... Interesting.

You can't bleed to death. The amount of bleeding though disturbing, isn't a direct problem to your health.

Depo shots stop of significantly diminish your period for 3 months (I believe). After that, most women experience the hemmorage style period, simply because the body has not released the built up menstural blood, and it sort of makes for 3 periods at once. I am not suggesting you get depo, but maybe someone on here who has utilized depo can tell you how they dealed with the mess.

Some women do bleed more than others. Birth Control should not effect that. Where you to talk with your gyno, there are probably hormones or some form of perscription which you can take which will reduce the production of menstrul fluids. As long as you are not planning on having a baby anytime soon, I am sure if this is available you can get it.

This is a totally out there possiblity, but you could talk to a doctor about getting ahold of the third in the RU (abortion pill) series. It is the drug which gets the females uterus to contract and relase the fetus and the surrounding contents. It is considered the equivilent of a period, and starts you off on the next month. If you could have your period each month, the flow would likely be a lot less. I dont know if that would have major reprocussions/is even possible, but i just thought i'd throw that kind of idea out there.

If wearing tampons is sore, either you are not wearing them correctly or there is something you need to see a gyno about. Just a question, but can you have sex without pain? If you can, you are probably putting them in at slightly the wrong angle. For me if the tampon is like 1 degree off, It's unbearable, so that could be a problem.

Two pads one on top of the other might cause some problems with side spillage, which is where the leakage is. If you are going to wear two, you might want to invest in two packs of supers, the big gal ones for the bottom and a regular size for the top. This way, when it leaks over the side of the regular, there is something else to protect your undies.

Your anemia could have an impact on the unregulated-ness of your periods. Many components that build up menstural blood will be shared with those which build up regular blood, so your body will try to hold on to the components for your bloodstream rather than for your period.

If no one can give you some really good advice, i would say just go to the gyno. There are many school/pphood type clinics which offer gynocologists for a lower cost. If you call one of them, they may be able to tell you if they could do it without contacting your insurance/ telling your family or a social worker.

Oh sure, I'll air all my menstrual problems for the whole board to know. Heh, I admire your candor, PP.

a&b as usual had some great info, so I'll concur with all that.

Once I went a whole year without having periods, and when they returned it was like the floodgates opening! I couldn't leave the house for fear of an "episode" (figure it out).

It seems like a lot of blood, but keep in mind it's a lot of other material with blood mixed in. But take your vitamin supplements anyways.

You're still within "normal" parameters, methinks. But it is indeed troublesome and inconvenient to bleed so damn much. When it's really heavy I tend to park myself on the toilet with some magazines. Sometimes I'm there for more than an hour. You can't do this when you sleep, obviously. And you're right; you can go broke using tampons and pads in such quantities. Use an old towel and just sort of roll it up and put in place. It's not attractive, and not terribly comfortable at first, but it's more comfortable than worrying about a deluge of blood. Have a bucket of cold water nearby to throw the towel in, and change once during the night if necessary. By morning you should be able to rinse the towel out easily and throw in the wash. Labor intensive, I know, but I don't pretend to have easy solutions.

If you want to try wearing two pads for daytime when you have to be outside, position the first one at the normal angle (if you're using "longs" position slightly higher than normal), and position the other perpendicular to the first, underneath, so the two make an upside-down "T". Be sure to wear snug knickers, preferably the "granny" type. Make adjustments necessary to ensure coverage. This way you'll be covered whether you're standing or sitting.

Hopefully you're only put out for a few days. For what it's worth I feel your pain!

Muchos gracias;

A&B, I'll eventually get to the gynos and ask them about all that, thanks -

As for tampons, sex pretty much hurts as well, I have no idea why considering, I can't be said to be inexperienced. The wrong angle is horrible indeed, there is a difference between the feeling in the two, I mean a sort of bowlegged-walking sort of sore.

As for the rest: Thanks, I'll discuss it with them as soon as I can drag myself there, or my fiance decides I'm bleeding to death so he must fix the problem in some way [Yet, when I tell him if he wants to fix the problem, to go buy some more tampons, he just looks at me in this sort of way going 'awww damn...' and eventually goes looking like a 3 year old being forced to eat brocelli]

Cindy:

Haha, I can't discuss it with people I know, so I'll discuss it on a place where the majority of people are... Male. But that wasn't the issue, this just seemed like a good place to post.

A year? Ouch, just... Ouch. Now, when you mentioned the 'other material', I suddenly remembered, one day I was thinking... Menstrual blood isn't like regular blood, I had my period normally for a few months an age ago. But this, no blood clots, it's not dark, hense I mentioned hemorrhaging because it looks like pure blood.

Which is a bit odd.

Thanks for the towel idea as well; And to everyone who mentioned two pads. Never would have come to me. Damn those people are making a fortune off periods.

5 - 7 days of practically living in the shower because I have OCD in regards to showering and this ruins it, here I come!

Help much appretiated.

Im sad, it was my idea and cindy gets all the credit.

Now i have to go work on a plan to take over the S&A forum. I feel underrated. I took a lot of time to think up good topics, I know they were all really good. But no every little ass hole noob flamed them, who the fuck do they think they are? I deserve a little credit, i contrubute my fair share, and its only recently that i have been kinda outa wack.

The reason is its spring break and in the past ummm, 6 days i have gotten 10 hrs of sleep. sorry if i flame people a little harshly. Im sleep deprived and havent had a Cigarette in oh 3 days. GAH. I appologize.

.

I had used depo before I decieded to have kids and I never had a problem with a big period after 3 months.... you get the shot every 3 months and you just never really have a period. You might have little ones with light spoting... but nothing like a regular period.

Call your local health department and talk to them. They can help you get on the birthcontrol method of your choice (Id pic depo) and they charge on a sliding fee.. so if your a student and have no money it would be a very small amount if any! They also have someone there who does paps, if there is still a need to be seen by someone. If the problem is more serious than that.. they could direct you to a womans clinic who usually have programs to help pay for costly medical procedures.

Good Luck!
