Default Emotions

Hey All. This seemed like the best place to post. Move as neccessary.

Anyways, my question is.. Why is it that.. say.. when you hold in emotions, like the need to cry, it hurts, or at the very least makes you feel weird. I mean.. is it a chemical release? And if so, what? Some links would be nice, cause google was being a bitch today and i couldn't find anything besides stupid song lyrics.

Anyways today I had a conflict with my dad (moved out and in with my mom) and we had a long talk over lunch, and basically it's night time now, and I had my mom rant about how her stupid life was all bad too, and so now I basically have a head ache from all those feelings from chemicals or whatever it is. Anyways your input is appreciated. Thanks again.

Thats a good question, but all i know is that it IS extremely important to get your feelings out, other wise you'll get emotionally challenged

Too late for that. I'm pretty much numb. And I show all of the signs of Schizoid Personality Disorder. But I have a girlfriend too. It's weird. I feel nothing for anyone or anything, except for her. I guess it's a selective thing. Anyways back to the chemical thing. Yes I know teenagers are complicated, but I'm 16, and past most of that bullshit. It's probably the same for all ages. But it just hurts/makes me feel weird and or queasy feeling when I hold it in. It's really hard to explain. Anyways back to the emotionally challeneged thing. I know that you die quicker from holding in all emotions.. but numbness comes from more than that. Anyway I'm gonna do something while I wait for a reply to help.

I'm sick of hearing teenagers talk about absolute love and how their completely devoted to each other and all that crap. I'm not flaming you, but it's a learning process. I'm sure i was like that too. Just don't do anthing rash and keep zipped up and you'll be fine.

I thought this was an interesting paper on the subject: http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/biology/b103/f03/web3/n1kaim.html

An excerpt:

quote:If the chemicals associated with stress did not discharge at all, they would build up to toxic levels that could weaken the body's immune system and other biological processes. But here, as in other areas, the body has its own mechanisms of coping. We secrete stress chemicals when we sweat and when we cry. Clearly, then, it is physically very healthy to cry, regardless of whether or not it feels awkward or embarrassing socially. The reason people will frequently report feeling better after a well-placed cry is doubtless connected to the discharge of stress-related proteins.

What are you talking about? I never said anything about love. I don't beleive in love. Not at this age anyways. It's a stupid idea. I don't know what love is. Not enough relationship experience.. and my post was about what makes you feel weird when you feel the need to cry.. or you hold in other upsetting emotions.

Ahh. this helped. Thank you cindy. This has been most helpful. It's an overflow in chemicals, since the body doesn't have any way to expell the large amount, you feel pain. Thanks

My advice to you, (I'm 17 and I feel for you buddy) find a good friend or relative, someone you can trust (not your parents) and let it all out and dont hold back, all your fears, hopes and emotions. Psychiatrists are really good for this, or you could tell a complete stranger from the interent, hey like me!

Well thank you Criscocy. But I don't think a relative would be good since, well.. You'd understand if you read the symptoms of a Schizoid.

http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/p21-pe02.html

As to a psychiatrist.. I read about psychology alot, and I love that kind of stuff, so.. me, knowing what they do, I get the feel for all their tricks and stuff, so I just can't unload. but yeah, You.. sure. I could if I needed to. But this isn't the issue, since i've never needed to talk about my feelings. I just deal with them my way, (make them dissapear) and I'm fine.

It sounds like you got things under control, is there any problem you are trying to deal with?

One more peice of advice, i wouldnt be too quick to call it Schizoid. Many of those symptoms are just part of depression, ive got it and i have a buncha those symptoms. If you start telling yourself that you might have Schizoid then you'll probably start acting like you have it, dont be to quick to judge.

Hm. Well it was a self analysis when I first looked into it. And I know how depression feels. This has been with me for years, and continues to be. I know the state of mind, and how it can create that illusion, but I fit many of those the first time i read that page, so I don't see how that could happen in my case. But I could be wrong. It was, after all a self assessment.
