Antibiotic & the patch
So my g/f comes to me after 3rd period, slightly bothered by what she heard in gym 2 periods ago, aparantly she heard a story about a girl who got pregnant while on the patch (birth control) and taking an antibiotic...
I told her not to worry (Not because I'm a moron, because I'm normally right about things and I think everything will turn out O.K., whatever O.K. means I just don't know)
Anywho, she gets home and makes a call to the pharmacist, who didn't bother to tell her that the penecillin she is on (antibiotic) compleatly makes her patch ineffective. She started taking the drug last thursday, we had sex twice (no condom) on friday, and haven't done anything to date.
All I can say is that I feel utterly & compleatly betrayed by science.= & medicine. The gyno told my girlfriend "You have better chances of getting struck by lightning then getting pregnant on the patch while having un-protected sex" and nobody ever bothered to tell us about that little medical drug conflict flaw.
I'm not really looking for pity, though I wouldn't mind some, but this is really just a warning.
I'll keep this updated through our little journey.
She's a senior, I'm a junior, I say this not lightly, but we are perfect for eachother. Not the typical highschool perfect yelling at eachother every 2 seconds then saying "oh I love you forget it, YOU DUMB GODDAMN SLUT!!" no, not that type... We've been dating for 9 months, I've been mad at her once or twice, and her I about three or four times. we are really just incredible...
She talks about how if she is pregnant things will never be the same between us, but all I can do is shift that to be all her option, because I see no way in hell how it can change things, stressful or not. I love this girl and quite possibly would lie myself down to die if she asked me nicely.
Almost did once... We were walking home from school, and (later this day she ended up in the hospital, I went with her) and had the worst abdominal pains on earth. I thought she was angry with me for waning to walk, I felt like stepping in front of a fast car because I thought it might make her happier. Anything to make her happy is worth it, it might sound derranged, I know. But when the only thing in life that keeps you here is a woman, what would life be without her?
I became seriously depressed in 6th-9th grades, it went by un-noticed by parents, school people, brother, friends. Really makes you feel worth a shit, but anyway I realized at the end of it, and this is what brought me out of it, that I must life my life entirely for making someone else happy. Since then I've been on a search to make someone happy, and i've succeeded.
Till I fucked her on her antibiotic that is. Lol.. Crudest way possible of saying it I guess, but this is free flow as far as I'm concerned.
If she is pregnant, she is getting an abortion, she has already decided. Makes me happy. We live in new york, provided we don't need parental assistance we could get it done hopefully without anyone noticing all too much.
Flame if you wish, if you do you are just no better than the one that fucks his kin. I dunno, I just don't care if you do.
Once again I'll keep this updated.
Thanks for reading.

Re: Antibiotic & the patch
you know what? dont worry about it yet...the chance of getting pregnant when not using ANYTHING is like 6%. plus it depends on the time of month, blah blah blah, just dont worry. get her a pregnancy test, and if she gets pregnant, sue the fuck out of her doctor (or at least get them to pay for the abortion + plus maybe a little for the effort).
also, thanks for the heads-up. good luck

Re: Antibiotic & the patch
Yes, thank you for the head's up on the antibiotics messing with the patch. Try not to worry about it too much until it's obvious she is pregnant (missed period, morning sickness and the such), and good luck on all this.

While I agree that they shouldn't worry yet, do you have a reference for this 6% figure? The FDA statistics say otherwise: http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/1997/conceptbl.html
85%!! Holy shit, that's a major discrepancy.
Planned parenthood uses the same statistic: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/bc/bcfacts1.html
I've been hearing more and more about increased failure rates with birth control methods that are supposed to be the most reliable, namely the hormone-based ones such as the pill, patch and even depo-provera shots. It seems there might be interactions with other drugs and basic foods that the "experts" are overlooking or failing to communicate properly.

Re: Antibiotic & the patch
Hey, good luck with your girlfriend, get her to take a pregnancy test. About that living your life for some one else shit. i think its bullshit, i used to think like you and if you live it for some one you love then i can understand but in the end you only live once huh? so when your 75 and nearly dead you'll look back and think 'shit man what the fuck have i done with my life', but thanks for the patch info.

Re: Antibiotic & the patch
We did have sex at one of the times where she was less fertile according to her schedule, which is nice...
Anyway, its day 2... She uhh, She's calmed down a bit, enough to speak with me :P She wasn't mad at me or anything, but she was just so frightened thismorning that convrosation about anything was simply unaccectable. However I just got back from her house, and we were acting like we always did. Infact, this was one of my most fun days there ever.
She told me she had more talks with her mom, her mom has little to no trust in me... Which is so wrong, I am all about trust. My girlfriend trusts me with everything, and I trust her with everything. Her mom just thinks that is really dumb at this age and that trying to trust anyone is idiotic.
Her mom said "no problem, I'll get you an abortion, dad'll never have to know anything... I just hope you don't get an STD" Little does the mom know that we are both clean, as clean as the day we were born anyway. Her mom is more furious over the fact that condomless sex is open to me giving her an STD then a little child. Which I suppose is good.
Her dad will kill me though if he ever finds out. Holy crap, this man is scary. He may fart, laugh, and make crude jokes all the time, but he still scares me sometimes. He definately is irrational sometimes.... Whew. Anyway I don't intend to update every day, just days where there are serious changes... For fun, no longer for informative purposes, but for my own reasons.
I thank those who have responded for having an appropriate tone and being supportive, as opposed to being douchebags and laughing at me.

As for this, uhm. I understand what you mean and everything, but I've weighed out the pro's and con's to life, I realize this was done at a tender age, and I don't see all too much great things about life other than love. So basically I would rather live no life at all than a life without love.
"Who so ever does not die for love is dead meat"
Beats me who said it...

Re: Antibiotic & the patch
Everything is going fairly ok, I guess you could say.
I do have a question today, somehow my g/f came down with the knowledge that "Pregnant people have no discharge" and she checked later and she had a normal amount of discharge. True or not?
