It depends on the remaining feelings. If you still love/care for them, it's hard. You just have to remember that they're not going to be there like they were when you were going out.

No it is all bad, and if not bad it is awkward, and if it is not awkward it will eb a source of angst for future significant others.

Take my advice and let yourself drift from them naturally. I am a reaqlly nice guy and I've tryed to be friends with almost all the girls I've dated, it ussually is for the worse.

*shrug* it depends. One of my exes is my best friend now- the others I don't talk to at all.

Don't even think about getting back together, though. It doesn't work, and your efforts will just make things worse.

I'm having this debate with myself right now.

My girlfriend of 3 years broke up with me two weeks ago and it was completely out of nowhere and now I'm left with feelings of abandonement and anger. No matter how hard I try I just can't get past those feelings (at this point). I still love her dearly and I just want to have her back, but my love for her is different from the one she has for me.

I want to be her friend because things might work out, and we could possibly get back together. But everytime I talk to her I get angry and cry. It does me a great disservice to have communication with her, and last night I realized that it was really the end of everything, at least for now.

Maybe someday I'll fully heal, and I won't have these feelings, but for right now I can't sit here and listen to her tell me about the nights out shes having. It really hurts when she tells me she has done things but she doesn't want to tell me because it might hurt me. So I've basically decided to limit my conversations with her until after her birthday (April 2nd).

So the short answer, no. Especially if you've dated for a long time

It is possible. Though no matter how hard you try it'll still be really weird. The only thing you really want if you really love the person is for them to be happy. Even if it costs you every tear you have thats all you want for them.

I finally got over one girl and we broke up last November. It took so long, but once she got a new boyfriend I knew where I stood, and every effort I made for us to get back together was only a futile attempt. If I knew it was going to turn out that way I don't think I would have gone out with her, but her cousin instead.

It's really if you can handle it. If you had a strong friendship before you hooked up, then you could still have that strong friendship. Though the friendship is really what got you two together in the first place. Just can you handle it?

Damn guys I seriously mean it that trying to get back together with an ex is unhealthy business. Even longing for them, hoping and dreaming is unhealthy. It is creepy for them, it strengthens their reasons for leaving you as they now see you as inferior. It holds you back from being the best you can be.

I'm an extremely nice guy and I haven't had many messy breakups in my life, I have almost always tried to keep a friendship with my ex gf's and maybe they would have worked if we stayed in the same town but the best recoomendation is to cut all ties and start thinking, start living your life freely without hangups and needs.

Terra Sanctus I kinda know how you feel but you need to move on. You are really holding yourself back and it is a vicious cycle. You realize the finality yet you still hope. No fucking good man! You probably missed at least one amazing person while you were moping about your ex.

She really isn't as amazing as you think she is right now. Stop all communication with her, calling her makes you feel bad and her feel good. Don't even wait until after your birthday, just stop and don't call her ever again. She doesn't care and is going out and doing stupid things and telling you just for kicks.

I broke up with a serious girlfriend a month ago, we were together for 2 years and were planning on getting married. She had hang ups and issues but I still loved her. After she dumped me she partied and drank and tried to forget everything, I was bitter and hopeful for two weeks. Then I decided to start living my life and doing the things I wanted to do but couldn't when we were together. I was going to be single for a good long time like 6-12 months.

My plans were foiled and I have now met the most amazing woman and am dating her. I have never in my life been as happy as I am now. I got over my ex and have moved on.

Living in longing over someone that is confused or messed in the head is a waste of your precious time and life. Be not careless with the hearts of others nor let others be careless with yours.
