I guess that's how you gotta approach women sometimes. Just because she seems uninterested or intimidating, doesn't mean she really is. You gotta be bold and just do what you gotta do.

However, don't be too weird, obviously. I use this word alot when it comes to women, but casually say something to her.

I will give you some good and proven advice on this topic. The basis is just being a sociable person.

Begin by talking to random people you meet. For example, you are sitting on the bus bored. You see a man reading a book you've read, and you start up a conversation about it. Don't just focus on girls; talk to boys, men, old people, young people, anyone.

This breaks down the natural shyness people get when they are around people they don't know. You will notice the difference as you find yourself having friendly conversations with complete strangers.

Then, all you have to do is use this sociability to pick up girls (or get their numbers).

So, don't just immediately try picking up random girls. Develop those social skills first and it will all seem natural.

Another approach, or perhaps an additional approach, is to focus specifically on girls. It will be a bit more unnerving at first because your intention is still to try to hit it off with a random girl.

Start by talking to a completely random girl who goes to your school. Just exchange names...talk about some current event at your school, and say see ya later. Do this often until you have many connections.

Then work your way up to talking to girls from nearby schools. You still have common ground and close age.

Evntually, talking to a random girl who you have no previous knowledge about will be easy as hell.

BTW. Its sometimes helpful to have a friend with you. Though its certainly not necessary and they can sometimes make it like a competition (for some guys, thats good)
