Uhh...you answered your own question, mostly. It's just a term, meaning to take someone's virginity (usually a female's, but the term's broadened to just mean any virgin's). It probably also has to do with the whole vagina/flower correlation of old.

The pain factor depends on the girl and on you. If you are big it will hurt more. If she has been fingered a lot, it will hurt less. et cetera et cetera.

No, a girl can not lose her virginity to a dildo. That is not sexual intercourse. Or, I have given my virginity to a tampon. Just because you stick it up her vagina doesnt mean she is not a virgin.

You seem to be getting confused "deflowering" with the "popping of the cherry". The latter can really happen with anything but the former applies only to the girl actually losing her virginity.
