This hasn't been a problem recently, but a conversation I had today caused me to reminisce about a situation where I was informed after hanging out with friends in some unremembered public place for a couple of hours that this girl had been checking me out for a good portion of our visit. I never knew it. I'm not even sure I saw her, although it seems logical that my eyes would have had to pass her way at least once.

So, that's it. Start talking. Please. Don't make the flirty eyes. Don't smile at me from afar. None of that helps if I never see it. It's entirely possible I looked right past you, so even if I didn't react, go ahead and approach me anyway. If I was avoiding eye contact on purpose, you'll find out quickly enough.

(Disclaimer: I speak only for myself in this, but I bet a lot of guys would appreciate a similar level of thoughtfulness.)

What happened to girls not thinking of you as a sexual being? Did that pass? Are you a ladies' man now?

I think you're right spiffy. Why does it always have to be the guys who initiate? Why cant the girl start it up once? How come everything differing the sexes has basically blurred but this stays?

Now Spiffy, this is WAY easier said than done! I've never been comfortable making the first move. Sending a breezy e-mail is about as close as I can manage.

Dude, what did I say? I'm specifically talking about the circumstance where I don't even notice the girl's presence. How can I chat someone up if I don't know she's there?

I know. I am not saying you're at fault for not getting her. It is just hopeless to ask girls to make a move. They don't have to cause we do it all the time. The good news is we get to go after the ones we want and they have to just sit on their asses hoping the one they want comes to them. If she did not catch your eye, then don't worry about it.
