You might want some verificaton that the baby is yours. There's too much at stake to "take her word for it."

By informing you, what was she expecting? Did she ask for anything like financial support? Just be wary, since desperate women do irrational things.

i already talked to her about a maternity test to make sure i'm the father but she called the doc and he won't do it till the baby's born. too risky he says. anyway, her b/f is black, i'm white, so when d-day strikes everybody's gonna know in a hurry who the father is. regardless, i'd still shell out the $350 for a dna test. and yes, i will strive to keep my assholiness in check . 420.

She's bullshiting you about not being able to do a paternity test. There are three ways of obtaining fetal DNA.

The most popular was is amniocenticis. Generaly this can't be done until (I think) 4-5 months into the pregnancy. They use a needle to remove a sample of amniotic fluid (the fluid that cusions the fetus. DNA in the fluid is used in the test.

The second way is to use fetal blood. This less popular due to the fact that a needle has to be inserted into the fetus itself. This can be done with a probe, or a needle can go through the uterine wall into the placenta to obtain the sample. This latter option is only possible with the placenta in certian positions.

The last option is a new and difficult, but scientificly valid procedure. A larger than average sample of blood is taken from the mother. DNA carrying cells are seperated from other blood compounds, such as red blood cells and plasma. In this sample is a minute, almost undetectable sample of fetal DNA. Only the most sensitive of equipment can detect it.

(This paragraph contains technical, nonvital information. Those who wish to can skip it.) After the plasma, red blood cells, and platelets are seperated with a centrifuge, the DNA undergoes PCR, polymerese chain reaction. This procedure uses a broth of neucleotides (ATCG) and an enzyme catylist to make copies of the DNA strands, and lots of them. These full lenght strands of DNA are then cut into a multitude of snippets using a restriction enzyme. Restriction enzymes cut a DNA strand when it encounters a specific pattern of neucleotides. Because the patterns pseudorandom, it cuts the strand into random sized pieces, but each strand is cut into the same pieces. These pieces are sorted by their electronegitivity using gel electropheresis. In this procedure the snippets are placed at one end of a long tray of conductive gel. An electric current is run through the gel over a period of time. The higher the electrical charge each snippet has, the further it will move. Identical snippets move at the same rate, seperating the DNA into visible dark colored bands. Each unique person's DNA seperates into different bands. The darkness of the bands is a function of the concentration of snippets with that electronegitivity. Each snippet should have a unique electronegitivity, barring chance. Even then, the sample is large enough that a few crossovers is irrelevent. In a sample obtained from a pregnant mother, any of the fetus' DNA would seperate out the same way as the mother's. However, the DNA obtained from the mother will sift out into the same bands as the mother in concentrations too small to see. The father's DNA (which should be about 40% unique) should seperate into seperate, very faint bands. These bands will be match bands on a test done on the fetus' father. Anyone other than the father (excluding idetnical twins and clones) will not have matching bands. The restriction enzyme, eletropheretic gel, and the current used are all standards providing identical results from the same DNA on any testing machine.

Technical data aside, she's either seeing a quack, or is lying about not being able to be tested. I say she's lying. Either way, haul her into the doctor's office yourself.

Take yourself and the girl you possibly knocked up to Maury or Jenny jones or one of them. They'll pay the fees, hopefully, because you are an "innocent teenager who made the mistake of having sexual intercourse without protection". Good luck buddy, you're going to need it.
