ok... my gf cuts her self...she also is belimic...she says she hears voices...she also is easily influenced by other people...she blames the cutting on her father because he was a drug addict and used to do it...she says shes belimic because shes depressed because her mom dont let her see me...and she doesnt know why she hears voices...her family says shes bi polar and they have her tested out at mental hospitals...the results arent back yet...her whole family is bothering her about her problems and say she is mentally ill and is an idiot for going out with me...they say im a bad influence becuase im not italian and because im from brooklyn ny...can any1 help me help her fix these problems? some information would help on what causes these problems..thank you all help is very appreciated

I think if they already had her tested for mental illnesses the only thing you could really do is try to comfort her and make her feel good about herself so she doesnt seriously hurt herself. And if shes you gf I'm sure you either love her or have strong feelings for her, consider tryin to admit her into the e-ward at the local hospital, just so she doesnt hurt herself to the point of death. Talk to her parents. Try and make them get to know you and see through their pre-concieved notions of what a non-Italian from New York. But most importantly, make them realize that you only want whats best for her, and that you feel that her being cut off from contact with you is not whats best for her.

already tried that...her mom called the cops on me when i went to talk to her i was trying to be nice but she caught me and my gf on the lawn on new years making out sooo...she hates me even more now...but the bigger problem is how to help out my girl with her mental issues...could you give me some advice on that?

You have to find the right stimulus to wake up her mind so she sees change is possible. For some people it's gentle support; others may need someone in their face. Most need both, used at the right times.

The problem you may run into is that nothing's going to help if she's not made of stern enough stuff to deal with her problems, however severe they may be. In the end, everyone is responsible for themselves. To reference a recent conversation I had on a similar subject, help her to the point where if she still fails to get better, you can step away saying you did everything you could. That's all you can do.

The liklihood of her being Bi-Polar is not very high Bi-Polar is a terrible disorder and only controllable by lots of medication.

To me it sounds like she has Borderline Personality Disorder meaning basically her personality is fucked and over the years has been shaped or moulded wrong. The good thing is unlike Bi-Polar it isnt a chemical inbalance in our brain more just a behavioral thing not only that we usually grow out of it. I myself am 21 and still have it big time but im guessing ill grow out of it soon.

Personality disorder is hard to diagnose but u can do it yourself as there is no medication to fix it unless in extreme circumstances (like myself which they had me on Lithium)in your search engine type BPD (borderline Personality disorder quiz or BPD information.) It will definatley brnig something up see the symptoms and see what u think. If u think she has it there are 2 options for treatment.

Psyco-Therapy (basically brain wash) which will re train the brain and its train of thought,which i was offered but said no. This bascically retrains or restuctures our brain to think more normal. For example if she cunts herself that is because its her brains natural habit i spose u could say to match her reaction of cutting herself whenever she cant deal with something properlly. SELF HARM IS NOT ADDICTIVE AND EASILY BEATEN NO ONE WANTS TO HURT THEMSELVES THEY JUST THINK ITS ALL THEY CAN DO FOR RELIF.

Your other choice is concelling which will just make her feel not so alone and she has the sanctuary of having someone she will respect to talk to (not saying she dont respect u). Otherwise like i say in extreme circumstance they will treat the symptoms not the disorder so they would more than likely put her on some SSRI medication(anti-depressants) and some mood stabalisers to flaten her out and not react to such extreme. BPD is a terible disorder and alot people suffer from it undiagnosed.
