I promised this guy I'd give him a call back today, but I got his machine. So, when I left him a message I called him by the wrong name.

This ensued by a silence of shock, then a

"I'm sorry, I meant, Matt."

Another silence, this time of embarrassment. Then,

"Damn."

Another silence, this of 'did I say that outloud? I did say that outloud!', then

"Shit."

Another short silence, this time of acceptance of my humiliation, then

"Well, I found my cell phone, so you can call me on my cell. O, yea, by the way, this is Lo *heavy sigh*, talk to you later."

Granted, it's not like I called out the wrong name during sex or anything, but that's pretty bad.

If a girl did that on your machine, would you call her back?

I don't think he's dating me for my intelligence anyways, considering the first time we met I said

"Hey, want to go make out?" Within the first five minutes and then wrote my number on his arm.

I can't believe I'm actually hoping he's dating me for my rack versus my mind... Wierd.

I call my best friends by the wrong name sometimes. I'm just bad with names. But I don't do answering machines at all, so I can't really relate to your situation. If there's ever a time when I have to leave a message, it will be something like "Hey, this is Stephanie calling for Josh, call me back." But I tend even to fuck that up and sound nervous, so I really avoid those damn things.

It really does depend on the sort of relationship you two have.

If its completely plutonic (as its sounds) it shouldnt be a problem just dont expect him to remember your birthday.

If he's gotten attached and gone all "lovey dovey" on you as some guys do once their some sexual contact theres a chance he'll make a big deal out of it.

No, you didn't fuck up, you messed up his name, don't worry about it (unless this guy is like me in that he over thinks EVERYTHING and will look into it way too much, if that is the case, just tell him to "shut up and kiss me [as in, you, not me, Guswut, but me, as in you...]".).

personally i would get a kick out of it if a girl did that on my voice mail on purpose. id get a kick out of it if she didnt do it on purpose either, but more laughing at her than with her. then again my voice mail is short and sweet: "this is justin, leave a message". so if you fucked up my name within like 20 seconds of hearing me tell you my name... yea...
